I've been to two NaNo meetings with this region, so I obviously don't know you that well. Maybe others don't either? Maybe we have things in common that we don't know about? So here's a get-to-know-you-people thread, I guess. Tell us a bit about yourselves and what you like to write, and possibly a few strange or unusual facts no one knows about you?

I guess I'll begin...

My name is Sarah and I'm a high school senior. I have ten cats in addition to a younger sister (yikes). I like to read and write about different cultures and ideas and things of that nature, which stems from the way I adore foreign languages and cultures, and will more than likely be participating in a gap year foreign exchange in '09-'10.

Now it's your turn!

Hey guys! I'm Addy, and I am also a high school senior. I live in the middle of nowhere with my parents, dogs, and twin brother and sister. I'm a serious band geek, and a nerd -- I read and write for fun, but y'all can't judge 'cause you must be too! ;)

Yo hablo espanol una poco; estoy tomando en secondario y lo encantada.
Anyone understand that? I said ' I speak spanish a little; I am taking it in school and love it.'

I'm college bound next year, hopefully on my way to either Penn State or Mansefield for, you guessed it, a major in English or Creative Writing.

Interesting tidbit about myself: I sing opera music for school, and occasionally for money in the community. I hate listening to it, though. *shrugs* go figure.

Hey there. I'm Jenny. This is my third year doing NaNo. It's a great rush. I can't wait to get started even though I haven't done much planning.

I always get excited when I see students heading off to major in English and/or Creative Writing. It's such a great major and I think you'll really enjoy it. I've found mostly freelance work since I graduated, but I wouldn't trade in my degree for a million bucks.

Good luck on your novels.

Hi guys!

YAY! MORE YOUNG PEOPLE! My name's Phoebe, and I'm a junior, and planning on going to Lycoming College for Digital Media Comunications (graphic design, acting/directing/movies, writing, all that fun stuff).

I'm writing a superhero story this year....I'm in love with superheroes. I'm obsessed with Doctor Who and now Sanctuary....big sci-fi/fantasy girl. Weird things about me....I love Christian Rap and Christian punk. Unusual combination, but I love it!

As for writing, right now I've been blessed with a writing coach (she'll have at least one book coming out in 09, she should have at least two more coming out in the next one or two years.) It's very exciting. And I write movie reviews for the Muncy Luminary! Woot.

Doctor Who is amazing. <3

I forgot to put my future plans. -__- I'll probably go to LHU, since it's close to home and I can save $8,000-ish by living at home. I want to get my Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education for French (although this might switch to German by the end of this year), but my dream job would be teaching English as a Foreign Language in a different country.

LHU as in Lock Haven University? Main or branch campus?
Reason I ask is I'm also throwing in Lock Haven and IUP for my list of potential colleges... aren't I supposed to be narrowing them down now, though? Argh. College picking is hard.

Ogee: I really want to see the old version, but YouTube doesn't have it. Shows the progression of the teenage population to say that just because YouTube doesn't have it, all hope is lost, eh? XD

Wishes: The main campus. I live like, five minutes from it. Plus my mom said that if I go abroad, I'm going to attend LHU for at least the first year after I get back because of finances and such. Plus LHU has what I want and it's cheap and it's a nice campus with an amazing cafeteria (thank you, Model UN, for making us eat there <3). Ah, oui...

Has anyone tried Fancast.com to see if they have any of the old series of Dr. Who, I know hubby likes to visit it for old Star Trek and Gilligan's Island shows. Just a thought.

I hope all of you get to attend a meeting, they are fun and full of conversation. I'm Jane, from the Lock Haven area, I still haven't totally decided what I'm going to write about. I'm owned by a tuxedo cat that swears the only reason I live is to serve her. I'm pretty sure she's on the right track since she's spoiled rotten. I'm almost a half century old, and just refocusing on writing. I'm pretty much enjoying this journey as I discover that long last yearn to tell the tales that invade my head.

Hey everybody, my name is Robert and I'm from the Jersey Shore area (although I'm currently in Rochester until mid-November). I did my first NaNo in 2004, the only year I've won. I'm a freshman in college right now and have no idea if I will be even participating this year because I have finals in early November, plus all kinds of other stuff. I'm majoring in Information Technology at RIT, and I plan on minoring in Creative Writing or something in business. A weird combination, I know.

I've actually never been to a meet-up yet, but perhaps I will go to one this year... even if I decide not to NaNo!

Greetings all, it's fun to be back. I also love Dr. Who, and Torchwood. I am a novelist in search of a publisher. It's not as easy as they make it sound. Meanwhile, I keep writing the books. :) I'm doing a fantasy this year, for a change.

Well, let's see...

I am a preacher (yes, a good old fashioned Reverend), and an adjunct college professor. I am a HUGE movie fanatic, and my first book was published in September 2008. It is titled "Reel Diversity: A Teacher's Sourcebook" that I co-wrote with a former student of mine.

Some people say that my writing and teaching style border on the provocative. I admit that I like to surprise people, particularly by using the simple things of life to explain difficult concepts.

I am a Nanowrimo first-timer and will need all the help and advice I can get.

*sniff* I'm getting all choked up that there are so many Dr Who fans in nano this year. For someone who's been a fan for over 20 years it's great the new series has got it out to so many new fans. Hope to meet all of you at some get togethers.

wow hi everyone!
I guess I'm the youngest. I am Ali by the way. I am a freshman and I have never done this before but I am really excited. I always write very short stories that never go anywhere so I thought that I might as well do something with my writing. I have two stepsisters and I am a total drama and arts nerd. I write all the time and my parents have a hard time getting my nose out of a book.
I hope to go to future meetings in town.
would it be ok if i came since I'm only fourteen?
Anyway, please let me know.
xoxo Ali

There is no age limit for coming to our meetings. In fact we have a very wide range of ages, from elementary school on up.

Our entire schedule of upcoming events is in a thread called "Nano Events!", or you can click here:
http://www.nanowrimo.org/eng/node/3046882

Hopefully that works as a link for you.

Our next meeting is at the James V Brown Library on 4th Street at 2:00. We'll be either on the business balcony or the 4th floor, depending on their construction. This week we are locking up our internal editors so they stop messing with our progress and other activities to help keep everyone motivated.

Looking forward to meeting you!
