I mean, really, how else do you get to know people round here?

To kick it off, I'm Daniel Shawyer, your local jack of all trades. I write, draw, digital paint, 3D model, play guitar and will soon be composing music.

I forget what else...

Oh yes! I'm studying my first year Games and Interactivity at Swinburne. Go Swinburne!

I'm also a fantasy buff, voracious reader, and a Christian.

That's me intro'd!

Lets here the rest of ya!

Oooooh my brother is looking to get into that course next year.

I am Cecilia, Arts/Education student at Deakin. I write a lot, I read a lot, and I do a bit of P.O.D designing.

I like everything, except the stuff I hate.

Edited to delete odd double-posted signature.

Oooh, I write lyrics!!! Lemme know if you ever wanna collab :)

Um, so yeah, I'm Rebekah, a 28 yr old SAHM of 4 boys (ages 7, 6, 3, and 5 mos). When I work, I'm a Legal Assistant, and when I don't, I wish I was:p Obviously I love writing and reading. Almost done with Cassandra Clare's "City of" series at the moment, and I love it! Oh, what else...

I dunno, I guess I'm pretty boring other than that... I have no life:)

I wrote a nice long reply to this and then when I posted there was a database error. Grrr. So this time I'll keep it short and remember to copy my message first! :D

I'm Lolita (Lola/Lollie), I write (obviously), I draw (badly), I photograph (again, badly), I blog (yes, I'm even bad at that), I listen to music as often as I can, I play clarinet and sing (and do both at a very sub-standard level), and I think I may have self-esteem issues looking back at all the things I love to do but do so badly.

One thing I do well is my job (sometimes). I'm a casual relief classroom assistant at an autistic school :) I manage to sustain many injuries there - but I adore working with the children so much I can't help but love my job... even when it makes me want to tear my hair out.

I only just live within the boundaries of Melbourne, otherwise my count would be going to country Vic - w00t! Seriously, I'm just a few houses back from the border. It's delightful!

As always I'm rambling and this has still ended up longer than I intended.

Oh yeah - that's right! I'm a chronic rambler. :)

xxLollie

I'm Bella, Official Melbourne NaNo Underager (also known as 'Illegal Nipples'). Apart from writing, I love costuming (historical is my passion). Not sure what else. I've recruited a few people for NaNo this year, who I'm gonna try to drag along to the kick-off/write-ins/drinkies if I can!

Hello!

My name is Jessica, 19 years old, and I am almost finished (does a dance) my second year of primary education at Monash. I can be seen at most Wednesday drinkies sitting next to a blonde girl (steph) and attempting (and failing) to light matches.

I’m an avid fantasy reader and am currently making my way through George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series, which is amazingly good. I also love knitting.

I’m aiming for (well) above 50,000 words this year, but will settle for 50,000 as I am leaving for Europe on the 24th (does another dance) only 50 more days to go!!!!

Hi all! I'm Abbie, and I'm back for yet another year of writing terrible fantasy. I'm the owner of two crazy dogs who like to help or, depending on the day, hinder my nano writing.

Hi All,

I'm Hybrid J as I'm the first of my kind ...

I'm a newbie to NaNo, so be gentle pls ... :)

Obviously I write but in order to keep the wolves at bay, I also work 4-days a week :( Otherwise I read, doodle and drum.

I don't think I could make it to the drinkies as Wed night is my Djembe drumming night. As of write-ins, love to attend, but I know myself well - I write best alone otherwise I'll just chat and chat and chat ... So I guess I'll be there with you all in spirit. :D

Cheers,
Hybrid J

Hey hey hey! I'm Steph, aka Knight of Ni, aka Mad Dog.
I love animals, good books, good food and sleeping in late.
I'm currently in my first year of Arts at Monash Clayton (which generally works nicely with my love of sleeping in), planning to major in linguistics and zoology.
What little money I earn comes mainly from dog walking and dog traning, with a bit of childcare and tutoring on the side. They're pretty much all the same thing.
I won't be reaching 50,000 words this year because almost as soon as my exams are over I'm heading off to Africa *joins Jessica in doing a little dance*. I look forward to seeing some of you again / for the first time before I go.

Hey all - Lofwyr here, preparing to do his sixth year of NaNo! I knew I stocked my annual leave up for a reason! ^_^

Yes, I write (though possibly not as well as some) when I'm not working at Dick Smith and trying to find somewhere else to work, and when I'm not on the Wii or wandering around the internet. I'm also our ML's husband - she's in class right now either doing her group presentation or listening to everyone else's.

*waves* I'm Cha. This is my first-time attempting NaNo, and I'm a bit scared about it, but people keep telling me I'll be fine. I've not written much fiction before, so this could be interesting.

