Are there any Sonomans out there who would like to meet for regular write-ins? Marin events, or even Santa Rosa can be a bit too much of a drive after a long day of work. I propose we schedule some social writing time close to home.
Barking Dog Coffee on Hwy 12 at Boyes Blvd. has outlets, snacks, comfy couches, and I've used it as a home office for hours at a time without so much as a dirty look from the friendly staff.
For those who prefer to novel under the influence, Murpy's Irish Pub also has outlets inside, and a wonderful staff who don't mind being invaded by crazy people. They also have the benefit of real food available, so we can write through dinner or lunch. Wednesday nights are crowded and noisy (Trivia Night!), but with the cold weather coming, Monday and Tuesday nights should be quiet. Weekend afternoons (especially rainy ones) are also great for tucking into a corner with an Irish Coffee and a laptop!
I'm not sure about any other potential places to set up camp, but I'm happy to do some scouting. Of course, if you have a favorite writing spot in town, let us all know!
So who's with me?

Well my mother and I live in Napa and this is our first year, perhaps we could do it, I'll talk to her.

Of course, I'm 18 and in school, and my mom's the proud life giver of four children who go to all sorts of activities which she drives us to. Anything we did would have to be sober, and after school or on the weekend.

Hi Dalmatia, I am in Napa (I think you had another response from here). I'm not sure how much I'll be able to participate this year, as I'll be out of the country "researching" my novel and visiting my daughter from Nov.4-19. I hope your group gets going, so that I can keep track of you-all and maybe join in during the last week or so of the month. I haven't been to the Barking Dog, but it sounds ideal - and of course, Murphy's is a great hangout.

Hmm... seems like we've got more participants over in Napa. Happily, I actually work out there, so we could just as easily invade one of your coffee shops or diners for a write-in or three.
Any suggestions? I haven't had this job long, so I don't know the town very well yet.
To anyone from Sonoma who happens by, the original invitation is still open, of course!

I'm really new at the whole thing of using a laptop, so I don't know where in Napa would be a good setup for writers. We have Peets and various Starbucks. Does anyone else know of a better place? Also, as I said, I won't be around until the end of the month.
