Let's take a break from all the calamities our country is facing and let's bring in something good.

IT'S NANOWRIMO 2009!

Well, preparing for it. :D

To those who were wondering, I live in Cainta, so we're one of the people affected by Ondoy. I'm at our place in Ortigas now, trying not to think of the mess that we still have to clean up at home after the flood and instead thinking happy thoughts like NaNoWriMo 2009.

So hey! If you're here now...hello! Introduce yourselves! Newbie? Not? Come one, come all. :D You're welcome here. :D

Hulloh!

Frank here, Third World Writer, and last year was my first failure. With the many things piling up with office work and org work, I'm bound to fail again this year, but considering how much fun last year was, I'm looking forward to failing this year too! =)

I don't have a story idea yet, but I'll try to figure something out. Last year was an attempt at fantasy. This time I'll probably try something more realistic. =)

Cheers!

Heyyyyy. ♥

Mia here, and this will be my second time doing Nano. My first try was last year, and I just barely made it a few hours before the deadline. What else... apart from writing about imaginary characters in improbable situations, I occupy myself with LJ RP, inconsistent art, bloody gaming (or I would, if I could actually get to the shops) and that thing called grad school.

I live in Antipolo, so it's one of the areas affected by the flooding too. Currently sitting in my bedroom listening to the sound of the rain. I hope everyone makes it through this safe and sound.

For you I'll burn the length and breadth of sky.

Okay... I just posted a newbie post over an hour ago, I think in the 20s Age group forum, so I won't be repeating all of what I've already said there. Medyo mahaba eh..

Anyway, I'm Jen. First time doing Nano this year. Very excited.

I've fixed on a plot for my story, I think, but I'll need a more detailed outline. I've tried practicing forward typing (fanfiction.net story) for about 3 weeks but wasn't very successful. Even with the 6 the lines in Neo 2 I still scroll up to check what I've written so far. Quite a challenge in itself. Granted that I can spew around 1.6k words a day, I'm sure I could do it in half the time if only I could get rid of the this damn editor's hat.

Oh, and Hi to all! =)

Frank: Welcome back! :) I hope you have as much fun this year AND win too. :D

Mia: Welcome back to you too! I'm glad to hear you're also safe. I live in Cainta and ..well, it's not a pretty story. I am probably going to use this experience for my NaNo though, which still has very little story and just random ideas all around. :D

Jen: Welcome to NaNoWriMo! You're the first newbie to make your presence known, so yay! Looking forward to reaching 50k with you :D

Oh goodness, I'm so used to seeing my word bar in purple along with many other's and then seeing now that it's empty like everyone else's, I'm in a little bit of an "DDDDDDDDDD:" mood.

I was just lurking around last time although I've spoken a few times with Ms. Tinamats here but maybe this time, I'll be a little more active! Hi, guys, my name's Liv and I reside in Quezon City so my chances of being one of the lucky 20% who survived Ondoy's flooding was pret-ty slim and yeah, our house did get flooded. >.>;; But only 'til the first floor and thank goodness for that! The entire time we were recovering from the tragedy, my mind was going, "HOGOD NANO" and then I remembered that we still have a month to go before it so whew.

I joined last year and was, as I stated, a little bit anti-social but I started breaking out when I was nearing the finish of my novel. Last year, I wrote a novel entitled "Red Babylon" (up at http://redbabylon.livejournal.com) set in Tokyo, Japan and it's got things like guns and crime and everything else that comes with it. :D That was a little bit on the real world so this time, I'm going to write an adventure story set in a slightly fantastical world with no plot whatsoever. Go plotlessness!

Excited to see a lot of us starting to spring out like this. <3

Hello!

My name is Kat. This is my second year over at NaNo, hopefully will be able to win this time. I'm from Makati, and just escaped getting flooded by a measly four inches!!

I'm excited for this year---so far my topic is turning out to be quite a joy to map out. I'm trying literary fiction. That is, unless another idea strikes.

*R-Truth voice* PinoyWrimos! What's up?! */R-Truth voice*

It's your boy Emjay here, going for my third year and hopefully my second win in NaNo. I didn't win back in '07, won last year, and geared up for this year. I'm now residing in Marikina which was featured heavily during Ondoy's mess (our house is not among those unfortunate ones that were underwater) and currently a freshman in UP Los Banos, where suspension of classes due to calamities is as likely as finding a living dodo bird (a.k.a. I got spared from floods and classes will be suspended when an entire tree goes down).

