I just wanted to give y'all a heads up on the kick off. We have the Brookstone Clubhouse in Beavercreek reserved for Saturday. November 1st. I'll get directions out to you soon. It is near the intersection of North Fairfield and New Germany Trebein, right off I-675. We had it there last year and it seemed to work out well.
We'll have a few changes from last year... I'm trying to change the lay out and bring in more chairs and such this year. My current plan is to have it open for anyone wishing to write about 1pm and the party starting around 6ish. It will be a covered dish potluck like we did last year. If you have a dish you would like to bring, please post here and I'll keep a list of what we have coming.
I'll update you as we get closer, and hope we can turn out a good crowd! (I think we had about twenty folks last year... see if we can beat it!)

Great! I'm actually subbing at the Beavercreek branch until 2:00 that Saturday. Give me a call or an email if you two want me to come over early and help setup again this year.

My son and I will be there. Yeah, I managed to corrupt my 10-year-old into the insanity. He's signed on as BeJazz, and has committed himself to 3,000 words. :-D

I'm new, and I would love to come. I'm not sure how many hours, or whether I'd stay for the party (need to clear it with the family). But I can probably make it for at least a few hours. :)

I too am a first-timer. Have read obsessively my whole life, have edited a couple of books for publication, but never thought I had an original thought in my head that deserved becoming a book. But I like the NaNoWriMo approach and will give it a go...
----------I donated to NaNoWriMo on October 8, but despite sending two requests for help, there is still no halo attached to my profile as of this date. :(

How late past 6pm do you think the party will go? I have "horse duty" at home, but I may be able to make it there by 6:45 or 7pm.

I'll definitely be there--not sure what time but I'm thinking at least by 3:30 or 4.
I'll try to bring some dessert--I just need to know what allergies people have and/or what they don't like (like nuts for example...)

Gilder,
I think last year we went from 6-10pm. Most of the events (raffles, door prizes, group story, etc) wrapped up around 930.
Welcome to everyone! I hope you can all drop by to say hello at the very least!

I will have to bow out early, as my son has a hockey game to attend. He just got a letter from the scouts that they're attending the Nov. 1 game between the Dayton Bombers and some other team. The pack or troop that has the most attending will get to be the honor guard. Since his father isn't driving, I'll have to drive them. I may be able to sneak back though... especially if someone brings anything chocolate. ;-)

Walker, I'll be there nice and early to help out (and write). I'm planning to bring the cheesy potato casserole I brought last year, and we'll talk about what else is needed.
Also bringing the games I brought last year.

Hey Walker
I'm planning to attend and unless work intervenes, I'll be there with a side dish and a dessert. Anthony had decided against participating this year, though.

I will be there, and will plan on bringing brownies and perhaps a cake. I will try to get there early as well, or the write-in part of the day!

I'll be there. I've never done this before (writing, not potluck!), what should I bring? Pasta salad = complex carbs for sustained typing energy?

I will be there!
I have 5 vacation days left this year to use, an I'm hoping to use them all up in November, and try and be in Dayton for writing events. But we'll see how it goes.
I will try and bring something protein-y, but it probably won't be vegetarian. (If it doesn't have meat, it will probably have egg)

Pasta salad always works at a potluck... and sustained energy for writing is always a good thing!
There will be spaces available for people wanting to write.
There will also be people wanting to play games and socialize. And that takes energy, too!

Hello there,
I am going to arrive super early so that I can get a jump start on my novel. I plan to be there at 1PM.
Is there a place where I can store a cheese ball until it's time for everyone to show up? I can get one made for the "early" folks and another for the official party.
Can't wait to see how this year's novel works out :)

Gregory - There is a fridge on hand, as well as an oven and microwave. I do not recall if there's a stove top, but I know we have those and a sink.

Okay, this is my standard heads-up that I double as a freelance columnist with the paper (not that paper) and will be putting in a blurb about NaNo and the launch.
As for the potluck, I have no idea what I'm bringing. I guess I'll surprise myself this year.

My plans were just cancelled so I WILL be able to make it. I have no idea what I am bringing--whatever I can whip together. I'll be there around 4 pm, just guessing.

Anthony will be coming with me after all. He's decided to shoot for 10k this year, since he'll be 10 years old by the end of the month. (Just FYI, I don't get upset when people use bad language around him. I know a few people felt like they had to censor their tongues the last time he came to a kick-off, but he's mature enough to realize he shouldn't repeat that stuff.)
We'll be bringing cookies and a shrimp tortellini dish.

I will be attending the kick-off. I am tossing my hat (or possibly notebook) into the ring.
Not sure what I'll be bringing. Basically whatever my boyfriend picks up from the store.
Oh, and I'll have suckers. I need suckers. I'm a smoker so it'll stop me from making an excuse to step outside and thus ignore my novel.
Wee!
Edit to add: Will there be plugs for laptops? My battery on a good day only lasts about half an hour. It's an old laptop and well, it's all I have besides hand-writing and I think too fast for that.
