Standard fantasy novel. Although I'm not using one standard of fantasy: races that aren't human. I have humans and humans who use magic, but no elves dwarves or orcs or anything like that.

Historical romance for me. A speculative fiction about what really happened to Anne Bonny. Do you belong to RWA (Romance Writers of America?) A great resource for the romance writer!

Mine is science fiction, set in a post apocalyptic world with what happened I have no idea. There are talking cats involved although I don't think they're exactly from... here... and people that get these cats and what happens after that.

Historical Romance.

With a side order of angst, humor, friendship, and 'real life'...

Fantasy - human only in a 10th centuray chinese based country. Depending on how you want to interpret the difinition, it might be considered Wuxia.

Historical suspense. It's just listed as suspense/mystery but it's based around the turn of the century, therefore historical!

Originally I thought it would be mainstream fiction but now I'm thinking fantasy or thriller. And all because I changed a murder weapon from a gun to a crossbow! :)

I'm going to be a bit of a rebel this year and either work on short stories, or keep adding to my 2005 novel, which I would maybe classify as a literary western. I've decided any fiction I write this November counts toward the 50K. This is my 5th year doing NaNo, so I don't mind not doing it the "right" way.

I think it's chick lit, or lit fiction or mainstream fiction, but it could be a mystery and it probably will include a road trip which might just be a total downer trip, but that remains to be seen.

I'm writing a "non-fiction novel". It'll feel more fiction than anything, especially with the absurd and pretty unbelievable circumstances the story arounds. It crosses young-adult with romance. It's also a comical tragedy. It takes place here and in Australia. I've been dying to get this 5-year-long story out of my head and onto paper for the longest time and I think it's going to be one of the most rewarding experiences I've had in my life. Yay!

Something vaguely steam-punkish. Or possibly straight historical fiction. Or some combination thereof.

Something about writing on a manual typewriter tends to color your fiction, I think.

Yes it does Duffy, did you see that steampunked laptop? That thing looked awesome. Totally modded to look like it would have run on steam back in the day. The wireless card was also an ink well for a quill pen.

Either historical fiction or thriller...I guess I have about 13 days to get that straight... ;-) Or, maybe it'll be both..aha!

Horror/Thriller this year. Go figure, though my first Nano was definitely a male version of chic lit. Odd that. I did the Fantasty last year, with humans and humans with magic. Fun stuff.

It'll be a romance. I'll probably decide on Oct. 31 if it will be historical, paranormal or contemporary. It'll depend which characters keep me from sleeping the most.

Ghost Story. The Persistence of Memory.

Yes, I stole the title from Salvador Dali. It will be about how your memory of an event or a person can change over time.

Hi all
Missed introductions and didn't make it to the kick-off, but I'm doing a mystery this year.

Hi:

I missed the kickoff and intros, too, and am new to NaNoWriMo...but I'm aiming to crank out 50,000 words of magical realism.

Yikes! I just realized that my whole concept of two people sharing the same dream might turn this into magical realism. So now I have a chicklit romance (is that redundant?) magical realism mystery. This is exhausting.

Ditto, actually...sans library. More sword & sorcery, and mine definitely will have a dragon. :P

I'm writing an urban fantasy thriller. It is a sequel to last year's NaNovel that was in the same genre. I guess I'm consistant for two years in a row for the first time in my NaNo career.

But it sounds very cool! Just think of the broad-based audience you'll appeal to! :)
