Greetings Fellow NaNo-ers,

To get the month off to a flying start, let's have a meet-up in Cardiff on Sunday 2nd. Based on experience from previous years, we'll use the Prince of Wales pub on Mary Street, Cardiff. It's a JD Wetherspoon's, so under-18 NaNo-ers are welcome.

Address details here: http://www.jdwetherspoon.co.uk/pubs/pub-details.php?PubNumber=207
Map details here: http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=CF10 1FA

Sunday 2nd November
Prince of Wales Pub
12 noon to about 2 o'clock

If you want to be easily spotted, wear a hat - I'll be wearing a purple hat and the subtle(!) ML T-shirt.

Come along and meet other NaNos before the panic sets in!

Not sure I have a hat....well, unless a sparkly cowgirl hat fits the bill? I may just have to wear a pink feather boa, haha!
Will definitely try and make it, depending on whether i can find someone kind enough to drive me to Cardiff from the Valleys! Great idea Jay, thanks :-D

I'm not sure I have a suitable hat either (well, maybe a woolly one, which might not be inappropriate if it stays this cold!). I will definitely try to make it - currently the only potential impediment is that my parents might be visiting that day - although I could always sneakily suggest that we go to the Prince of Wales for lunch!

Looking forward to meeting everyone!

Hats are entirely optional - but it's an easy way to be sure you've found the right (write?) bunch in the pub. Sparkly cowgirl hat would be perfect, and woolly hat is probably a very good idea. A feather boa sounds fun! Whatever anyone else does, I will be wearing a purple hat - so you can always spot me!

The Prince of Wales is fully accessible (if anyone needs advice on that front, send me a message and I'll do what I can).
- it's family-friendly, so you don't have to be 18
- they serve lots of soft drinks (great coffee) as well as a good range of real ales and the usual pub drinks
- food is available, from snacks to full meals

We usually try to take over one of the tables in the "booth" area, away from TVs.

I'm really looking forward to seeing everyone.

I've more or less sorted out my lift, so hurrah for NaNoMeets! I am swaying towards the feather boa but may settle for a conventional woolly hat, im sure to have one somewhere! No doubt we will all be half asleep after a night of writing mind! :)

I'll be there! Not sure what hat though, probably a black furry paddington bear one....or a wooly one!
Cant wait for it all to begin, am itching to go and cant settle to my 'work' writing at the moment.

It's a bit far from Germany, but I know the place. I could even wear my Roman helmet. :)

Have fun, all of you.

I should be there! I'll wear my cunning hat (any Firefly fans...?).

Edit: Well, if my dad consents to touch it for long enough to put it in a parcel and send it to me.

I have extracted a promise from my dad to mail me said hat, so all is well! I may pair it with one of my Firefly shirts, too -- "I can kill you with my brain" or "Curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal". Votes?

Funny story: I only have this hat due to NaNoWriMo. My ML last year gifted me with it. <3

Cool - a real NaNo hat with a pedigree! Hope you don't expect your ML this year to dish out any hats. The freebies I have are a little less adventurous ...

I most likely won't be at the meet-up (I think my three-month-old is a bit young for NaNo!) but good luck to all the other Cardiff-based writers. Hopefully I'll get to at least one meet-up along the way to meet some of you.

My housemate just bought a beret, but judging by the uncontrollable laughter that wearing it produced, I may just wear a beanie. I'll see how I feel on the day. This is a first time for me. Do I need to bring anything in particular, or just myself and my thinking (read:drinking) head?

Looking forward to meeting everyone! I'll be the tall, dark-haired, exhausted one, who looks like he's bitten off more than he can chew!

I very nearly bought a red and white striped tall hat, a la Dr Seuss, but i refrained.. mostly because i'd look like an idiot! I may well turn up in a run-of-the-mill winter warmer... but i HAVE seen a rather fetching Jester hat on Ebay..... decisions, decisions.... I swear, im spending more time choosing a hat than worrying about my MC lately....

Hmmm... a beret... I had one of those somewhere, brought back from Paris in typical tourist fashion. I wonder if I can dig it out...

Really looking forward to this! :) Might have to buy a special hat, just for the occassion. :) I'll be in Cardiff anyway that day for something or another...The Hobbycraft convention? An Evening with Victor Spinneti? Oh, I can't remember...But I'll be there. :)

Loks like we're going to have quite a gathering - and some great hats! I now suspect that this is good displacement activity - instead of spending October worrying about the books we can't start writing yet, we talk about the hats we're gonna wear to the meet-up. Cool!

What to bring? Well, yourself and cash for a drink or two are the important ones. Hats, of course. I'll be bringing a couple of silly games for us to play and a pen would be useful for those.

Getting really excited about NaNo this year - roll on November!

Drats. I'm away the weekend of the 2nd and am very unlikely to be back in time!

Also, I'm late. I had promised myself that I'd take a break (having just finished a part-time diploma and before moving on to post-grad stuff next year).

Unfortunately, or rather fortunately, I've come around. Writing is rather like my rehab after studying. ;-)

I hope to make one of the other meet-ups. It's good to be back!

Hi Nilynrae, good to see you again.

Sorry you can't make the 2nd, but we'll organise another couple of meet-ups (I'm just trying to pin down everything else in my life so I can arrange them!).

I think writin will be excellent therapy for you after studying, and I'm glad that you've come around to that point of view!

Happy typing

Howdy :D

Being a NaNo virgin, i was wondering whether i would need to bring my laptop with me, to sit in the corner writing manically... or whether my sparkling wit and personality, combined with a few glasses of vino, will be all that is required? ;-)

I'd love to make a promise - but what with partner home only briefly, and doggie to walk (I don't think he can come to a pub, and even if he was welcome, I am not sure he'd enjoy it that much) I can only offer a 'Maybe'.

I'll try (and I know, I know - "Do, or not do, There is no 'try' ")

Oh, and I always where a hat (unfashionable as that has seemed since about 1923). A very battered trilby.

The old geezer, with the long grey hair, a hat and an attitude... :-)

I have no idea - I assumed that this was going to be a 'meet and get to know' sort of thing rather than a writing session. I could be wrong though. Anyone?

This year I actually know where the Prince Of Wales is! I don't have any hats, I don't think, but I'll see what my hosuemates can provide.
