I've noticed there isn't actually a Newcastle region available, so I'm presuming it falls under Sydney.
Are there any wrimos out there, other than myself, stranded two and a half hours away from the region we're registered to?

I live on the Central Coast too - not as far away as you poor Newcastle-ians, but still not quite Sydney.

But come on! We're writers! We can think of a better name than Newcastle-ians!

Hey guys!
I am in Newcastle (Wallsend, to be precise). I have also posted an intro in "Elswhere" - I think that is where a few Newcastle-estians (hehe) were hanging about last year. Anyways, as far as intros go, I am a high school teacher, dad, and occassional writer. I am currently working on at least one friend to participate in this event, so there might be enough of us to engage in a "write-in" or other activities.

This is, technically, my second NaNoWriMo, but last year was such an abysmal effort I will speak no further of it. I have cleaned up my desk in anticipation of plenty of writing, and am now just trying to come up with an idea or two for my story. The problem isn't that I don'e have an idea, but have too many!

I'm from the Northern end of the Central Coast and would love to attend some writing events in Newcastle if we can arrange something.

Then we should organise something. Suggestions?

With a couple of kids I don't get out to too many coffee shops these days so I don't know which would be amenable to an invasion of writers (or would have enough powerpoints for laptops). Libraries might be an option, though I don't know where we would get coffee! I know the Wallsend library is very new, has little conference rooms and is open late weeknights (well, late for a public library - 8pm).

Who is keen?

Another Newcastle-estrian here. I'm in Woodrising. Also picked up the contact on the Oz Outer Limits list.

I'm keen. I'm also available some school days as well.
I haven't checked out Wallsend Library yet, but I know that there is plenty of room and power points at desks in the main Newcastle Library. And no coffee grinder noise there either.

Hello! I'm in Newcastle (not too far from wallsend) as well. I was so disappointed we didn't have our own group, but I do admit that I laughed when "Newcastle" was the first topic I saw here... Glad to see other Novocastrians out and about :)

I'm certainly keen for a meetup. :)

Having a look at some options around Newcastle, and Wallsend Library does seem like a pretty good one - good facilities, close to public transport (for folks like me who need it), right across from the shopping centre to supply food and coffee needs... not to mention there seem to be a fair few Novocastrians who live fairly close. Anyone else have any suggestions?

Greetings and Good Luck My Fellow Novazorostians!

I'm very keen on a Newcastle meet up,

I am based in Hamilton in Newcastle and Wallsend library would suit me fine. Any idea of time and dates?

I spend a fair amount of time hanging out at Newcastle Uni and there might be potential for a "write in" at the University Union or in the Library as well. Of course, close proximity to some world class junk food outlets and "Pinkies" the Uni's famous lolly shop does not colour my judgment at all....

Sup y'all.

Alex here, long time nano-er, no-time winner. Yet. YET! This will totally be my year. Just have to avoid the mid-month demotivationals.

Wallsend could be good (though I'm thinking no food there, right?) but as it's already one of my regular haunts I can't say the Uni library doesn't appeal. Or the Hub. Either or. Aside from that it'd have to be Goldbergs or Starbucks or some other cafe type thing and whilst I think there are few enough of us interested in a meetup that that could potentially work..... well. It depends on how you like your background noise for your writing, I suppose.

Hey neighbour,
I'm close by, there's always out the back of one of the cafes on Beaumont St, or the Rolador - although that can get a bit noisy at times - at least he coffee is decent.

Hey guys. Looks like either somewhere at the Uni or Wallsend Library are most popular. My major concern would the availability of power outlets (I am assuming people are laptop-ing). I don't know how many power outlets are available in the shortland union / brennan room. Uni Library or Wallsend Library are much of a much-ness, like to have plenty of powerponts, but both limit food options!

For sheer closeness I would be happy with Wallsend. I also think (don't quote me on this) if we're descreet and don't make a mess, we could eat in the "study" rooms (or whatever those glass booths are called). However, I am more than happy to consider elsewhere.

When, would be the next question. If we are talking libraries, weekends are not brilliant. If we are talking 24-hour Maccas, anything is possible! I would suggest a 2-3 hour period on a weeknight would be a good option, so we don't go so late as to ruin work the next day and don't use up weekends that might be otherwise busy.

Let's keep this discussion going and try to organise something for early week 2, when apparently we will all need some inspiration anyway!

Oh woot, Newcastle people!
I'm kindof Newcastle area, Swansea?
Almost on the CC border really. Woot.
But yes, I feel good now, knowing that there's others in my area doing NaNo.
This is my first time doing it, last year I was going to but I was in the middle of the sea, and was slightly busy staying afloat. I probably won't get it done this year either, I started yesterday after totally forgetting that November had started.
Haha.
Well yeah. That's it from me.

I ducked into the Wallsend library today to check a suspicion I had. There is in fact a vending machine full of chocolate, chips and softdrink in the library (in an alcove near some photocopiers). So it is likely that there wouldn't be too much complaint about a takeaway coffee or the like, either. In the interest of just getting this show on the road, let me suggest;

Newcastle Write-in:
Wallsend Library
Monday November 9th
5.30pm till they close (8pm, I think).

Who is interested?

Double post. Sorry. I will take this opportunity to edit and say how totally excited I am about NaNoWriMo and the fact there is a bunch of Newcastle, Central Coast and Hunter Valley folk participating. I say we make a lot of noise and fill up this thread and others with our awesome ideas and experiences, to show how vocal, enthusiastic and friendly a bunch we are. Then in the future they might choose to lock us away in some other spot!

Hi,

I live at Belmont and work at Wallsend. I could make that next Monday if it goes ahead.

It's my first NaNo and I think I'm spending too much time thinking and not enough writing. I'm falling behind :-(

Thanks for kicking the ball off Nathan. I am a starter next Monday night at Wallsend.
Its a funny thing, although this is my first real try at this speed writing, and my word count is still sluggish, I am starting to get the hang of it I think. My story is certainly taking a very different track to the one I expected four days ago. Do you think there is a market for young adult romantic horror?
I look forward to catching up with some of you next week.

Jim

PS Hang in there Rubia, I also expect to fall behind this week . That's why we have 4 weekend during this month to let us catch up!

Rubia - Just write, don't think!

Jimbot - a market for YA romance horror? It will never catch on! ;)

I will be at the Library next Monday. I will claim a little glass room and try to remember to bring a power board for extra laptops. I hope to see lots of you there!