My interests are very diverse from wrestling to rap to Power Rangers to Tony Hawk video games to NBA, etc. I was also a participant in World Youth Day 08 in Sydney which is something I am very, very proud of. For more on me, visit my LJ page http://metaclipse07.livejournal.com/

My story is about... you guessed it, Power Rangers! Months have been spent on planning for this piece and I have to say I'm psyched to be here again.

*Zordon voice* PinoyWrimos, good luck and may the power protect you. */Zordon voice* =D

Hi!

I live in the Katipunan area, but fortunately, our house was built on one of the hilly parts, but the flooding was a couple feet high outside our house. Hope everyone who was affected is safe.

As for me, this'll be my third year in NaNoWriMo, and while I'll try for a third win, between overwork and overstudying (taking an MA while doing a full-time job), I'm not too sure I'll manage it.

Still, willing to help where I can, and join write-ins when I can.

I'm starting November in Cebu, but only the first couple of days. Hopefully the beach will get me writing.

I'm planning on doing a sequel to my as-yet-unfinished 2008 novel. (I've plotted that one out, so at least I know where it ends and who my characters are by the time this one's supposed to start.)

Cheers and good luck to us, and let there be no more storms this year.

Hello everyone!

First off, my sympathies to those who got affected by Ondoy. Hope you're all okay now. :)

This is my 2nd year attempting NaNoWriMo, and I'm actually freaking out right now. Frankly, I'm teetering on the edge of sitting this one out, largely because I do not know if I have the time. Just moved to a new company where my work is bloody busy - even eating up my weekends!

Plus, I have three novel ideas in mind and I can't decide what to go with. *lol*

But what the hell, I might as well give it a try than regret it later. I attempted an epic fantasy last year - man, that was hectic - so this year I might do something simpler. :D

Mabuhay, fellow Filipinos!

I like to go by the name Miss. It's quite funny if you address me with a formal title, eh? I'd be a Ms. Miss! Anyway, I'm a female teenager residing in a suburban town within Laguna. I'll be attempting to throttle NaNoWriMo's 50,000 word requirement this year with a young adult fiction in mind. I best hurry up with my planning — I've got less than a month to get my things together!

To all of those affected by Ondoy (and Pepeng now, too), I wish you all the best with recovering from the disaster... Ondoy was certainly a scary thing. We have this nearly barren creek beside our property, but during Ondoy, it surged, bringing along fallen tree trunks from the mountainlands nearby, sending my nervous system all awry. It quelled before the waters could reach our level though.

Despite all, I'm with you guys about being eager, yay! My excitement is off the charts for this upcoming month of furious writing too, it's my first time attempting NaNo properly. Good luck to all our aspiring authors! Hopefully, unlike my nickname, this year won't be a miss :P Hurhur, delightful pun-making!

Hi, Writers!

I hope everyone is safe. Quite a month, huh? My name is Gary Alan and this is my first year joining National Novel Writing Month. I am SUPER EXCITED! I work as a freelance copywriter full-time so I write on a daily basis, and as creative as I try to be in my profession, copy writing has its limits. Writing a novel has only been a dream since childhood but life always got in the way. I had a life-changing crisis happen in July. I am now okay but I have redefined my priorities. I have been working on my Sci Fi/Fantasy novel since July, researching & putting together a bible. However, I will be putting it aside in November and start fresh for National Novel Writing Month. Why? Because I want to experience just letting loose my creativity on a blank page without worrying about consistency, continuity, or even grammar. At the same time, I hope to raise some money for the Young Writer's Program.

Oh, I live in Marikina City, which was hardest hit last week by the storm. We thankfully were spared.

Congratulations everyone for joining. :-) Would anyone be interested in doing something similar to Write-A-Thon: A Night of Writing Dangerously and get together apart from the Kick Off Event planned? Sound fun!

Your writer buddy,

Gary Alan

Hey Liv, Kat, Emjay, Liana and irizhia! :) Welcome back!

