So I have some ideas about what to do this year, but I want input from other people as well.
Things to think about:
Word Wars
Challenges
Prizes
Dates for Parties
Where should write-ins and meet-ups be held
What days of the week are good for you
Do you have contacts with the press
Any fundraising ideas
I shall be at the C.C.'s on Jefferson Sunday, October 11th to discuss all this and possibly MORE with anyone who shows up. If no one shows up I promise to still freak out the baristas by acting as if people have joined me. Maybe. If you can't make it, please reply to this post or send me an email and let me know what you want to get out of Nano this year.
I shall hopefully be sending out a mass email to the group shortly. There's a bug that needs to be worked out so all ML's have been given a cease and desist command until further notice.

I'll be there! Freaking out people in public places is an honored tradition during NaNo and I feel it best we begin practicing now. Don't want our skills to be rusty :)

What do I want from NaNoWriMo this year?
Two words.
All-night Write-a-thon
Think about it. It would be great.

I'm gonna have to miss the planning meeting, unfortunately. So someone had better send me notes damn it. I'm flying back from Wyomming at 6 pm on sunday. I leave wednesday morning, 5 am so Oct 7- 11 I will be MIA. But still dancing with joy. I am also totally in for Dylan's all night write a thon. How cool would that be? Just make sure it's not on a day where the next morning my office will be subject to me and we are good. I'm pretty sure my boss is counting the days. val

Oooohhh.... all night write a thon... I like it! But, Dylan, you're going to have to get back in Nano mode and forget all that Academia has tried to instill in you since last November. It's five words if you take out all that pesky hyphenation! ;)

Fabulous! I'm so glad I'm not going to have to start breaking in the baristas on my own.
And all night write a thon, huh? Nothing difficult or anything! We'll have to brainstorm for locations and things.
I'll see you all on Sunday, my ML steno pad in hand. (Yes, I make notes as I read my ML Guide to Life and the ML forums. This is my ultimate geekitude.)

Hi! Marty Manuel (udab) here.
I have been involved with Nano the last two years (both times completing my 50,000 words).
After finishing last year I took off a month and then started re-reading what I had written. Strangely enough, it started to look salvageable so I began writing on it in earnest. I am very close to finishing my first book which I hope to have out by March of next year.
Originally I had decided not to do Nano this year, but after reading everybody's comments I've got the fever again. I love being able to write outside the proverbial box, have no idea what I will write about this year, but plan on having a lot of fun writing it!
I hope to see you all on Sunday!

I won't be able to make it to the planning event, but I will be planning my NaNo and looking forward to word wars.

Unfortunately, I doubt I'll be able to make it this Sunday, but in the future Sundays are always going to be the best days for me to participate in a meeting/write-off/whatever.
I couldn't really be involved with the community last year, but I'm looking forward to getting caught up in the madness this year!

Hey, SUPER SORRY, but I've been called in for some pre-training stuff for my new job from 12pm-6pm, so I won't be able to attend the planning meeting. Here are the things I'd like to propose:
Super awesome Kick-off PARTY (Not just a meeting)
All night writeathon
Weekly word wars (with challenges to out of state groups!)
Possibly weekly adventure write-ins at nonstandard locations (and not at a cigar bar!)
A super awesome "Thank God It's Over" party
Weekly ML pep talks
Possibly a BR NaNo website (I think this would be a great idea. It could also serve as a central point for all LA NaNo activities.)
A STATEWIDE EVENT! (I've always wondered about the other LA groups)
My dream is for NaNo to become a really large event this year. I've read the stories about Seattle and San Fran's events, and I think we can do better than them!
REMEMBER, RED STICK WRIMOS ROCK!

I'm not going to be able to make the meeting either (rats!), but I second Dylan's request for weekly pep talks from our ML. I think there should be prizes for word wars, too (besides the joy of beating down the chickens--oops, I mean Elsewheres.)
I can't drive for medical reasons, so I'm at the mercy of other people when it comes to events like this, but I hope to make at least one meeting this year!

Not sure I'll make the meeting but second the website idea and willing to help if I can. This is my fifth year, didn't make it last year due to having a psycho Principal interefering with my real world, which is writing lol, looking forward to giving it another shot. Patsy

Haha, Patsy, I was surprised when I saw your username because one of my good friends in my previous region was "bttrflywriter". Clearly she wanted the same username as you, but you got to it first! :D

THANK YOU to everyone who showed up today!
We had eleven people sitting around and talking about the coming month. We've got some dates set and on the Google Calendar. Times and places will be finalized in the coming week.
Be on the look out for lots of posts here in the next few days, dealing with all the things we talked about at the meeting and more!

Awww - I really wanted to go to the meeting today - but my car is kind of crappy and I couldn't really take the risk, but hopefully I can attend future events - I'm really looking forward to it. ^_^
