This is my first time doing nanowrimo. I actually joined last year but had some stuff going on and wasn't able to participate, but I am excited about it this year. I just wanted to see if anyone else was in the Tuscaloosa area.

I actually live in the Montgomery area, but there's a decent chance that I'll be in T-town for a little bit of my writing.

Yeah, I'm at the University here. I think there is also a group of students at the University who do a kickoff party for those participating.

I'm at the University, too. Anybody know when/where I can find Wrimo campus get togethers?

A friend of mine mentioned one last year, but no luck. I'll ask her real quick to see if she might know of a kickoff par-tay this year.
Well I've checked facebook, and the Crimson Calender, and no mention of it on either. still waiting on a reply from my friend.
If anyone at the University is up for meeting at Gorgas(or Starshmucks, if you wish--as long as it's a public place) to write and/or brainstorm plots ideas, I'm up for it.

I'm at the University, and as this is my first year doing this I could definitely use some get-togethers to help me through this, lol. Anyone want to gather for the first day to kick it off?

lol. Hey jtdominguez. I had no idea you were doing this!
Yes, yes we should organize a get-together of some type. I vote for one of the libraries or starbucks, if it's not too loud. And the first day of November is on a Saturday, which should work out great.
I also suggest we use facebook to organize it, since, well...everyone at the university is pretty much on facebook.
another idea:
We could also do a once-a-week or 3-meetings during the month. One at the start, one at the middle, and one at the end, I'll have to check and see if they're not on gamedays so people who have to work those days(or go to the games) won't be hindered.
http://www.rolltide.com/sports/m-footbl/sched/alab-m-footbl-sched.html
Okay the bad news:
perfectly done, the schedule for le parties would be:
11/1, 11/15, and 11/29
Unfortunately we have games on ALL THOSE DAYS.
Including the Auburn game, which is the 29th of November.
So we could have a kickoff party on the 1st of november(at night, after the game, or early in the morning), and then the second writing party that next saturday on the 8th(the LSU away game), and then the ending party(or the write like crazy party) on the 22nd(which has no game).
Which leaves the people who must work on gamedays free(66% of the time).
There -is- a UA chapter of nanowrimos(http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=30070934562&ref=nf), so I'll be sure to mention the even to the group on facebook, and see if they're doing anything as well.
As for the time to meet, I'm good with anytime during Saturday. Keep in mind if it's 8am in the morning I might be a few minutes late, but I will show up no matter what time is decided.

guh...I just realized the 22nd is during Thanksgiving break.(so if we choose that day I won't be able to go. I will, however, be great for a meeting on the 29th)
I'm good for anytime on these days.
But I guess we can just focus on the first writing session right now.
Is the 1st of November, at Gorgas(I'm thinking floor 4M, since it has a lot of reference books?), around 4-pm-ish til close good for everyone?
Also I will be happy to brainstorm with anyone who would like ideas for plots. I will probably also go ahead of time and dig out books that people might find interesting or good for the creative juices from the library's stock.
I will also bring my laptop just in case, although I normally write it down on paper first, then transfer it to my laptop.

I also volunteer signs that say "Shh! Nanowrimos at work!" or something of that nature so people will know what on earth is happening.

I don't quite know when I have to work on Saturday yet, since our new schedules aren't put up until Wednesday, but four-ish to close sounds good to me. And as for other meetings...I'm up for it, but maybe we should not stress out about it yet? And since it is pretty difficult to work around the football schedule on campus, we could always do it on a Sunday or Friday evening? Sunday, expecially, is usually a pretty dead day once I've finished all of my homework. :-P

Yeah, Sundays and Fridays would be good for me as well.

They close Gorgas on Saturdays at 2pm.
http://www.lib.ua.edu/hours.htm

So then we go to either Morgan(if the classbuildings are open on Saturdays. Anyone know?) and/or The Ferg, which hopefully won't be evilly busy. we can always take over the little sitting area across from Starbucks after 4pm instead. It won't be the Library, but it should be quieter than the Quad or quite a few other places.
If anyone else can recommend a central, not-closed-on-gamedays, not-too-far off campus or such location for us to meet, I'm completely open to it.
I have no idea if we can reserve a room for Nanowrimo or not, though.

How about those Blount places near the library? You're in that, aren't you? So you can use your ACT card to get in? It doesn't seem like this gatherin will be too big yet, so if it stays this small we can use those buildings. Cause I'm going to tell you...Starbucks on a home game is not relaxing or conducive for writing, lol. Too many people and too many distractions.

I'll keep thinking of places, though. We can always go off-campus if we need to, though getting back on campus will be a pain because of all the closed off areas.

Oliver-Brenard and Toumey Hall--They lock them at night and I'm pretty sure they lock them on weekends. Plus There's warning signs inside about having non-blount students in there. -.- sorry.
We could use one of the dorms--the blount dorm has the "tower room" which is on my floor. It's pretty nice in there. but I will need to put up posters saying that it'll be used for something before Wednesday or so.

I won't mind if we go off-campus--I'm pretty cool with where-ever. I will also volunteer my car if need be. But on-campus is best, considering driving somewhere will add an extra something to organize, and then people with rides won't be able to come and go as they please.
Edit:
Well, since no one's had any brilliant ideas or has volunteered any other good locations, I've decided to have the write-in at the Blount Tower room. It's literally less than 20 feet from my doorway and less than a 4 minute walk for the other WriMo who has shown serious interest in joining this write-in.
The blount dorm is on 2nd street, right next to Paty. I will put up my phone number on the facebook event so people who need someone to let them in can call or text me and then I'll post the link to the facebook event here as soon as I've started it tomorrow.
We're still starting at 4 and ending probably around 8 or so.

Good thing I found this thread in time. I definitely am up for a kick-off meeting.

This is my second year doing NaNo, but my first year down here at the University. Looking forward to meeting my fellow wrimos.

Yay! New blood, lol. Nenona and I already know each other, so it would be great to make some new writing buddies from this. Especially if you've already done it before. You can help us newbs out. :-P

I'm in Tuscaloosa going to the University as well. I found out about this NaNo thing just yesterday from a friends and decided to join. I am actually going to start writing as soon as I finish setting up my account. I would totally be up for meeting with you other writers and blowing off some stress. I have never done this before, so I have no clue what to expect!

I go to UA as well. I don't know anyone doing this, and it's my first time, so any support would be great! Starbucks in Midtown closes at 10, and I'm assuming Panera and B&N close at a similar time, if not earlier. I do not live in an environment conducive to writing, so if anyone has any late-night location suggestions, let me know! Good luck to everyone!

For college, I must suggest any of the libraries on campus that are open at obscene hours of the Night. i think gorgas goes to 2am, doesn't it? and then the business library is open 24 hours this semester, I think.

I am taking part in this. A little rushed on the writing, but I hope to get something, anything done out of this month. lol. I also go to UA, and seem to need something to fill my time despite classes, blog writing for the CW, and working at the radio station. So yes, I'd be interested in hearing about another Nanowrimo meeting. :)

Roll Tide!

lol. You can tell if anyone's from Tuscaloosa just by that quote alone!
Anywho, I'm glad to have met all of you. It's not often that you meet members of your hometown on something as big as NaNoWriMo!!

This is my first year, too! :) Last year I signed up late *sighs* so this year was real excitement...until I made a committment to write ...and write...and write. Still, it's going better than I thought. On some occasions, NaNoWriMo pushes me to writing like the wind.

Let's shoot for the word-iest home region! ;) Good luck,
