I started playing Dungeons & Dragons Online not too long ago (my main is a Level 3 Ranger on Ghallanda server) and wanted to see who else was planning doing NaNo this year.

If you're doing NaNo and want a distraction, play DDO it's free. yay advertising >.>

Do you have to know anything about D&D? Otherwise I might just join this intriguing game. :O

You don't HAVE to know, but I played the pen and paper game beforehand and it sticks closely to the 3.5 edition (the latest one as far as I'm concerned, but I won't get into that), albeit set in the Eberron setting (you don't have to know about the setting either, but their website has some history and background info which I have read a little). For each class in the game there are 3 paths you can take so as not to be too confusing to the newcomer, and if you like it, I'd suggest going from there and picking up the pen and paper game.

*BING*
here, I am playing DDO, too. My main chara is on Cannith server, though. Started to play it one or two weeks ago, but I have several characters to find out which one suits me best X) (and to be honest to collect shop points a bit more quickly for unlocking the Warforged, too XD )
I played and still play Pen & Paper DnD, one campaign taking place on Faerun (Chara: Githzerai) and a second on Eberron (Chara: Warforged).

I'm on Khyber. If anyone else is on that server, let me know and we'll group.

Aww none of us are on the same server. XD I dunno, I might reroll...

But I've never played in a PnP Eberron or Faerun campaign, but I do love my Psion/Telepath. =}

Hmm. One one hand I would like to suggest to look for a server noone is on yet and create new characters, but on th e other hand do I have to keep in mind that there is a certain hurdle called "timezones" >.< Have to think about that suggestion ;)

Oh PnP Eberron & Faerun campaigns are fun. The faerun campaign is written by our gamemaster and right now, I love my new chara (since my old one died)... Githzerai Ninja/Warmage/Disciple of the Dragon X)
Bad thing is that we cannot play PnP that often anymore since two of the group had to move away for studying and apprenticeship :/

I just recently started playing DDO. I'm on the Thelanis server. I'm really enjoying the game so far, and if someone suggests making characters on a new server, I'll totally be up for it, providing we can get time zones resolved. ^_^

I'm on the East Coast but I play at all times and am up for rerolling on a different server if we get enough people. If someone is VIP we could get our own guild going. =D

i play on Cannith with DraconNoctem, my current character is a human fighter who habitually kills everything that moves with a giant maul. It's awesome :-D

A NaNo DnD group would rock, I'm all for it, if we get past the obstacle called timezones...

Well, if we can get past the europe-america-timezone-obstacle, i would like to suggest Ghallanda as server for our group.

And @ Azure-Quill: If you don't mind having more than one character, you can group with me and mermaidbia on Cannith-Server, but I fear you would have to do the Korthos Island part alone, since we're already in Stormreach ;)

If we do make a group, what server? I already used up all my slots for Ghallanda. >.<

But any of the others would be awesome. I was thinking Thelanis but if anyone has any suggestions I'm game.

I have no chara on Thelanis yet, so I'd be fine with that :)
If anyone of you has xfire: you can add me if you like to see when I am online and playing DnD. Username is (big surprise) draconnoctem, but don't get confused when there appears the nickname Shadow ;)
Using xfire could maybe improve our ability to coordinate setting up a group, just as a thought.
For those who don't have it: it's a free messenger that works also in-game. Just google for xfire and you should find it ;)

@Azure-Quill: do you have certain times for playing DDO?
Oh, and my main character on Cannith is named Kadrell (ranger3/rogue1)

@Dracon: What timezone are you in? I'll try and work out if there's a convenient time, but anytime from 5PM to 8PM GMT should be okay on weekdays, 12PM to 8PM on weekends if not.

Out of curiosity, what's the conversion to Easter Standard Time? And does Daylight Savings Time play a factor?

I'll probably roll a Cleric, I haven't done that and healers would always be welcome. XD

Eastern Standard Time is GMT -5:00, but the Daylight Savings Time is confusing me at the moment. I think at the moment, everything taken into account, it's still GMT -5:00, but that may change on Sunday. :/ It depends if EST time moves backwards as well at the same time, and I've got no idea if it is.

Is anyone else better with time zones? :D?

GMT is British time, isn't it? If it is I am merely 1 hour in front of you (GMT+1; timezone of Berlin and so on, don't know the name of the timezone) and 6 hours in front of the east-coast time if America didn't decide to have another date for switching to the winter-time like the last years (quite handy if one has friends on the east-coast XD)
5-8pm GMT is 6-8pm here. I have no problem with that time since i have plenty of time at the moment XD weekends are a bit tricky since I have on several weekends pen&paper DnD. And when my knee is better I'll have training on Mondays and Thursdays. ;)

Just 1 hour? Neat. :D It might be a bit of time before I deem my character good enough, though. A nasty problem cropped up involving an attempt at multi-classing, only to find my character a Level 1 Ranger/Level 1 Sorcerer unable to cast spells. I'll probably start a new character that's more magic driven.

As advice, if it's your first character I highly suggest you DO NOT pick a magic class. They have almost no soling ability (clerics being exceptions, but I don't group them in there as they are divine casters) and no health so once you're out of spell points all you are is a squishy target.

I picked a sorcerer as my first character and felt so useless that people had to lead me everywhere so when I'd go on and couldn't find anyone I'd have to wait by myself and try to solo and die a lot. So I deleted that character because I wasn't having fun with it, and made a ranger instead, which I enjoy a lot. To satisfy my wanting to cast, I also have a bard which is a jack of all trades who kinda does everything: some dps, buffs, backup heals, etc.

Also, rangers are divine casters (starting at level 4 anyway, but they're more melee than anything, I hardly count them as casters to be honest), but combining them with arcane caster is a bad idea. In fact, as a caster multi-classing in general is a bad idea.

You don't have to take my advice but as someone who's been there I'm just giving my opinion and hope it helps.

Also, I rolled a dwarf cleric on Thelanis by the name of Sigruna, I'm in Korthos right now but by the weekend at the very least plan to get out of it. Feel free to friend me!

@TorturedArtist: Yeah, I tried playing a sorcerer, but it just wasn't as much fun as a fighter. I didn't even get out of the starter cave. So I deleted and chose a paladin instead. Hacking stuff up with a massive axe is just so much more enjoyable. :D

Legionofwolves, what's your timezone? You might be able to join a party with Dracon and me at some point (if that's ok with everyone involved, of course).

By the way, I'm Tahine, Level 2 Paladin on Cannith if anyone wants to know. :)
