The NaNo kick-off this year will be Saturday, October 25th, from 5:30-8pm, at
The Salvation Army
3100 N Meridian St, 46208
Here's a map.
Parking information:
There is ample parking behind the building, and we'll use the back entrance. This entrance is locked, but we'll have someone stationed at the door until 5:45. If you arrive later than this, please call 224-1026 so we'll know to let you in. We'll also have the number posted on the door.
The kick-off is an informal party for local participants to swap story ideas, ease each other's frazzled nerves, or gather details for the part of their story set in the Salvation Army conference room (hm...).
We'll have banquet tables at our disposal, so bring colorful or out-right bizarre snacks, if you're so inclined.
Friends and family are welcome, as well as anyone else who would like a peek into the world of 30-day noveling (or who just plain wonders what you're up to with this NaNo business).
It promises to be a great time. Please let us know if you can make it, so we know how many to expect.

As I said in the intro thread, I'm out of town that weekend. But I do want to attend other gatherings/groups... let us know.

Will definitely be there. Missed it last year because of health issues, but I'm darned if that'll happen again! Woo!
UPDATE: Okay, crap, it looks like I'm going to have to be somewhere else at 4 p.m., and it'll last at least two hours. Nuts. Maybe I'll sneak in late ...

Yikes, it seems like everything in the free world is happening on that day. Side plug, it's Irvington's Halloween Street Festival. I am going to try and make it because this looks like a lot of fun. Sorry I missed Saturday; sister came in unexpectedly.

There will be other meet-ups throughout the month. You can take a look at the "writers group" threads. This is a social group that meets every Saturday at 5:30 downtown. Then there will also be write-ins, regular ones on Saturdays before the writers group, and others at various locations and times that will be scheduled later. There should be plenty of opportunity to meet with other writers during the month. And the writers group is year-round. :-)

I'm sure I'll be there, and will likely drag the novel-writing wife along, too. I'm sure she'll bring something edible, as she's always looking for excuses to make fun yummy food. :)

I'll be at the Irvington Festival, too! That's one reason the kick-off doesn't start until 5:30 ;)
By the way, it isn't necessary to commit to 2 1/2 hours for the party. We don't have a schedule set, but during the first hour we'll probably focus on introductions, how NaNo works, and a few tips for getting through the month. We reserved a large amount of time because we're a talkative lot, and it's nice to be able to split into smaller groups and toss around story ideas or more detailed advice.
If you can make it for the first hour, that's great, but by no means do you have to stay the entire time. We'll have plenty of chances to meet during November.

I'm there! I'm ending day one of my pumpkin carving party an hour early that day so I can be there. I will hopefully bring some kind of dip with veggies or chips or whatever. Hopefully. That's a busy weekend, so I'm not sure how I'll be able to fit a recipe in.
I'm hoping we get a big turnout this year! I want to meet this clan of crazies who are bent on creating literary masterworks in a span of 30 days. I've started going around saying, "I'm writing a novel next month." It's fun to see the reaction.

I will do my best to be there.
Should I maybe make a crock pot of chili? I can do vegetarian or meaty, depending on the demand.

Hey Jen, if you'll make some vegan chili (vegetarian with no cheese or dairy in it) I'll bring a big tin of vegan cornbread. That would be awesome since I don't own a crock pot, but I loooove chili (and I"m vegan. ;-) )

We aren't doing anything too fancy this year, so last-minute responses are fine. Thanks to all who've posted so far. And for those who can't make it, we hope to see you during the Saturday meetings next month.
