Hey guys ~ Just wondering how many of us are students in Leeds city centre itself?
Also, just throwing it out there, but mebbe some of us leeds uni/leeds met lot could get together for coffee/ a beer sometime? If we're living near/on campus we've all gotta be pretty damn close to each other and it would be a shame to waste the chance for little get togethers.

If y'are at uni or college in Leeds, what're ya studying? How's it all going? Anybody else worried that uni work and nano at the same time is just gonna dissolve your brain matter into a goey pink puddle that looks suspiciusly like a cross between Chinese take away sweet and sour sauce and that strawberry and banana smoothy you were over charged for earlier today? Ahem.

Anyone got experience of full time studying and nano attempts?

Any other randomness is welcome in this thread, oh yes.

I've failed the last two NaNos because I was at Leeds Uni, mainly because I was doing a science degree and they liked putting all the deadlines in November, so it depends how much work you get and how evenly spread through the semester it is. This year I hope to do better because I'm not a student any more :P though I still hang out in the Lounge at the union because I'm unemployed :(.

Uh oh, that doesn't bode well for this years Nano and I. Already I have a lot of november deadlines but I'm trying not to worry. I figure if I sacrifice sleeping time and eat at the computer I'll be grand, lol.

Unemployment is not fun at all either ~ I'm only looking for part time work at the moment and not had any luck. All the best with that hun =)

What's the plans for your Nano this year?

Thanks Rogue, the job search isn't going well, with the current economic climate, but hopefully I should find something soon :). Until I DO find a job, though, I'm free too, so tuesday is cool. I'll see if I can get any other Leeds students interested too :P

I'm second year Eng Lit at Leeds Uni. I totally failed NaNo last year because of uni work, have even more of it this year and yet am bizarrely optimistic. I can but try, I suppose.

I have seminars till 3pm on Tuesdays, but am free after that.

Awesome, looks like tuesday is looking like a goer!

To Xodion (how on earth do I pronounce that? hehe) ~ the more the merrier, I say!
And to Atheling I have a friend who is also a second year english lit student at leeds uni doing Nano this year. =D You two should meet! I'll drag her along to this little get together hopefully.

Being as one of us has commitments shall we meet at just after 3 then? And so far most of us are (I think?) around Leeds uni/College of arts campus so shall we meet at Parkinson Steps? Baring fruit or a doodle of fruit or something fruity to keep with our fruity York/Leeds theme? And from there we can decide where to go to sit and have a natter?

I've got commitments later that evening but I doubt we'll be congregating right up until 7, so I think we're grand. =)

I'm a second year theoretical physics student. I've had an idea kicking around in my head for a while, and hopefully this will be the impetus I need to finally start writing the thing up. Unfortunately I've got lectures 'til 5 on Tuesdays, which means I probably won't be able to make the meetup.

I don't mind organising the little meets, even if I am a Nano newbie cause I'm well acqauinted with this kind of organisation, thing. So for people who can't make Tuesday next week, when is good for you?

Uhm, if any of you guys want my phone number just send me a Nano mail!

Former Biology student here, still living in Woodhouse and generally living the life of a happy dropout. I've incidentally jumped on the "Learning Japanese" bandwagon, with the help of the accomplished Blackcatphobia, so most of my days now are spent tearing my remaining hair out and screaming "Katakana! They're not words!"

I'd be up for a meet, whenever it is, though I work (Eek!) Mon-Wed 8-5.

Hope to see you all around somewhere!

Righto! Because they're seems to be quite a lot of us =) I'm just going to go ahead and set a time and a place for Tuesday, and then one for Friday or Saturday afternoon of next week. There after, if we're up for it, I'll probably drop down the little student meets to weekly/fornightly depending on how much interest there is.

For the Tuesday quick meet next week, I think the University of Leeds student union will be the most central location, with the certaintaity of everyone having seats. If anyone has any other suggestions feel free to let me know!

So!

    ~~~~~~Student Meet Tuesday- Definate~~~~~~~
    Tuesday 14th October, 2pm onwards
    The Terrace - University of Leeds Student Union.
    For those of you who aren't Leeds uni students, and don't know where this is and want to come please contact me!
    Send me a Nanomail and I'll give you directions and my mobile number =)
    ~~~~~~~Student Meet - Fri/Saturday~~~~~~~
    Friday 17th OR Saturday 18th October
    Location: The Quilted Llama (Next to Halo, central and funky + cheap drinks and food =D)
    From 4 onwards ~
    Again if you dunno where the Quilted Llama is or just want my phone number, send me a Nanomail.

    Let me know whether you'd prefer Friday or Saturday and I'll go from there.

In both cases, I'll be there early and will have a piece of fruit for you to recognise me by! I'll see you all there!

(Later Edit: I just realised that the later meet may clash with the Kick off Party! If the date for the Kick Off gets set as the 18th then we can cancel or set to Friday by default)

I prefer Friday anyway, to be honest - I go to a dojo in Bolton on Saturday mornings and don't end up home till about 3. I could do Saturday if that was easier for everyone else, but Friday's easier for me.

Hallo all :D

I can't make the meet-up but thought I'd drop in and say hi... I'm a first-year English student. Looking forward to the terrible choice between caring about other people's writing or caring about my own. Unfortunately the books due to read in November, I have no clue about either. Arghhhhhhh.

If we can find a time we're all free, maybe organising a weekly writing session could be good? For a bit of support and encouragement, pep-talking, etc...

That would be a really good idea. Some time when we can all make it - Close to office hours, so as not to interfere too much with other socialising, but definitely a time when we're all free.

hiya! am a postgrad at leeds uni, so some time on my hands which I should be using more productively, but I'm really keen on finishing my novel this year... I was in my last year of undergraduate, writing a senior thesis when I tried last year, so it ended up not working out. But, I learned time management :)

It'd be great to get a writing group going.. I'll definitely pop in on Tuesday, though not entirely sure if I can make the weekend thing.

Seconding the call for a weekly writing thing - I get very enthusiastic about writing, but my housemates don't appreciate it ^^;; Finding like-minded people will be a service to them... and more fun for me!

It's great to hear that we all want little write ins =) There will be write ins organised by our lovely ML Claire and others I believe so we'll keep an eye out for those and try to organise around them a bit as well, that way we all have loads of opportunity to get together with other mad Nanos.

I'm ALL for getting together on about a weekly basis for a few hours though. Something casual where we can sit with laptops and just chill and chat and work out ideas together. Does anyone have any suggested or prefered locations? =) For times, please specify ONE day/time which is most convenient for you. Personally Wednesday afternoons or Fridays are best.

Look forwards to seeing you guys on Tuesday and what looks to be Friday at the moment ^-^

Wednesday afternoons sounds great to me - I'm free from one onwards, I believe. How does everybody else like Wednesday afternoons?

And does anybody know what the poster situation is? Are we allowed just to whack them up where we please or is there an official noticeboard somewhere?

I would put them on general notice boards ~ like the one outside Old Bar and those stairs there... I guess it can't hurt to ask at the main desk in the foyer before hand.
I don't mind printing and popping up the posters if you don't have time =) ~

Wednesday is also okay for me ~ but we'll see what people say this week =)

I also love Wednesday afternoons. Carnally.

Ahem.

As for posters, I think they usually mention somewhere what's allowed on them and what's not. I'm pretty sure you can't just put anything up though. We'll have to check it out.