Hi Miss! That is a really interesting name. ;) If it's any comfort, most of us probably don't have a full plot yet, so you're not alone.

Hi Gary! Welcome to NaNoWriMo! :D Life-changing stuff are always good material to use for novels, yes? Plus it's a good sort of release. :) And thank you for volunteering to raise money for YWP too! We're still a bit too young a region to fully get into that, but who knows this year, right? :)

I like the write-a-thon idea. I've been toying with that idea too. We'd need a good place and goodies and other preparations to do it though. If you have any suggestions/ideas, let's talk about it and we may actually find a way to make it happen. :D

Hi,

I'm Kuyerjudd (and I use that as my pseudonym, too). I'm sixteen years old and I've been writing since eight, and I wrote my first novel in a notebook then. It's tattered and torn, and the penmanship is perfectly illegible, so its of no financial use but I keep it for inspiration. I blog (http://myheartupclose.blogspot.com). I post mostly poetry but I try to get my hands in the prose section, too. My favorites are Fantasy and Sci-Fi, as they are lengthy and well descriptive -- but only as I read. When I write, I have no specific genre to base from; I figure it out as I progress.

This is my first time participating in NaNo. I've read so much about it and I thought I should give it a try.

I have a monster of a plot in my head and it's aggitatedly gnawing away in the far reaches of my thoughts! :)) Can't wait to write with everyone.

Mabuhay, everyone!

Hi! I'm Ria. We got flooded with Ondoy here in Paranaque. Entire first floor submerged. But we're almost back to normal now. :)

Joined NaNoWriMo in 2007. I knew I had a lot on my plate that year, but I told myself I could do NaNoWriMo nonetheless. After all, "if you want something done, give it to a busy person," right? Guess what... I couldn't do it. :P I didn't win that year. Joining again this year, but hoping to win this time. :D I'm thinking of doing either an Other-World Fantasy Romance, or a Detective Romance.

Good luck to all of us, and let's have a bit of fun writing!

Hi Kuyerjudd! Welcome to NaNoWriMo! :) I'm kind of envious that you have a monster plot already. Mine's still hiding somewhere, I have to coax it out. Haha. I'm sure you'll have a fun time this November!

GIBOYYYY. Are you going to write your novel in Filipino again? :)

Gionisio: Hey, I remember you! When was the last time you joined? 2005 or 2006? I'll join your friend in persuading you to join...come on now! Haha it'll be fun.

Hi Ria! I know the feeling of "almost back to normal". We're almost like that at home, we just have to replace some furniture. Haha. I didn't win on my first year either -- schoolwork killed my novel -- but I was determined to win the second time around and I did. Hope to see you with a purple bar this year. :)

Hello, I'm EK. I'm back for another round of this insanity. (And more Chuck Norris?)

Unfortunately nothing much happened to the Nano stuff I made from last year. It was all terrible, in the end, and not much of it could be used. Oh well. I hope I finish something more coherent this year.

Yeah, that's it right now. ^^;;

Hello, hello, hello~!

Funny, I was just thinking about the forums here a few days ago and lo and behold, new threads! And new people! *waves to them newbies* Hi to the oldies as well =P

I go by many names, but I will respond to Mi. I live somewhere in the north where Ondoy and Pepeng didn't do/bring much damage to our place, thank goodness. [To those who were affected, I hope that every one of you are safe and sound now <3] I first joined this crazy thing called NaNo back in 2007 and won, to my surprise. Same thing happened last year, and I hope to win this year as well. Also hope to contribute to this year's anthology/compilation--if MLs will plan one again and if my shyness doesn't get the best of me, ack.

I still have no definite plot in mind but I am warming up to the idea of a short story collection. Makes my life easier because I won't have to cram 18271879 ideas into one novel and then wonder how I ended up writing such atrocities when I go back to edit it, ahaha~ XD But we'll see.

Aside from writing, I have a bunch of other interests/hobbies that either inspire me or serve as a breather. But that is another story. Hope we all have a fun and fruitful November together~! =3

hello people of the philippines!

inez here, aka illustria. miss you all! had a great time at that special EB we had last summer.

i hope you're all ok, and safe and warm. doing my best here to get fundraising efforts underway for typhoon relief.