In the real world I'm a Research Assistant in Ecology. I spend a lot of time pretending I'm not in the real world, mainly through computer games and roleplaying.

I also spend a lot of time drinking tea.

Hi, I'm Matt... the Wonderdog. I discovered I was the Wonderdog while drinking pints of ale in an English Pub. ...

I've been doing this thing since 2002. A friend emailed me on October 30th and said hey! Look at this! WIth 1 and a bit days notice, I beat out 52k words on the first go. IT CAN BE DONE!

Since then, done it each year, passed each year, fkn loved it each year.

I am the owner of Ripley, the Nanowrino, our more official mascot. Recently he aquired a partner in crime... a Wombat.... heh. There is video footage of those two...

I have a writing degree.. a copywriting course completion thing... and am currently not working in a field I enjoy.

"Franz Ferdipants, interstate man-of-mystery and purveyor of fine wombats. I do a lot of things and I do them classy :D"

This is true... and I dont know the quote function so :P~~

"I'm Bella, Official Melbourne NaNo Underager (also known as 'Illegal Nipples')."

This was scary, and hilarious at the same time.

Hi :) I'm Erinkyan, I'm 24 year old queer poly disabled Leather trans man, and this is my first Nano (although I've suffered missing all my friends in many years previously as they've done it). I'll probably be spending most of my Nano procrastination time loitering on the Erotic Fiction genre forum.

I'm on a disability pension and spend most of my time organizing events, watching tv & movies, cooking (love good food, wine & spirits) and bumming around on facebook. :)

My name's Ben. This is my sixth NaNoWriMo and second in Melbourne. Failed everytime but keep coming back for more... remind me not to get so insanely drunk on cup eve this year.

I work full-time in an office. It's dead boring, but I don't do any work. We just moved office and I was sure to find a desk that means my screen faces away from managers hence increasing my writing time by 37 hours a week :P

I spend a heap of my time writing, blogging, being a socialist, and going to protests. Yes, I am Melbourne NaNo's token commie.

I write dark and violent stories about capitalism. This year it's some sci-fi/fantasy/horror thing about after an apocalypse... a bit different to what I usually write.

Oh and I like taking photos.

Salut! I'm Marie, a uni student for tax purposes, but really a wannabe detective/receptionist/author/layabout. Although having said that, you will often find me quoting feminist sociology and denouncing literature and the media for their distorted portrayals of the roles of men and women... and yep.
I mostly read fantasy - sometimes read literature - and I usually write some variation of fantasy/litfic or surrealist litfic or something that turns out unclassifiable.
I've been doing Nano since 2005 - failed once and not failed since! I look forward to November every year, and the moment on the 1st of December when I look proudly on another pile of useless, brilliant literary garbage.
I also say "fruit!" a lot.

Hi!

I'm Ebony ... with the very unimaginative pen name, haha. I'm 20 years old and I have nothing to show for it yet. So thats why I'm at Deakin uni doing a creative writing degree. Oh yeah this is my first Nano... I'm not sure I'm going to have 50,000 words in me after all my assignments.

I have a cat called Gizmo anda venus fly trap called Audrey, which shows the essence of my nerdiness off.

I'm pretty sure I'm MrBen. Lemme just check what it says on the side there... Yes, yes, definitely MrBen. I'm a programmer, graphic designer and rather poor writer. I've done nano thrice and won thrice. Coincidence? Perhaps? Conspiracy? More likely. I'm thinking I slipped the judge a $50, got 'im to look away for a moment and then put a "5" at the front of my word count. But this is just between you and me, smashed hat.

I'm Lauren. I'm your ML. All shall love me and despair. No, wait, that's Galadriel. Whoopsie. I look nothing like her; of the LotR characters I more closely resemble one of the hobbits, both in appearance and temperament (and in, uh, rotundity).

This will be my seventh NaNo and (hopefully) my sixth win; I failed at 23K my first time out in 2003, but to be fair I'd just gone through a horrific break-up with my ex and was having trouble managing real life, let alone writing.

I just finished my Grad Dip in Editing and Publishing at RMIT about six hours ago with my final group presentation, thank goodness, because it was very time-consuming. Now I have my nights and weekends free again I can relax at last. Oh wait, no I can't, I have you mob to whip into shape as the most awesomest region ever. Oh wait, you already are. *relaxes*

I work in publishing, but am being made redundant at some point in the next three or so months, so that will be interesting, where by 'interesting' I mean 'aaaauuuugggghhhh'. Hope to find another job in the industry and have already had a couple of interviews, which is not bad when you consider the current job market plus the fact that publishing is a hard field to get into, etc etc etc.

I have three cats, four goldfish, one husband, and I forget how many toy wombats, including Walter, Ripley's special friend.

