Hi, everyone! My "real" name is Rachael (haha), and this will be my fourth year attempting to write a novel in thirty days. This is my second year as an ML (I'm sure you all remember our awesome former ML, Cylithria (a.k.a. eensybeensyspider), who has ABSCONDED to Tennessee and left us all behind, not that I'm bitter or anything!), but this is
my first year doing it alone.

(Speaking of doing this alone, if any of you feels that you have the time and the inclination to co-ML with me, PM me and I can let you know how to get in touch with Lindsey Grant, the ML coordinator.)

I keep myself rather overly busy being a web designer, a homeschooling mom of a 9, 7, and 3 year old, a pregnant woman who always needs more brownies (due in January!), and also sometimes I try and sleep a little. You know, here and there. Right now we are moving from Mount Morris to Grand Blanc, and I am currently sitting at my desk in the middle of several piles of boxes. The kids are eating in one of their bedrooms because the kitchen table is covered in other miscellaneous
boxes and small collections of things that I've not yet figured out how to organize.

The good news for you is this - my house is big enough (and equipped with wireless internets AND a coffeepot or two) that I'll be able to host a few write-ins there, and I'll be closer to several good areas for other meetups and write-ins. So, hooray all around!

I have won Nano only one year so far, and that was two years ago. I am really hoping to win this year, but I still have NO idea what I am writing about. I'm hoping that after the dust settles from the move, my brain will let me in on what it's been thinking up.

Below are the responses posted before the disk failure and data backups:

I'm Amanda, and this is my first year participating in NaNoWriMo. I go
to Saginaw Valley State University where I'm a second year student
majoring in Accounting and I live in Lennon. Aside from doing homework,
I usually use my free time to work on any of the numerous stories I am
either in the middle of or are in need of a complete overhaul, and
reading.

comment 'RE: Introductions!' by Hamelin

Hallo! I just got the email.

I'm Jeff, a 5th(!) year English Major down at Oakland University (that
commute is a pain I tell ya) and I am way excited about this year. No
solid ideas yet, but I'm going to try to attend many get-togethers this
year, unlike last year where I went to none at all.

I'm thinking... science fiction. Or perhaps something wonderfully
mundane with a lot of life injected into it.

comment 'RE: Introductions!' by gbjazzman

oh hai!

The name's Matt, and I've done Nano for two years and have won two
years. Try to go three for three. I'm moving to Lansing, well, tomorrow
so I'm closer to work, because gas is expensive. I will try to make it
to the occastional Red Hot write in, schedule permitting

I haven't settled on what I'm going to do, but it will involve a gun
fight, somehow, because I enjoy writing those.

comment 'RE: Introductions!' by LisaQuing

I'm LisaQuing (Lisa IRL) and I won Nano last year, which was my first
year participating. I did edit and polish that novel and am in the
process of finding an agent for it. It was a romance entitled
"Forget-Me-Not".

I am currently editing a short story I am writing in hopes of getting
it published as well. More details if that pans out.

My four kids (ages 6, 8, 11, and 13) are home-educated and I've been
married to my sweetie for 20 years. We live in southern Lapeer County,
so it's a bit far from some of you.

I am recruiting as many as I can to participate in NaNo this year! I
don't have anything planned yet for my NaNoNovel for 2008, but I am
sure something will come forth.

Hello, everyone!

Please just call me Ket. I am not actually from the Flint area--I am from Port Huron. However, I head out to Flint a lot!

Right now, all I do is work (hotel desk clerk/valet). Work and write (but not often enough). I've done NaNo for six years now, but only won the last two. Here's hoping for the hat trick!

I'm Connie, but you can call me Princess... yeah it didn't work with my boyfriend either. I just moved out to Grand Blanc. This will be my 5th year participating and 2nd year winning. I came close last year, but I WILL do it again.

This year I'm working on an interracial teen romance.

Wow! This is so cool. I never heard of NaNoWriMo until a couple of days ago and I have no idea what I will be writing about yet. I was looking at my vision board the other day and I realized I hadn't written my book yet... Several years ago I set a goal to have it done by the time I turn 40. Which is December 29. No pressure. (!!!)

I am actually in Burton, my kids go to Grand Blanc and I am a realtor at ChangingStreets.com. I don't think I will be able to get together much because it is hard for me to get away but i would love to be part of the flint "team" to help us all stay motivated. I just signed up to follow on Twitter. I am "CinWrites" over there, too. Everyone should get an account, it would be a great way to give little shout outs and offer encouragement and motivation. Whaddya'all think?

Good to meet you all!
Good luck to us!

