[STICKY] Challenge 2008 -- The RULES!

Rules for the 2008 Challenge: Team Lushguin v the State of Maryland

And please read the highlighted points--key to participation

Eligibility
• Texans: You must live within 60 miles of Austin or Houston. You may not come from another city that has its own Regional Lounge.
• Marylanders: You must live in the state of Maryland.

Sign-ups
• Notify your challenge coordinator (Breca_Halley in Texas or Tidewaterbound in Maryland) by midnight on November 3 that you want to participate---THIS MUST BE DONE VIA EMAIL ONLY—PM’s or posts do not count.

• You must provide your challenge coordinator with a valid email address. During the challenge, you must respond to any requests from your challenge coordinator within a maximum of three days so we know you aren’t missing in action.
• Your challenge coordinator will provide a “word count thread” -- so post in THIS thread--Challenge 2008 -- The RULES! to track word count. Participants will post ONCE to this thread when instructed by the challenge coordinator. When everyone has posted, the thread will be locked. Which means respond to THIS thread--JUST ONCE--so we can track your word count as we run continual tallies

Updating Word Count
• You must update your word count at least once every five days. If you are unable to update your count, contact your challenge coordinator.
• During the course of the contest, we may ask that you post your word count more frequently.
• You must input your final word count by midnight on November 30. After midnight, you will no longer be able to update your count.

Scoring
• You may drop out of the challenge at any time up to midnight on November 15 without affecting your team’s count.
• Only the official word count from the locked “word count thread” on the NaNoWriMo website will be considered when computing the final score.
• After midnight on November 30, the challenge coordinators from each team will drop the lowest score from their respective counts. They will compute the average score for all remaining competitors.
• The team with the highest word count average will be the winner.
• The challenge coordinators will compare results, and when both coordinators agree, the results will be posted on the NaNo boards.

Trash-talkin’
• Each team will have a clearly labeled “trash talk” thread. The Lushguins trash talk thread will be in the Austin Lounge. Trash talk is to be posted ONLY to the trash talk thread and should remain in good fun and within the bounds of good sportspersonship.

Our God-like powers
• MLs decide what “good sportspersonship” means.
• We reserve the right to remove folks from the competition for any violation of the rules and guidelines listed above.
• MLs are the final authority in any dispute or question about the rules.

Remember It’s All in Fun
• In the heat of competition, we sometimes forget it’s just a game. If you have a concern or question about anything regarding the competition, please contact your challenge coordinator before you post.

[STICKY] Donations to NanoWrimo

While NanoWrimo is a totally FREE donations are a must to keep the NanoWrimo machine rolling.

So here's the plea, donate, it's that simple.

Times are tight, that's a fact. Few of us have spare change to toss around (I see you nodding your heads already)--well, know this too. If you enjoy NanoWrimo, and take advantage of the challenge, the format, and all the support it offers, you can likely cough up $10-$25 bucks. For an entire month's entertainment and riveting challenge, how much is that?

For $25 that's less than a $1 a day, like .83.

For $10 that's just more than a quarter, .33 a day.

Do you stop for coffee in the morning at McD's? At $1.59 PLUS tax, you could make your coffee at home and donate $50, for 1.67 a day.

Few things are free, and the price of admission to NanoWrimo really is. Nobody makes you donate, but I'd like it to stick around for another ten years.

I'm betting, if nothing else, you can manage a $10 donation, even on that tiny collegiate budget, or if in high school, tap Mom & Dad if the allowance is short. Really, $10 bucks would go a long way, it's also TAX DEDUCTIBLE.

But if you could, that small $25 does great works, not just to keep the NanoWrimo machine going but spreads literacy around the globe. Do it, you'll feel glad you did -- besides, the halo is pretty cool to have too!

And just think of the junk food that maybe you skipped buying -- it's healthier.

It's an easy, simple step, please affiliate your HOME REGION as Maryland.

It's easy to do, and what it does is make every word you write count for Maryland stats. While you may not think this is important, it really is. We want recognition for our work, our combined efforts. I won't tell you about last year, but suffice it to say because many didn't know, we came "so close" but no cigar, simply because the "home region" wasn't designated by so MANY!

So take a sec and do this:

On the top link bar notice the "My NanoWriMo" -- click it.

In your profile on the left you'll see another link -- "Regions" -- click it.

It will give you tabs -- "Regions" "My Regions" and finally on the right "Home Region"

Click HOME REGION

Select United States-Maryland

Beneath it...click the bar that says SAVE HOME REGION

I'll be hosting two write-ins again this year at the Borders on 355 in Frederick. One will be Sunday, Nov 9 from 2 - 5 pm and the other will be on Sunday Nov 23 from 2 - 5. We meet in the cafe, have lots of food, lots of writing and lots of fun! I hope to see you all there!

I was thinking we could try to reserve the meeting room at North County library (or just show up. Official Trash-Talkin' Thread for Challenge 2008

Walks in the room, looks around, there's Caeraerie all chummy with Soluna (a BlueCrab transplant, but straddling the line, now into Texas) -- glancing around there are lots of familiar faces, and some new ones. Knowing this will be a new year, a new challenge that's all bright and shiny wondering how it will all turn out. Somehow though, I know one thing, both sides will be there for the other. Maryland and Texas have a special bond, now never to be broken.

So my personal challenge is to Breca (Rebecca) -- my aging, arthritic fingers have got to outwrite the youth. (I hate getting old)--LOL

Yes, we are back again this year. As we are far-flung, I'm considering newer ways we can connect for Write-Ins, some electronic, some not. As I'm on the Lower Shore and work hours preclude a lot of traveling, some may want to connect via IM chat at designated times. Right now, all of this is up in the air and subject to change. It's just because I want you to feel connected to our area of writers, and there are many of us.
