Good to see some familiar faces (well, usernames) again.
So let me check: have I bragged here for my latest story sales? No? So let me fix that. :p
- My short story "Dominion" has been sold to legendary editor (and winner of several Hugo awards) Ellen Datlow. It will appear in her upcoming cat-themed anthology "Tails of Wonder and the Imagination" due in February 2010.
Who else has stories in that anthology? Stephen King, Neil Gaiman, George R. R. Martin, Tanith Lee. And there's little old me alongside them!!!!
- My short story "Nosophoros", written during last years NaNo, won a Honorable Mention in the Writers of the Future Contest.
http://wotfblog.galaxypress.com/ (Second set of HMs: "Christine Lucas of the country of Greece").
PURRRRR.
End of brag. Stay tuned for future brags. We cats are *that* vain. ;)
(Edited because the flu ate my grammar). Argh.

Hello, I'm a newbie :)
I decided to join this year because the motto "It's better to lower your expectations" sounded really encouraging. I hope a deadline will help me get unstuck from my writer's block, I have the bad habit of starting stories (fanfiction mostly) and never completing them... As for the word count, I really doubt I can win but if I reach at least 20,000 words I'll be satisfied.
So, good luck, everyone!~

Hey there!
I'm a first timer here but it's good to see that Greece has representation already! So....hey all! *waves*
I'm not sure how this whole thing works and it's the first "competition" I ever participate in, so I'm a bit at a loss... Any pointers, tips, advice and other such synonyms would be deeply appreaciated :) And if there's any help that comes from inexperience, I'd love to provide it in turn!
*Bows curtly*

Try it and you won't be disappointed! Once NaNo starts, word wars are the best motivator. Personally, I like the 30 min word wars. Come join me some day. It's fun!!!

What a great "Brag"! That's what I need to hear. Big, big congrats!!! That is sooo great. And what a great brag it is!
Okay, so now I will really try. I've done this thing for 3 years but haven't a clue what to start this year. Guess I will find out tomorrow morning - 6 am!!
I'm in Galaxidi, if anyone wants to meet up around here. Anybody nearby?
And keep those "brags" coming!
On your mark,
Terry Stone

Hell yeah. Even if it's Saturday, I'll be DYNAMIC ENTRYING my way into this month with an epic five word... I mean, FIVE THOUSAND WORD streak. Seriously though, I'm screwed. I only have a very, very loose idea for a plot. But last year my carefully laid-out in minute detail plot led me nowhere... so I'm improvising this year!
I'm aiming for 5,000 for the first night. We'll see how it goes from there.
EDIT: Welcome to the fray, Geta! Added you as buddeh. Best of luck to you too.

I'm going for 5k too, but not on the first night. I would like to go to be before sunrise! I'm aiming for 5k the first day. Beginnings are always hard though, so I don't know if I can do it, especially since the most I've ever written in a day is 7k.
Maybe I can do a few word wars to get me going. Sleep is for the weak, right?

So I've settled for a - very general - plot right now. Got about six or seven of the more central characters down. Luckily the story I settled for has a lot of common elements to some idea I was brewing several months ago which never took off (was never really meant to, either), so there's some general stuff I can use. Can't write a synopsis for the life of me, though.
Well, I will initially aim for 1,000 words in the first 30 - 45 minutes. That should be a good goal, since for me as well, the beginning is a tricky part. We'll see how it goes from there. If you want to make it a challenge, I'm game.

I wouldn't provide much of a challenge, I'm afraid. The first couple of days of NaNo I manage about 1k per hour. If I'm on a roll. But I will be writing and I'll be back to post my word count before I go to bed, so if you want to consider it a challenge, feel free. Might just help me stay awake, because coffee isn't doing the trick...

Huhu... when doing a marathon, if you dash the first minute at full speed there's no way you'll be able to keep up through the whole race... each to his own pace. I do want to speed things up a little at first, just to get me hooked up into my story. But it's really all about how I'll be feeling at that moment - I might hit 5000 tonight, or just 1000. What matters is the end goal.
We'll see, starting about 2 minutes from now...

Ooh, look at me! 1,027 in 45 mins. That means 1,369 words per hour! Not bad! My novel is writing itself this year! Awesome! I'm going to take a little break now, but I'll be back for more.

1,310 in a little less than an hour. Indeed, I found it considerably easy to keep going once I started, and I have more in store for tonight. Here's to winning this year.
Happy writing.
EDIT: Going to leave it at 1,5k for tonight. Though I do want to write more, my mind is slowly drifting off, and to prevent kicking myself in the morning when I read the crap I wrote while half-asleep, I'll be going to bed now. See ya all tomorrow with moar writing.

Thanks, Terry!
Wow, you guys, you're on fire! Due to kitty problems I couldn't start until now, but I'm hoping for 2K until toning. However, my main objective is to write as many words as I cas, as long as those are words I'll be able to use afterwards and not just keep them in a forgotten file in my PC. It worked last year, so I hope that this year it will work as well.
Happy Writing, everyone!
Christine
PS
BTW, I'm in Athens and still up for a meeting, if anyone's still interested.