Hello Ket, Princess, and CinWrites! I am SO happy that you're all along for the ride this year - especially a newbie, how awesome is that! :)

CinWrites, not all of us hail from Flint proper, so anywhere in the Flint-ish area (including Grand Blanc, Burton, Flint Township, Mount Morris, etc.) are welcome to participate. I even got an old friend of mine from Oklahoma to join our group, although obviously he can't make it to write-ins. :)

I've just moved to Grand Blanc this past weekend (and into this one, as it's apparently a LARGE job to move a family of five and all their stuff) from Mount Morris, and WOW am I excited to start Nano in a house that's bigger and has room for all my Wrimos!

In short, hooray for all of us! Keep stopping by and saying hello, please! :D

EDITED for spelling. Whoops. :p

Hi, I'm Sammi. I'm a senior in high school this year (so excited to finally be almost done!) and this is my second year doiing NaNo. Luckily, most of my college applications are due November 1st, so I won't have to worry about them. I live in Hartland, which is actually kind of far from Flint, now that I think about it, but it's the closest of the Michigan regions.

I have no idea what I'm going to write about! I had a plot for a fantasy novel all set up and then BAM! a plot bunny sneaks up on me. Now I'm stuck between historical fiction (which has never ever appealed to me before, and which I'm a little worried about because it's going to be a very dark novel if I write it), and fantasy (which is what I always write, but it will be a much more light-hearted... ish... story). Not even NaNo yet and I'm already stressing about it!

GreenMan has joined -- again. Maybe this year I will not only make more of the write-ins and so on, but will also write. For all that statistical stuff (and some you can get from my author profile -- and don't forget to sign me up as a writing buddy): Straight white male, 46, 5'7", brown hair, blue eyes, glasses required for reading and distance (they aren't bifocals!), left handed, been writing since I was in the eighth grade, drive a 1999 S10 pickup (gold -- I haven't seen anyone with the same color so if you see one around, it's probably me). Currently doing a lot of reading on fairies and Wicca and Medieval stuff. Do not own a TV. Play several instruments (flute, pennywhistle, bodhran, guitar) and recently began piano lessons. Anything else you want to know? Ask -- I can really bore the pants off of anyone that I can corner and start talking to. Your best bet is to make sure you have an escape route before we start on a conversation.

Yeah, I do write. As I mention in my profile, I am currently publishing two faerie novels for kids. So I'll be pushing those whenever I can. They were started when a friend asked me to write a story about her daughter's quest to get to fairyland. A short story expanded to a novel and then I had to write a second one. Currently working on the third on. I think they are a different kind of story -- no antagonist! no crisis! -- but are fun and interesting. Enough of that.

With fingers poised above the keyboard, I anxiously await the stroke of midnight October 31 (and I'll have a good sugar and chocolate buzz going from stealing candy from the kids who have the audacity to stand outside my door and yell things at me). Hope to meet everyone and share some writing time, tips, caffeine, etc.

Hey everyone, your favorite magician here to join in once more on all the nanowrimo goodness!
I'm going to try and be at the write-ins as much as possible, but work (3 jobs) and school takes up quite a big chunk of my time. Regardless, I'm confident that I will be successful in my endeavor. Good luck , everyone!

Hi everyone, my real name is Myron, and I've been writing NaNo's for three years. I've won two out of three (not last year aagh!), and did EdMo last March. It's a 3-part series, but I can't "live" in that world this year.

So it's off to create a new universe for devastation and destruction. I can't wait to "off" a character who sorely needs it! :D
Speaking of characters, I need to develop a few of those...

I'll try to see you all at the kick-off and as many write in's as possible!

Welcome back Rachael!

Hello, my name is Michael and this is the first time I have done Nano. Heard about it from Pens on Fire for October and somehow I am all geeked up about doing this. I have attempted writing a novel before but seem to get sidetracked by my daydreams.

I work in a group home and actually have some novels that could be written from that point of view.

Hey all!

My name is Greg, and this is also my first year attempting the nano. I stumbled across the sight when researching tips on writing stories a few months back. Which is good...because it let me procrastinate and put off writing until November! Not exactly sure what the story is going to be about just yet, but that's the fun of writing on the fly.

Whoa nelly, it's already October?

I'm Emily, Red Hot NaNoTeen. This'll be my third year trying for the elusive 50 thou. Unfortunately it's college application season, so I make no promises, but I miss the write-ins and I miss the fun. So bring it on, Flint Red Hots!

Hello, my name is Shell. 32 years old, married, no children. I live about 40 minutes east of Flint.

I read about the Nanowrimo challenge on the Writer's Digest forums and decided to check it out, and then decided to sign up and try it. So this will be my first year with Nanowrimo, plus my first attempt at a long novel.

