A word war is something we mostly do on MSN (but will be doing at the write-ins as well).
You set a time to start writing and how long you will sprint for. When the time comes everyone goes to their novel (no chatting at all during this) and just writes for however long the war is going on (eg, 10-15 minutes usually) and write whatever is in their head. When time is up you stop and count how many words you have. Person who wrote the most wins (they don't actually win a prize, just the glory of writing the most out of everyone).
This is a great way to kill the inner-editor and just focus on word count.
