Someone had to start it, and I'm all for getting things done early!
My name's Rin "Kat" Mitroi, I'm a freshman at Tulane, and this will be my third year having a go at National Novel Writing Month. I originally hail from Oxford, Ohio, home of Miami University, where I spent late nights with very supoortive, fellow NaNoers in years past.
I'm an English Writing and Digital Media Production major, and I intend to write screenplays for a living. I tried Script Frenzy this past year, but April was just not a good month for writing... -_-'
I'm ridiculously excited for NaNo this year, and I look forward to meeting new writers.

I'm new to the area, and I live a little ways outside the city. This is my third year doing NaNo, and I'm really looking forward to it again this year. I don't know any good places to go and write (besides home, of course). Are there any?

Howdy from Louisiana - Elsewhere Region.
Just wanted to pop in and welcome you folks to NaNoWriMo this year!!
For places to write, one idea is to check out the CC's Coffee Houses in New Orleans and Northshore. I hang out at them a lot and they've got free internet and good tables. A number of our folks in the Baton Rouge area do their regular weekly write-ins at the CC's there too.
If you'd like to do some word wars during the month, just holler to those of us in the Louisiana Elsewhere region. We'll play with anyone who wants to join in!
We do a number of virtual write-ins because we're scattered all over the place -- which is fun. Everybody just types at home in their pajamas and sends in their word counts at the end of the hour. We add it up and see which region gets bragging rights for the next week.
Oh yeah -- bragging rights means the other region has to tag all their posts for the next week with a line stating that they were in a word war and lost to the other region...
Wicked, aren't we???
Happy NaNoing!!

Hey, I'm Katrina (I know: worst name ever to have in New Orleans), and I'm also a freshman at Tulane. Right now I'm looking at English Writing and History for my majors. (I'd like to write novels for a living, which is about all one can do with those degrees. *grin*) I'm originally from Ellensburg, Washington (that'd be Washington State), and I was president of the EHS Creative Writing Club, which basically means that I bullied the entire club into doing NaNo last year. This'll be my sixth year doing NaNo.
And there should be at least one more Tulane WriMo that I know of. :)

Hey! My name is Emily and I'm a freshman at Tulane too! I'm from Chicago and I've done nano there for two years, but I am so excited for my first year writing in New Orleans. I am planning on majoring in English and Women's Studies here, but we'll see what happens after four years.
Yay! Katrina's here already! Thanks for telling me about the thread :)
I can't wait to meet other Tulane and New Orleans writers. This is so exciting!!!!

Hey! My name's Sarah and I'm a junior at Tulane. I'm an English major, possibly minoring in Psychology. I'm from Phoenix, Arizona and I still have no idea what I want to do after I graduate. Currently, I'm just focusing on actually finishing school.
This is my sixth year doing NaNoWriMo. I've never won, but I determined to keep trying until I do. It's just so much fun!
I vaguely recall people doing write-ins at the library (Howard-Tilton) last year, but I never went to any because I'm a ridiculously shy shut-in. I am also not incredibly fond of our library (not that there's anything wrong with it, because there's not. It's just me being ridiculous.) If we want to do write-ins, may I suggest the PJ's at Willow? My freshman roommate loved studying there and I've recently discovered that it really is a great study place. Plus, it has coffee! (I suspect this will be a big draw come November, when it actually starts getting chilly/cold.)
I look forward to meeting everybody! <3

Hello All -
I'm a Seattle WriMo, but I grew up in New Orleans. This is my second year, and I plan on spending a week down south away from work and other stuff to get some serious wordage done. I'm glad someone mentioned the PJ's on Willow - I grew up just a few blocks away and that particular coffee shop has a special spot in my heart. Be it there or anywhere else in the Uptown/Mid City area, I'm down for write-ins between 11/07 and 11/11. I'm used to writing sprints, loads of coffee (and I miss the chicory), and good fun. I'll keep an eye on this region's forums for any meeting announcements.
Good luck everyone!

Welcome everyone! I'm so glad there are so many Tulane students in on this. ^_^ I like the idea of PJ's at Willow write-ins, 'cause it's closer (just across the street from Butler! :D)
Who's up for having a pre-NaNo meet 'n' greet sorta thing closer to the end of this month? Or, we could have several to make sure that everyone can come to at least one. ^_^

PJ's at Willow is close to me too (I'm in Aron.)
I'm down for a meet'n'greet before November. Although October 24-26 is also the weekend of Voodoofest - I don't know if any of the rest of you are planning to go to that, but I'm probably not going to be around much that Sunday.

hmmm I wonder if there are any high school NaNoWrimers in New Orleans that I can get in touch with? I did NaNoWriMo last year but I failed. (I think I blame that on the fact that I knew no one personally doing it.) I would love to meet some people though even if it's just through this forum. let me know....

Hi! I'm Shelly. I'm not at Tulane anymore, but I finished my Master's there last spring and still live on Broadway so I could definitely meet up at the Willow PJ's sometime.
I'm originally from Natchez, Ms but I came to New Orleans for grad school and I love it down here!
This is my first year doing NANOWRIMO, although I heard about it last year.

I'm Elizabeth. or Lizzy. or Liz. Whatever you fancy. I'm a wee freshman from New York City. I'm looking to be an English Writing major and Film Studies minor. I've never done this nanowrimo thing before. And I wasn't going to do start, but I figured hey, why not? What else am I gonna do? School work? pssshh...
I guess there's some sort of meeting in the works. That sounds cool. Wait... I'm not sure if I can make it if it's Thursday... Let me check.

Only 9 days left until NaNo!! And just 1 day until our first meeting :) I hope everyone's getting excited! I'll be at the PJ's at 6:30 wearing the 2008 NaNoWriMo t-shirt. If anyone else has a NaNo t-shirt, I highly suggest you wear it so that it'll be easier to find each other. Can't wait to meet you all!

Rin/Kat, if you think I'm the Leah you met at Bruff, then I think it's safe to assume that you are the Rin I met at Bruff. Which means we have indeed already met. >.>;
It's good to talk to you again...? XD
One day until the meeting! W00t! I hope it's okay if I drag a friend along. He doesn't go to Tulane and is not a writer -_- but he is coming to see me and Voodoo this weekend, so I don't think I could leave him behind. ^_^;
