Announcing the Evening of Scribbling Recklessly! This is our answer to the Night of Living Dangerously, since I know most people here in Nashville can't go to California this year.
What: A six hour long, prize filled, crazy write a thon!
Where: 2300 Knights of Columbus Drive || Nashville (Near the Airport)
When: Sunday, 22 November 4-10 PM
Admission:
Okay, guys. This is a big fundraiser event for NaNo. So, there's going to be a little bit of an admission fee.
It's a TEN DOLLAR donation to get in the door - cash preferred, or checks will be accepted. Please note. Part of the money will go to pay the room rental fee. But the location is huge and we have parking and it's all ours.
Also, because of our limited (read that as non-existant) budget, I'm asking that everybody bring a finger food-ey side dish to share. Remember, we'll be stuck there for six hours, so I'd hate to have you waste away to nothing.
-
With that all said, here's some other stuff.
Right now, my goal for us is a final word count of 50,000 words for the day.
Just to put in perspective how easy this goal is, if you can write the daily word count in under 2 hrs, that means each person can write about 5,000 words in 6 hours.. We'd only need 10 writers to make that goal. We can so do this!

I'll be there! I'm so excited about this! I'm a freshman at Belmont who came from a small town in Illinois, so my past three years doing NaNo, nothing like this has been available to me. It's going to be a whole new NaNo experience, and I can't wait ;)

wahhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!! I won't be able to do it. Our final performance of the local Nutcracker (staring myself as one of the parents and my daughter as both a mouse and one of the Mother Ginger kids) is that night at 7.
Due to rehearsals and what not I may not be able to make any write ins and stuff.... :( I will have a finalized calendar well before November....good thing is the studio has WiFi so I can take the laptop and write during her rehearsals. (and post)

Sounds fun.
Nearly every gathering I have been to in Nashville is a pot luck. Must have something to do with running around with broke songwriters. Seriously, we even have a pot luck and a song circle when someone dies.
So it's totally appropriate that we're sharing food while writing. For me, it's become synonymous with living here.

Well, if you'd each like to pay about $40, I'll cater dinner. :p
I think you're right about the broke thing. Starving artists can usually afford finger foods for something, but dinner out somewhere is another story. I figured for this, a low minimum donation was a good plan, bring munchies (because really, I'd rather graze all night than eat a catered meal), etc.. I want a packed room. Seriously, I want it more than I want NaNo to get a donation.
And seriously, $25 to BONGO JAVA. Who here (besides me) doesn't want free coffee goodness?

Okay, for the rookies among us...
I'll assume I need a laptop to participate?
How do prizes work for a scribblefest - door prizes for simply showing up? Most words? Best hors d'oeuvres? Ugliest T-shirt?
Pencil me in, though I've still not decided on a novel topic yet. Should have one (and 30,000+ words) by then, I s'pose.

Well, you don't *have* to have a laptop to participate, but I would imagine your arm would get tired if you wrote longhand for six hours.
I'll have tickets for various reasons (paying the $5 donation and bringing food to share like you're supposed to do each get you a ticket!), and you can buy extras for $1 each. (Remember, these are for NaNo!)
During the event, I'll interrupt you guys every hour on the hour to draw for some of the prizes. (Laptop users should really take a break once an hour anyway)

It's in the Green Hills Mall, near Sephora. They do specialty loose leaf teas and tea making items. Their Pina Colada blend makes a kicking iced tea.

Sara - the smell actually makes me sick.
But, for those of you that aren't into some of this stuff, don't fret... When I do door prizes, I'll lump together everything for, say coffee shops and cafes, and then draw a ticket and give first pick, etc.. So you have a good chance to pick something you want. :)
We have a TON of prizes!

I asked today, and they have chosen to not play nice with me.
In fact, the manager was less than pleasant about the whole thing. So boo to them.
Actually, most of the places there (Green Hills) sucked ass and wouldn't give me anything.
It was really annoying.
But, did get movie passes and I have a couple other places that I have to call back, so I might get a few more. :)
