This is my second nano and I"m using it to finish the second half of my book that I started last year during my first nano. I don't think it will happen but there's a possibility I might finish the book before I hit 50,000 words. I'm not sure how many people are starting in the middle of a story versus writing a whole new one. I dunno if my feelings are justified but in terms of trying to get this book proofed, is there a problem if technically I don't make it to this 50,000 check mark but I still finish the book and it ends up being about 95,000 words counting last years count too? I'm probably not making much sense. Brain is a little mushy right now.

If you want to "win" NaNoWriMo and get a shiny certificate to print out, you must write and validate 50k words this month. That's all.

If you finish your story at 40k and want to stop because you reached your personal goal of finishing the novel, Yay for you! This whole program is just a way to motivate people to get their butt in the chair and write. How you do that is your business.

If you finish your story early, AND want a shiny nano winners certificate, just start another story and keep writing until you hit 50k. The word counting robot doesn't read our work and no one will ever know.

Now, lets get back to writing, I'm a bit behind! :-)

K I actually did some thumbing around for the reasoning behind my obscure question. The special offer that Createspace is doing for are for those that win Nano this year. The only way you can win is by hitting 50k for that offer. My concern was finishing my 2nd half of my story under 50k. I'm not really anticipating that happening but It's a possibility. The last thing I want to do is short change myself. Does this make sense?
