[Sticky] Write-In and Event Thread

Here is the information for our two kick-off parties:

Party one will be Saturday, October 25 in Old Town. We'll be meeting in the grassy area by the Robinson Rose House from 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm. Bring yourselves, your lunch, and friends and family.

Party Two will be from 11:30 pm on October 31 to 1:30 am on November 1. This party will also serve as a write-in, so bring your laptops, or pen and paper (or whatever else you use to write). We'll be meeting at Studio Diner, located 4701 Ruffin Rd., San Diego, 92123. Feel free to dress up in costume. Friends and family are also welcome, but since this party is also a write-in, I do ask that they have something to do, since watching us write may not be the most interesting thing.

I'm so excited! I know I'll be at the write-in on the 31st, but I'll have to check my calendar about the 25th.

I'm pretty familiar with Old Town, but I don't know the names of all the locations. Is the Robertson Rose house next door to the Jolly Boy restaurant and the green space where the big flag pole is located (next to the Plaza del Posada)?

It is. I knew there were a couple of other notable...landmarks, I guess, but couldn't remember them at the time.

A question about the information event on Sunday. Last year I attended a write-in at the Ink Spot. I remember having difficulty figuring out how to get in. I found the correct door, but it was a matter of button-pressing and whatnot that I cannot remember. What sort of feats must information-event-goers do to make it inside the Ink Spot lair?

I think the code is 003 if I remember correctly or call the name that says Judy Reeves or San Diego Writers Ink, then we can buzz you in. Then go up the stairs, and off the the right down a few doors and straight in, you will find us.

I won't be able to attend the party at Old Town, but I'll be there for the midnight kickoff! I'm so glad Nov. 1 is a Saturday this year.

I no longer live in San Diego. I moved up north to Davis in August to start my Ph.D. work at UC Davis.

RSVPing "YES!!!" for Old Town, and "still unsure" for the midnight kickoff. Have to wait until the new schedule comes out at work, although if it follows the same pattern it has in the past few weeks, I should hopefully be at the midnight one as well. I'll come back and post about the midnight one when I know for sure.

The midnight kickoff was a nightmare for me last year. I got locked out of my house, and it actually happened to be just a little chilly last year, especially since I'm only a couple minutes from the ocean... Had to wait around for what was around 3 hours, starting sometime around 1:30 or 2 a.m., for someone to come unlock my door. I was shivering and miserable... But it made for a great story to post on the boards! Was funny once it was all solved.

I won't be able to attend the Old Town soire, but I will DEFINITELY be there for the write-in at midnight. One quick question: I know that Studio Diner is a restaurant; should we bring our own caffeine drip or buy coffee at the location?

Please, buy your drinks and food at the diner. I don't know how the coffee is, but the chocolate shakes there are divine!

I'm going to say maybe for Old Town. Go figure I've been a San Diego resident and I have no idea how to navigate around that place. Anyone with an address to Mapquest would be much appreciated.
31st @ StudioDiner I will have to say I will definately be there, but I dont know if I'll stay for the full thing seeing as how it's the day after my b-day and my son and i are going to disneyland the next morning. but i'll tough it out if i can.

THANK YOU to all who attended the informational meeting at the Ink Spot Sunday. It was great to meet so many new NaNoWrimers! Your energy gets me pumped for the month ahead.

I just want to make public that San Diego Writers, Ink will be sponsoring Write-ins EVERY SUNDAY in NOVEMBER from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm. We are a nonprofit supporting writers and literature in San Diego, and we have a space downtown in the Art Center Lofts in Studio 210. The address is 710 13th Street, between F and G streets. On Sundays, street parking is ample, easy and free. Shelli and I look forward to providing a comfy space for writers using either a laptop or pen and pencil. We'll have bitch, moan and high-fiving social time from the top of every hour til quarter after, then 45 minutes of communal writing silence. Participants can stay for all or part of the four hour time. We're a block away from Peets coffee, four blocks from Starbucks, and near the trolley for you public transit fans.

I really look forward to the great, productive atmosphere we'll create. The muse lives here in San Diego!

PS - Remember, If you can't find a write-in at a day/time/location that suits you, consider hosting one yourself. Just let WingedCreature (Nicole) know the details so she can add it to the calendar. Like everything in life, you get out of NaNoWriMo what you put into it.

I’ll be hosting write-ins for people who like to get started early on the weekends. Look for me Saturday mornings at Monica’s from 07:30 to 09:30 (usually longer). I try to grab spots on the back patio so check there first.

I hope you'll join me. If you don’t make it to this one, please get out to one of the other write-ins. It really can make a difference.

Does that include the Saturday following the kick-off? I plan on continuing to write long after we're kicked out of our spot at 1am. It would be nice to follow up at 7:30 the same morning.

It does include 11/1, Bettina. Unlike you heartier sorts, I can't stay up after midnight. I would really enjoy seeing you there and hearing how the Grandmother's are getting along. .

Looks like Monica's will be our hangout this year! ;-) I wasn't the one asking about Saturday 1/1 though. I'll be sacked out hard until afternoon that day. But I'm sure you'll see me on some other Saturday mornings, since I'm essentially a morning person.

If public transportation is an option for anyone, I would suggest doing that. But that's just my opinion- for those who are going, get there in whatever way is easiest for you.

And for the midnight party, feel free to dress up in costume, and you can leave before 1:30 am if you have to.

Old Town yes, Studio maybe...

Anyone interested in an El Cajon/La Mesa area write-in? Let me know. Weekends and evenings are negotiable, but I'm free weekdays from 10am-2pm.

I'm interested in write-ins for El Cajon/La Mesa area, since I live next to SDSU, but I work everyday. Weekends would be the best for me...Saturdays, since I will be trying to make it the Ink Spot on Sundays.
