Hello all, I'm your ML ^^ I'm going to do my best to keep you all motivated throughout November!

The option which seems to work best is word wars, which is where we all get together online (in an AIM chat, or on MSN or something similar) at an agreed time and then we all hush up and set the timer for 1/2 an hour (or whatever we like) and we just WRITE. It keeps us on task and helps those skilled in procrastinating ;D

Usually it's like a friendly competition, the idea is to write AS MUCH AS WE CAN in that half hour and it usually gives people a good 1,000 words in that iddy-biddy half hour, which really gets us close to the daily quota!

Would anyone be interested? :)

I am a keen word warrior, they made the bulk of my novel last year and were great competitive fun. My MSN is immortal_leonharte@hotmail.com, and be sure to note you're from NaNo if you add.

Ohhh, we have an ML now? Yay! (It's a shame we're spread out all over the place, but we shall have fun anyway!)

I'm definitely open for wars. It's handy to have people in the same time zone, too. XD

Oh, and if there's anything I can do to help out with anything--organisational or otherwise--let me know. :-) I'm MORE than willing.

I'll second the yay for the new ML!!

And just think, ML from Darwin means a terribly long way from everyone "elsewhere in Australia", showing no favouritism whatsoever.

I'd be interested in trying word wars (I need all the help I can get after two years of abject failure), but I wonder if the time zone difference over this side might be an issue.

MSN is p0werb0ys@hotmail.com

The time zones shouldn't be a problem. We'll organise HEAPS of word wars because not everyone will be available for every single one, so we'll spread them around so everyone, at some time, will be able to participate :)

I might have to join in this year. You know.. so I actually finish my novel rather than getting stuck mid November

I am interested in word wars! I'm in the Alice, so probably the ONLY one here. And truly in the middle of nowhere. Hopefully this will help me with moving past the mid Nov writer's block I suffered last time.

I'm pretty much online after 6pm until somewhere between 11pm and 2am most nights. Otherwise I'm at work. Or sleeping. Or harrassing random people. Or playing video games! Or ...yes.

I should cut back on the coffee. Maybe.

Hmmm. I think I should do this. Probably help with that bad case of procrastination. I'm usually on the computer around five or six in the afternoon, NSW time. But I'm flexable.

I've just done my word-count plan. Most days are going to be unreliable for me as far as being able to say when I am around. After 8pm (WA time) on those nights that I can write and I'm at work during days.

I say we use instant messaging and this thread to announce and create word wars. As well as anything more efficiently planned of course.

Times, huh? A detailed list for you! (NSW time)

I'm still at school so obviously from about 8am-4pm is out for me on weekdays. Tuesday afternoons/evenings I can't really do, and I have some stuff on Wednesday nights (which means I won't be online from 5:30-7:30ish). Weekends I'm generally pretty free. But here's a list of other miscellaneous stuff I have on during the month:
- probably attending a concert on the 7th at 6pm for a few hours.
- my school certificate is from the 10th, 11th and 12th, so I'll probably be up for procrastination then, unless I'm feeling particularly studious.
- family stuff on the 16th will probably take up most of the day.
- choir concert rehearsal on the afternoon of the 30th. (Oh man, I just realised how much that sucks...)

But that's about it. I'll also probably be up and online earlier in the mornings before school (6:30-8ish), except less so on Tuesdays and Fridays since I have stuff on. *nods*

Wednesdays and Saturdays until five thirty for me, and also on the fourth and the eighteenth of November (both of them Tuesdays). I work eight hours every Wednesday and alternating Tuesdays, and seven hours on Saturdays. I'll be around in the evenings on those days, though. Otherwise, it's all good for me.

Worst singular day: Tuesday 18th of November, at least until midday (I have an exam 9.15-11.25 am).

Apart from that, my work schedule is on a week to week basis, so I've no idea. Latest I'm at work ever is 5.30pm Mon-Wed, Fri-Sun, or 9pm Thurs.

This is all NSW time, btw.

If we have multiples, I'm sure I can make at least one.

Is anyone interested in buddying up (is buddying a word?) for the whole of November for an ongoing war?

I would like someone who's happy to go head-to-head on a word-count widget (from http://www.nanowrimo.org/eng/widgets) and whose goals match with mine. That is: aiming strongly for 50,000, but not kidding themselves that they're going to do 100k+.

eg:

The first year I attempted NaNoWriMo, I had my brother start with me. For the first few days (neither of us lasted much more than that), neither of us wanted to call it a night when we were still 1000 words behind. This is what I want to replicate.

Count me in (pun intended). Sounds like just the thing I need to keep me motivated. I hate losing!

Yes, very funny :-)

I knew I could count on you. I've added the widget to my home page already. I really hope they start showing names once November comes around. They are really uninteresting right now.

Hey guys!

The best place to meet up is in the chat room:

http://www.nanowrimo.org/eng/node/3052030

We should all decide on another time to meet up there... or get everyone to get in the habit of signing into the chat every night while we're writing and hopefully we'll get more and more people meeting there every night :)
