East side Write-ins (and Posts of I'll be here)

Being in Northwest Licking, east side write ins or Northeast write ins are much more doable for me. If I can get to it via 605 (Reynoldsburg-NewAlbany Rd) fairly easily it saves me a lot of miles. I'm game for write ins in Gahanna, Easton, Westerville, and Reynoldsburg/Pataskala. Also, if anyone is really outside of Columbus on the north/east side I know a couple of great local coffee houses in Johnstown and Sunbury that would likely welcome Wrimos (we're good business, let's face it. Caffeine tends to be the elixir of choice during November). I will try to make it to the kick-off, obviously, but I can't promise yet. That's about 40 minutes from me, go figure.

There's a coffee house in Johnstown? I live in Mt. Vernon and wasn't aware. I think there was one on 62, near the school, but didn't it close? My writing group meets in Gahanna every other week, and we try to hook up quite a bit during Nano, too. I know at least two of us will be there at the kickoff, so hopefully we can meet up and chat!

Yeah, that coffee house is still there! I know it is hard to get to from some directions because of the congestion on 62 anymore.

I'll definitely have to try to make the kick-off. I'm trying to conserve gas until I start substitute teaching (job market=bad news) but hopefully I'll be working by then.

I'm Newark/Granville and I work in Reynoldsburg, so if you are having a write in, i'm all for it. I can't make it to the kick off party or many of the official write-in's I'm afraid, because I work all weekend.

Anyone interested in Tuesday write-ins of an informal basis? I can't commit to an all-day write-in, but I'd definitely be up for, say, a four hour stretch?

Panera in Reyn at 70 & 256?

I "ass/u/me'd" this thread was only about East side write-ins and hadn't read Chaoticpi's post before I began another thread about day-time write-ins. So sorry. Please feel free to reply on this thread instead of my other thread.

Again, I'm interested in day-time write-ins especially in the NW Columbus area (Grandview/UA/Clintonville/Dublin/Hilliard) and I especially like the Mill Run Panera since many of the booths have been retrofitted with electric outlets.

I could probably do Tuesdays during the day at the Panera on 70 and 256. During school hours, you know--say 9 am to 2 pm --Let me know if you'd like to do this!

Is anybody interested in doing a write-in in the Westerville/Gahanna area? I'm thinking either over at Easton or there's a great Panera at Morse and Hamilton (beside Kohls). Anybody in the area interested? i could do something like a Tuesday or Thursday evening, or a weekend day...

easton would be awesome for me. actually polaris or that panera would work, too, but i had been thinking last week about the easton barnes and noble as a potential write-in locale. they've got the little balcony thing upstairs, or they've got the cafe area. tuesday evenings would be best for me, although thursday is the only night that's definitely out.

I usually don't like the Easton B&N or areas around there, it's just not conducive to writing. Plus, you have to battle and circle the available plugs and seating like vultures. (There's only about 4-5 places to plug yourself in in the whole entire place.) My favourite haunt for writing is the Cup O Joe at the Lennox or the Borders on Henderson and Kenny. Great atmosphere. :]

Not too far from that Panera, which was so crowded on Nov 1 that my writing group couldn't even sit together, is a coffee house called Java's. It's up off Beecher Crossing - nice place, good atmosphere, friendly staff, and the coffee won't kill you. The chairs aren't built for stamina though. Only drawback. My writing group meets there every other Saturday during off-nano months. You should try them if yer looking for places in that area.

I would very much like to do write-ins at the Easton B&N or that Panera on Hamilton. I can't this Tuesday, though, but next Tuesday, or on the weekends.

I will probably be writing at the B&N here and there and will let people know when I'm going, in case they want to drop by.

I appreciate that maybe the Easton area isn't the most conducive atmosphere for writing in some ways (and I'm totally with you on the circling vultures -- it is bad!), but the Lennox is a heckuva drive for me, especially after a long day of work. I'm interested in something a little closer to me, and the most obvious place close to me is...well, the Easton area. That's also why I suggested the Panera on Hamilton -- it doesn't get the traffic flow of the Panera or B&N at Easton (though I bet either of those wouldn't be bad on a weekend night. And I do like B&N...it has BOOKS! :-)

Polaris would also work for me.

Someone mentioned their writing group in Gahanna -- could you give a little more info on what the group's like in terms of members (various ages, mostly a particular age, etc.?), genres (fanfiction, genre fiction, etc.?), average project length (short stories, novels, etc.?) goals (eg is the group mostly people who are writing for fun, for publication, or is the group a bunch of people who aren't published yet but are dedicated to getting there, etc.?)

I was in a great group of writers for a while, but we had a definite range of members -- some who were just starting out and some who were professionals with multiple publishing credits, and the group ended up splitting as a result. Also, the groups were focused on short fiction, not novel-length, so as great as the people were, it wasn't a good match for me.

Okay, Katsesama, the Easton B&N it is. I like books, too! And I'll either be writing longhand or on my alphasmart, so I'm not worried about outlets. Do you have any time to get together this weekend? Otherwise, next Tuesday after work I should be free.

I'm also interested in the Gahanna writing group, but I think I will wait till Jan. to join (provided you are still taking new members then!). I don't think I have time this month, and December is definitely going to be crazy.

For the people who are interested in meeting on the NorthEast (Easton/Hamilton Road area) on Sunday, how about 2 or 3 pm to about 5 pm? (That gets us out before it's totally dark, which can be helpful when searching for your car. ;-)

Annie -- that sounds great. Your shirt will help a lot. If I get there first (though I'll warn you I'm almost never anywhere first :-) I'll set out the NaNo table tent. I have longish brown hair and a Toshiba computer, so I'll probably be looking for a place in the cafe near a plug (though I have a good battery and a good old fashioned lined tablet so I'll survive if not)