-and now, a shoutout to the EB people follows:

yes, i tried reading twilight. now in second book because my roommate told me to read it. oh help meee.....it's badly written, the characters are cardboard cutouts, and i imagine nothing when reading the books. such paper-thin plots and stories would do well to never the see the light of day, but as it stands, paper-thin is what the public PRESUMABLY loves.

I hope to be above and beyond the paper thin. I also hope all the writers in NaNo from the Philippines will employ actual storytelling skill. My apologies to those who like Twilight...but really? best seller?

*silent ranting*

in any case, i have no real plot yet. perhaps a little stroll through fields of poetry will do me some good. hi to all the Nanos, especially those who have been here for quite a while. been here since 04, and it's something i look forward to every November.

wheee

Not an EB person but I'm one of those people who openly hates Twilight...even if I haven't read it yet but my sister showed me an excerpt of Edward dazzling and I asked her, "Did you or your friend write this when you were in high school?" 'cause then, it'd be acceptable but I think Meyer is beyond her high school years...way beyond.

Also, I hate Twilight for inspiring the book blockade.

And I hate Twilight because they have awful make-up skills in the movie.

But yeah, whenever I see a row/stack/mountain of Twilight books in like, Fully Booked or NBS, I really say outloud "Oh my God, what is it doing here occupying space? Let's burn it!" secretly hoping that there would be a Twilight fan around to hear it.

>.>

<.<

My hate is unjustified but unshakable.

I's my first time but I decided even if I didn't finish I hope I put in a satisfactory number of hours so I feel I did my best. Also, at least you get a few pages done. Who knows what it could turn out to be? ;-) Good luck this year!

Hey all! :D

AJ here, second time actually participating in NaNo (I "tried" in 2007, but that didn't even vaguely resemble a serious attempt). I died last year at around 30,000 words, but am hopeful that the start of a college semester will be easier on my novelling time than the end of a high school trimester. :D

Other random facts: I like penguins, love cheese, and am about the snarkiest person you'll ever meet. \m/

Regarding Ondoy/Pepeng, we thankfully made it through okay. Second floor FTW. Have been going to relief efforts in school, which has been really fulfilling, and also served as a workout for my nerd-muscles.

Hi everyone,

It's my first time doing NaNo... and I was so excited that I couldn't wait until the 1st of November and decided to do an off-season NaNo, just to see what it was like. Currently in my 3rd week, and so far, so good! Hopefully I'll have enough juices left for another novel for the real NaNo :( Mga lightweight attempts lang naman... no literary masterpieces in my near future :)

Speaking of lightweight, I feel compelled to defend Twilight. I don't think it ever styled itself as a classic. It's a young adult romance, and I think it should be read in that spirit. Good entertainment, lots of kilig moments, vampires and werewolves, what's not to like? :) Happy to have it on my shelf beside weightier tomes.

Haha! well yes, to each their own.

I wasn't saying that twilight was trying to style itself as a classic and was thus not living up to its promises. i came into it with few expectations, all of them low. and i still haven't felt the romance, kilig, and stuff that i'm supposed to like. and to think that i once wrote a vampire story, hehe. i guess the style wasn't engaging enough. there are lightweight books out there that are still well written (the Little Prince is actually lightweight, but its meaning goes far beyond its simplicity).

twilight isn't. it feels rushed, and descriptions are poor. i usually judge the excellence of a novel on its ability to make me imagine worlds, and its ability to make me sit down and write. twilight didn't do either, which is why i don't like it (along with dan brown's work). i do like crichton, however, and his ability to weave science into fiction (RIP, kuya mike). still, i sometimes feel betrayed by lightweight books, because they seem to be akin to junkfood. i want books that i can sit down with and digest slowly, hehe

anyway, in the middle of fundraising stuff over here, so tatakbo muna ako. shall also be doing research for november. yahooooo!!! sana maraming info on venetian history online. hahahahaha!

Hey nissygrl ^^v

This early you have to know that we're all really nice people...but the greater population of us tend to either openly hate Twilight, or hesitate to read it because of all the haters. That said, last year some writers did do Twilight fanfics as their Nano project, and they're still fine with us.

Just ignore us if we go on a bashing spree, okay? Just wait for the Chuck Norris sprees instead. ^^;;
