We have twice-a-month write-ins throughout the year. Come on out for some pre-writing and early camaraderie! Here's our October line-up:

Sunday, Oct. 5, 6 pm
The Writers Place, 3607 Pennsylvania, Kansas City, MO
The Writers Place
This is a new location for us. Parking is on the street (though there is a small parking area in back, handicapped accessible).
Bring your own drink or food. (There is a full kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave, and small coffee pot.) There are nearby coffee shops: just several blocks south on Pennsylvania is http://www.westportcoffeehouse.com ; a little farther away is our old standby http://www.broadwaycafeandroastery.com/.

Sunday, Oct. 19, 6 pm
Roasterie, 6223 Brookside Blvd., Kansas City, MO
Roasterie Cafe
Park in the lot behind or on the street in front.

I'll be the one with the little table tent that says NaNoWriMo--and the one in the black hat.

silverdolphin1489 asked about closing time at The Writers Place.

When we asked, the volunteer didn't think there was a closing time per
se. We figure on going to 10pm. (I'm still waiting on details about
how closing up works.)

Some other facts:
-The smaller library/conference room where I think we'll be writing has
few outlets that I saw, but I'll bring my power strip.
-That room also has typewriters (for those without shiny new laptops).
Wouldn't that be old-fashioned, to be writing to the click-clack
sounds?
-There is wi-fi.
-inkwet thinks that the big downstairs room has a better writing
atmosphere; it'll depend on how much we can and/or want to spread out
(depending on whether another group is there, etc.). We'd been
discussing having a talking table at write-ins, but a talking room? hmm

So I'm a bit younger - only a sophomore in high school. But I don't have school on Monday, so might I come by? :3

Absolutely. We've had teens at write-ins. If parents or other support people want to stay and do their own thing, they are welcome. I think there's something about that in the mass e-mail I'm getting ready to send out.

I can't come tonight, but I will be there the 19th. How long do you usually run?

I write romance, hope no one has a problem with that.

Are there plugs at Roasterie or are we running on battery?

And you need my email address?

The Roasterie is open until 10, and someone always stays that late. There are outlets, yes. I'll be bringing along a power strip in case we need extra sockets.

And no, we welcome writers in any genre. NaNoWriMo sure brings a lot of different kinds of writers together, because we still have a lot of the same dilemmas and excitements, no matter what our genre.

As for your e-mail address, I won't ask for that unless you think you want to be on the year-round e-mail list. I try to also post those twice-a-month write-ins here, but I slack a lot. If you want to be on that list, just send me a private message/NaNoMail.

Sorry for the short notice, everyone, but I thought I'd let you know about the monthly write-in held in Lee's Summit. We meet the first Tuesday of every month from 6 p.m. to close (9 p.m. currently, I believe) at Doozens Coffee in Lee's Summit.

This, of course, means we are meeting from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. this Tuesday, Oct. 7, and anyone is welcome to join us.

Doozens is located at 813 Lemans Lane at the corner of Ward Road and 150 Highway. Come on out if you're in the area!

Anything near Independence and during maybe Sunday Afternoon? I'd love to get together with other folks. What exactly happens at these in October? I'm assuming in November it's brief periods of terrified writing punctuate by moments of breathing and trying to relax. :)

Say, Kansas Citian NaNoWriMo mates, would it be of any interest to hold a couple of our write-ins on Saturdays instead of Sundays? I can't do this stuff on Sunday, due to family and church commitments. I live in Eastern Jackson County area, near I-70, so anyplace along the I-70 or 435 corridor would work fine. I'm thinking maybe near Independence or Blue Springs? Just a thought .... Auntie Mame

Zera, the year-round write-ins are more relaxed--we chat a bit, we write a while, we check on each others' projects. October write-ins start to take on a sense of urgency, since several of us are still trying to figure out what we're writing.
All, however, are fun, and the group energy is good.

Hey,Zera and Auntie Mame,
yeah, as I said over in the November write-in thread
http://www.nanowrimo.org/eng/node/3012865
in the second message down, it would be great if you start up other write-ins.

Just set the time and place. If it's in October post it here; if in November, over there.

if anyone has a desire to start a write-in over in the Overland Park area, please contact me. I can't take on that responsibility myself for several reasons, but I would try to support such a group and show up if possible. Afternoons would work for me also.
