Updates and a meet!

Hi guys - sorry I've been pretty much MIA in public on the forums (hopefully though the work I've done in private has helped ;)) but I thought I'd pop my head above the turrets, say hiya, and arrange the final meet.
My son is away at camp this weekend, so I can arrange a meet for Saturday OR Sunday - my youngest can handle playing with a DS for a bit/earning stickers for being good (though, she collects High school musical ones).

So let me know which you'd prefer and we'll see what we can arrange.
I *am* also setting up a chatroom for after the Nanowrimo - so we can all stay in touch at the end of this.

And for those that are finished, congrats. I've finished three of my books, and I'm delighted :) It's been a definitive shift this year, and, as soon as the plot is all annoted, I'm going to file it all and take a break to set up some other stuff.

I don't have independent transport and so I haven't managed to meet up with any fellow NaNos. Wondered if there is anyone vaguely nearby who might like to meet up?

I'm not sure if I'll be able to make it to another meeting (do we have one planned?) as I am struggling to keep my head above water as it is. But I would love some stickers and stuff, happy to donate via paypal or Kai I can give directly to your DP.

We've had stickers arrive for handing out, and I know I'm not seeing everyone in the region, so what I'm willing to do is send them out to those that won't see us by second class post. There is a catch to this.
Could people in differnet regions of the county comment or start a thread for where they are/where they're nearest.
Unfortunately, I'm reliant on people telling me/teaming up if they can meet people, to save on postage.
In Scotland we used to have people donate to a paypal account, account for it all and donate the rest to the Nanowrimo itself, and I'm happy to do that, or send for distribution to groups of people that can meet. Course, those in Cheltenham can come meet me ;)

So, if we could first work out where everyone is (I've seen mention of Dursley, Stroud and Gloucester, as well as Cheltenham), and from there I can work out if it's a better idea to post them individually and have everyone donate 50p (or send me stamps), or if I'm going to cover the expense myself as an additional donation to the Nano ;)
So, first person starts the thread for thier 'sub region' - everyone else that's nearby can reply ;)
And once we've worked THAT out, we might be able to sort out a couple of Co-mls to help support the groups that can't come to the main meets I organise. And then we can all have a blast together ;)

(as a poor student, I'm all for donating, I just want to make sure I'm splitting the donation right, y'know :D)

I can't believe the nanowrimo is 10 years old. I can't believe I'm on my sixth year wtih them.
AND I really can't believe that my first nano is under consideration.
So...enough about me.
Welcome to the board. Welcome back to the board.
I'm Kai. I'm a second year Undergrad of creative writing. I attend Slak, and have (apparently) a broad Scottish acccent, so I'm easy to spot, even without the t-shirt of glowing doom. I may actually wear another t-shirt cuase it's even more eyecatching, but more on that nearer the time ;))
I'd really appreciate it if those in Cheltenham and the surrounding areas, and those that can commute to Cheltenham, could confirm when thier 'good' days are, so I can arrange meetings - though, I'm thinking that Friday evening/Saturday or Sunday during the day is the best plan, but I'm willing to head with the most popular days.
Those that can't commute, if you're in areas that we cover, let me know and I'll see if we can organise something for you guys. I'm willing to take on a Co-ml in Gloucester/Stroud/wherever else we cover (sorry, I'm really rubbish with geography :( ).
I'm also setting up a mailing list and chatroom on the back end of my site, for times when the server is hard to access (trust me, it happens) and so we can run virtual chat challenges 'etc'.

I'm really excited about this year - so please introduce yourself, and what you're hoping to do.

Just a little note to see how everyone else is getting on in this wonderful region ...

Yes i'm a little nosey and while i should be writing more to my piece that seems to be slowing and becoming more dull each time i sit to write, here i am checking out forums!

Just wondering if anyone was having any similar issues?

Things just seem to be slowing down badly for me, my MC isn't everything he's supposed to be and i'm struggling to bring in a villain or some kind of evil source ....

Any ideas folks???

Novels for Kai this year - how bout you?

I've got three very specific projects in mind for the Nano this year, and wanted to see if anyone else has plans at this (late) stage ;).

Two are 'straight' projects - one chicklit/literature style book, the other a horror/scifi/cyberpunky slipstream dealie.
My third project is to take prompts suggested to me by people, and use them in my stories. So that's 30 days of a story that could - and probably WILL go anywhere.
:)

The oh my goodness I can't believe we're doing this....meet

Ok guys.
I've had a fairly spread 'when we can meet' discussion from everyone, so could you look at your calendars and see when, between now and November 2nd you can manage. I AM free on weekends, but I need to tell my partner when he's required to babysit.
The meet will be in Cheltenham town centre (a pub, Starbucks or other cafe, depending on numbers. I'm actually leaning towards varsity or Witherspoons unless it's early afternoon, but Starbucks and the other places we *could* meet for coffee tend to be packed, so a pub is probably our best bet. I'm also attempting to speak nicely to campus security over this month to find out if we can have meets on the FCH campus grounds, but I'm not holding my breath.
So - what I need from you guys.
I cannot make:
During the day any time during the week.
Before 5:30 on a Tueday/Wednesday
Monday and wednesday evenings (wed after 7pm)
ANY spontaneous meets ;)

Which leaves, based on what's been said and what I know is ruled out (most people have said 'no' to during the week) -
November 1st or 2nd any time - evenings might be easier so that we get a maximum of participants, but I'm happy to hang out early afternoon to night and do random write ins etc with people.
Halloween is ruled out because of the big events in town around Halloween (we won't get into ANYWHERE to have a quietish chat).
I might be able to make Thurs 30th in the evening, but we'd need to decide this weekend.

As a forward looking thing - I may have problems the friday before/after my birthday and the week in between as my mother is down visiting (it's my 30th this year and she's making a huge deal out of it). In which case, I'll hand over to a second year freind who can still conviene stuff ;)

Sub group meetings

I've been PM'd/IM'd about this and thought I'd try and explain a few things - so excuse me while I talk about myself for a sec.
I've been doing the Nanowrimo for...well...for as long as they've been running it with ML's. My first Nanowrimo was in 2003, just after I split from my ex. I ran the WHOLE of Scotland :D.
Because it was such a big district, I organised with people to organise meets themselves in places I just couldn't get to.

Fast forward to last year - I had a broken foot, and had just started Uni. My (now) fiancee and I decided that if I was running events, that I'd only run the ones in my own comfort zone, and let others run in other parts of the county.
This group covers the whole of Gloucestershire - so if anyone wants to take on a part of the county that doesn't have cover, just holler in my direction :)
I'm 'in charge' of organising and documenting everything, like our meets, but if someone else wants to run meets elsewhere, or on different days, I'm all for that - just let me know.

We'll be arranging a 'lets meet everyone' in the next few weeks :D