I've been writing since kindergarten (we found my journals from kindergarten and I was writing poems and short stories even back then...my spelling has improved since then! I promise!) and have mostly written poetry, short stories. I am currently working on a novella based on a dream I had when I was 11. I had the dream almost every single night for six months, so it must have been in my brain for a reason. Although certain things have been changed from the original dream. What an 11-year old dreams up and what a 32 year old writes, is bound to be different.

I am going to do my best for this challenge, I'm already figuring out character names and an outline for how I want it to flow. Don't worry, I haven't started actual writing of the novel though. The only thing that may get in the way is my husband and I are possibly buying a new house and I may end up having to spend part of November with cleaning the new house (dust/etc), packing, moving, unpacking, then a deep clean on our current home so it's ready to be put up for sale. I looked at the house on Monday and my husband is going tomorrow to look at it. If he likes it as well, we're going to make an offer.

I better sign off for now and get back to work on my novella. It's sitting in the background, glaring at me for ignoring it too long today.

Shell

oh, btw.. what is an ML or co-ML?

Hi, I'm Sarah - 22, married, Grand Blanc. This is my first time with NaNo. I've had a few different stories brewing in my head since various points in high school, and they've been tormenting me ever since. :) So, I've decided to just give in and write at least one of them.

I don't have any kids, but I do have a dog and a cat. (Close enough at this point!) I'm also a photographer (http://www.sarahski.com). I'm excited that there are so many folks in and near Grand Blanc! When I signed up, I was a bit afraid it would be me and one other person. :)

As I avoided writing this morning -- it is only 8 am -- I checked out your web site. Great shots. Some very creative wedding photos -- they really show the mood (fun) of the weddings.

(Okay, yeah I'm interested in photography, too. I finally splurged this summer and bought a Nikon D60 and a couple of lenses. Having some great fun. And digital is great -- you can take whatever you want and not worry about wasting film. So cool. And playing with the photos, switching them to B/W and cropping, etc. is a blast. Okay, I'll stop. Maybe at a Write In we can talk photography.)

Hey, I'm Matt. I'm 24, live in Grand Blanc, and I'm married to Sarah (LeianaJade, not any other Sarah). I've known about NaNo for about three years now, but never had the fortitude to take the plunge... Sarah made me do it this time, so thank her.

I work in Southfield and tend to use that to say I'm too busy/tired to write more than a little bit each day (http://www.stanmanx.com). I want NaNo to push me to work harder at writing.

I tend toward short stories, but I've been kicking around some novel-length ideas for a few years now (I get distracted easily) and I'd like to dust one of them off and see if I can finish it (or restart, if necessary...which is likely). I guess I still have a couple days to figure that out.

I'm looking forward to meeting people at the writeins! I'll come to as many as I can.

Hi everyone! I'm Angie, and this is my first NaNo. I just started my first novel in February, am halfway through it and bored out of my mind with it, so I'm doing NaNo to write another idea that's been singing at me since summer. Hopefully I can learn the habit of just writing and not worrying and apply it to my current project afterwards.

I live just inside the city of Flint with my husband and dog (no kids), and am turning 30 next week. Seemed like a great time to write a novel :)

Looking forward to meeting everyone, I'll make as many of the weekend writeins as I can! In the meantime, email is giddedeux@gmail.com (gmail IM is great too), talk to you soon!

Thanks for the compliments, Greenman. I'm more or less just starting out...I decided after my wedding that I wanted to take *good* pictures for people and not charge them an arm and a leg for it. I've got some of my best portraits to put up on my site, I've just been severely slacking on that. (But having to clear out one computer and switch to a new one validates my slacking a little, I think.)

I'm planning on at *least* making the Sunday Panera write-ins.

Hi! My name is Krista. I work at the University of Michigan-Flint, so I'm often in the Flint area even though I don't live here.

I've joined Nano three times now and have yet to win. It seems like something major always happens in November and derails my writing schedule. Hopefully this year will prove to be the year I manage to stay on task.

Of course, I'm writing blind. No idea what kind of story I'm going to tackle yet, but I'm leaning toward Fantasy. Something darker than normal, just to see if I can. Dark isn't normally my style.

I look forward to Nano-ing with all of you!

I guess I'll introduce myself, too. I'm Erica, better known as Anubis (yes, as in the Egyptian god). I got started late on the NaNoWriMo thing, since I remembered about it on the 2nd, and was running around trying to come up with ideas until VERY late on the 7th. Anyway, this is my first year. I'm hoping to make the word count by the deadline. It seems like a pretty big goal for a first timer. Anyway, good luck to everyone out there. Hopefully I'll be able to make a couple of those write-ins.
