The Mascot has been chosen!!!

The NaNoRhiNo!!!

=========

We're so behind the times here on the other side of the world to those super-enthusiastic yankees. And like true Yanks, they have a mascot for everything!

Their baseball teams have mascots, their basketball teams have mascots, their political parties have mascots, their fast-food diners have mascots...

Their mascots have mascots.... hmmm.

So I am putting it out to all you creative-types. Think up what our Brisbane NaNoWriMo mascot shall be!

First year it ended up being a stuffed iguana and a toy monkey.

Now, hopefully our 'official' mascot will be part of Brisbane NaNo history. It will go on any and all press releases we send out to the media, it will be on any 'marketing' posters we put up at local cafes, libraries and universities, and best of all - this little guy will make it his/her/its SOLE MISSION to inspire you to write for an ENTIRE MONTH or until you reach your goal of 50,000 words!

So throw it at me. As plain or as crazy as you want.

Other regions have:
The WriMoSaurus (writing dinosaur?)
The WriMoTaur (writing MINOTAUR?)
Flying Lemurs
A coat of arms...

How's about it? Throw some suggestions and hopefully we can make a choice and get our new mascot before November starts ;)

Hmmm... How about a mini rhinoceros? NaNoRhino. :P

Then the 'unofficial adult version', a lil chap on it as well, with 'Inner Editor' on his top, with the rhino's horn up his arse, with a logo, 'NaNoWriMo - The month of [explicative deleted] the Inner Editor'.

Have a laugh anyway. :P

As anyone who was around last year and remembers the desperate pleas for kitten-homes knows, I am all sorts of well-equipped with cats. I can do a calico, tabby, or black-and-white mascot, no problem!

Or if you'd rather something that won't run away, American Chum has a nifty action figure of The Thing. We could put word balloons on him that say 'It's Writin' Time!' and things of that nature.

I can offer up a five-feet-long stuffed alligator (fuzzy, not scaly), and a very lively Abyssinian kitten. Pics of the latter here. Alternatively, there's the really ugly cat if you'd rather have something... scarier. ;)

If someone could design the mascot, if it's some sort of animal, or creature of monster or whatever ((I relaly like the NanoRhino idea)) I'm volunteering my mad sewing skills to make a little plushy toy of it up :D

We (the_zaniak and myself) have a giant plush penguin called Splinter. He has his own facebook, just search for "Splinter Aves". Add him as a friend and I guarantee he'll add you back.

Ninja monkeys have been an ongoing theme with us ;) Maybe we should have more than one with the way we're going LOL

Would be awesome if your sis could make a coat of arms up for us as well though :) We can have a mascot AND a coat of arms.

NaNoRhino FTW!!! lmao. That's a brilliant idea ;) Though I don't think the horn up the rear would be a good look when sending out press-kits to media ;)

That's why the second idea is the 'unofficial adult only' version. ;)

Even though I did give up alcohol last year, as NaNo and the Brissy summer approaches I'm feelilng more and more like a drink. How about the NaNoWino - lap top in one hand and a bottle of dutch courage in the other.

I'm in a fairly weird mood - so this is probably where the wino came from ... though I too like the Rhino :)

Okie doke, so far we have the following suggestions:

Ninja Monkeys
NaNoRhiNo
Kittens
The Thing figurine
Stuffed, Fuzzy Alligator
Giant plush penguin called Splinter
NaNoWino
Flying Coat of Arms

Now, I was kind of hoping to have a separate coat of arms as WELL as the mascot but lets just focus on the mascot for now then we can talk details of the coat of arms ;)

Votes please!

Hello,

I am really new here. I was thinking of "Creative Koala" as a mascot. On the cat line you could alway use miss muffet, our miniture devon rex www.miss-muffet.org

I also like the ones already suggested.

This is my first year on NaNo, so I am easy.

NanoRhino sounds cool. We could do a Rhino prompt and stuff him (or her) with our collective sentence or paragraph responses.

Hehe, thanks. :P

But we don't have any animals down here that sound like WriMo.

Could of course have the guy in my 'adult version' looking like Ned. >.>
