(That forum title needs to be said with increasing enthusiasm, like an announcer going "Sunday, Sunday, SUNDAY! Monster Nitro Funny Cars Crushing Monster Trucks!".)

The SacNano crowd has traditionally held its kick off event at Java California in Dixon, because it's inconvenient and far away but it was open 24 hours.

Now, sadly, Java California is no more. Starbucks killed it, especially the drive-through Starbucks located right around the corner. So our annual search for a venue for our kickoff event is even more urgent than ever!

Ideally, the venue will:

  1. Be open 24 hours, or at least until some ungodly hour of the morning
  2. Have a large meeting room or something that we can take over
  3. Be tolerant of geeks like us
  4. Have free wireless access, because many of us will find all kinds of ways to procrastinate online
  5. And be able to provide us with freshly sliced platymanagoat fillets.

The last is optional.

I welcome your suggestions. At the moment I, myself, have none. Since we're a pretty large region, the more central the location the better. As always, I personally prefer Sacramento or Davis.

Denny's maybe? 24-hours, always breakfast(!), and they've been rolling out wifi at different locations. If we settled on some options in Sac / Davis, I could call them to see if that location offers wifi.

In the Sac general area, there's one in West Sac, near Arden and Howe, and near Sac State (just off of Howe).

Argh! Wish I could go to some of the write-ins - unfortunately, the only ones I'll be able to go to are those in Folsom (maaaaybe Sac) because I'm still stuck relying on parents for rides (why, oh why didn't I get my permit back in April? *sobs*). Unless there's anyone from the EDH/Folsom region offering rides...?

There is, alas, no Denny's in Davis; there is an IHOP, but they are not open 24 hours - they close at something like 2-3 in the morning before reopening for breakfast. There is no place in Davis that's open 24-7, to my knowledge.

There are 3 Denny's in Woodland, all near the 5 or 113, which can't be any worse than driving to Dixon ...

There is a new 24-hour IHOP on Del Paso Rd off of I-5 in North Natomas. I know the writing group has met there before in the big semi-private room in the back. I don't know what the outlet situation is. Maybe someone who knows can weigh in? If not, I can drive down there and check it out. I live in North Natomas.

What about Mel's? They have some that are open 24 hours.

Interesting... They've been generous hosts to our writing group's monthly three-to-four-hour brunches. Are they open all night? Do they have electrical outlets?

And the smaller of their two dining areas might be just the right size for 12-20 writers. I'll check that out when I'm there this weekend.

I'm from that area, and I wish I could offer you a ride, but I'm also relying on my parents... So I don't know if I've got my own ride xD

Oh, the 49ers Truckstop would be PERFECT! We have history there, most of us have survived the food at one point or another, the coffee is in the expected range for suckage, they don't HATE writers like the bookstores seem to, and....and....what about electrical outlets? I'm not recalling lots of obvious access to outlets. Would they let us bring a massive strip for everyone to plug into? A generator? Fuel cell technology?!

I love this idea. I vote for it.

Unfortunately, I didn't see any outlets when I was there yesterday. And the server said that they are usually very busy that time of night.

I don't have anything helpful to add, except that I might attend. Also, are we as SacNano writers going to be meeting for write-ins during the month?

But of course. Follow along in the "Sacramento write-ins" thread.