I'm Yuhan, AKA Kel'daryth (or Kel, or K) on the web - it's about the only nickname that's stuck which is funny given he was a Baldur's Gate 2 character who was around for about 2 hours...

I appear to be the host of the Melbourne Cup Day write in after starting it last year and I have a well equipped kitchen for cooking, snacking and roasting of foodstuffs.

I do random crazy things during NaNo - last year (my first year) I decided to blitz a sequel to a novel already written (but sadly, not polished or published) and somehow scraped through 50K with predefined characters and a locked in plotline. This year I'm rewriting a Sims online story that took me 5 years (including Machinema chapters) and trying to make it into a workable (and publishable) prose story. It's a gay romance with a fantastical gothic element to it. Kinda.

Yes, I am a boy, yes I like boys, yes I have a boy. He does backflips.

I also write and perform Musical Theatre (to date 1 musical, Wonderful Day), and tend to perform musicals other people have written because more of them get produced. As a result of the last one, I am now qualified to teach people how to walk in high heels (apparently, I look good in red).

Other than that, I've just started working for Telstra (which is an amazingly awesome company to work for - but then, compared to my old job... hmm...) love computer games, and would have applied to Bioware and defected to Canada if Telstra hadn't hired me first. I also like cooking, dancing, singing, hugs and roleplaying. Currently I'm being a big furry werewolf in a game with Lauren, Lofwyr and Cha.

Hey, I'm Steph

I graduated with a Creative Arts degree from La Trobe (though pretty sure the course doesn't exist anymore) and have spent the rest of the year 'finding myself'. So far, all I have found is that working in retail is slowly turning me into a twisted and bitter person (though it does provide amusing anecdotes for writing) and that I really, really need to get back into regular writing before my brain turns to mush!

Besides working in retail, I'm also keen to work in the publishing industry and am currently interning with a literary agent (I think I prefer reading the work of others than writing my own haha).

This will be my first NaNo and right now, I'm pretty excited (despite not really knowing what I'll be writing, except that it will be YA). My writing background is predominantly in non-fiction, namely film criticism. I have a weird memory which enables me to remember excessively trivial film facts and yet, when asked, I can never recall my postcode.

Hey! I'm Lou or Laeni, and I don't write.

Yes, I just said that. Expect me to knock out maybe 100 words under 'peer pressure' (last year I did it at drinkies so that Talea would write!), but seriously, that's it. I've failed every year I've been involved in NaNo but I have had fun each and every time! I'm the bar you MUST clear. That is: you're better than me if you write 2000 words, because that's the maximum I've ever written for a NaNo novel. lol. I get lots of teasing and shit for it but honestly don't mind. =b lol I'm defintely more of a cheerleader (maybe I should make a costume...?) than a participant.

I'm here for the fun times, and because I enjoy leaving my house and being social every so often. Expect cookies! Winner cookies! That's write, if you win and show up to the End of NaNo party you'll get a cookie! =D WHO DOESN'T LIKE THAT INCENTIVE?!

Well I'm back, even though eveyone from past years is probably thinking 'not another newcomer'... I am Sarah, or as I have previously been known on the forums, Kaidela. However, a change in email address has seen a change in usernames.

Just to give you guys an update on my life (or an overveiw for the newbies). I'm currently studying Arts(International Stuides) at Deakin, and working like.... Three jobs? As you may have guessed, I'm actually out of melbourne limits as I have moved to geelong this year. However, you're going to have to drag me kicking and screaming away if you want me gone.

Anyhow, I obviously write... I also listen to a lot of music, and work way too much just to keep a roof over my head (note to all the underagers here: total independence sucks at nineteen). Other than that I tend to spend my time playing mario cart with my house mate, and drinking (occasionally at the same time). As such, see you guys at drinkies!

Mmm, myello, people of Melbourne. :D I'm the friendly resident crazy cat lady (yes), 19, Melbourne uni dropout and currently on the hunt for a job.

What I do with my real life is read, write, stalk people on facebook and bait people into having deep and meaningful conversations with me over msn (sadly, so misunderstoood).

I have never completed nanowrimo, usually due to a lack of persistance, but I did get through a scriptfrenzy the first time they did it (20k in June, rather than... whatever it is now in April).

During school, I was renowned as a foreign language nut. I have a greater interest in more sciencey things though. :D Later on, I would love to study Arts/Languages at Monash. This is because I am inherantly lazy and feel sorry for people who do physics. Therefore no science for me unless people pay me.

I would also love to learn to play the guitar, or the drums, but my musical skill has not evolved past being able to guitar hero a bit (which, before the flames arrive, I know is not real music). It is good fun to try whilst drunk.

Best wishes to all, and hope we kick butt! :D

Ohh, yes. Name-wise, people call me Katie. But I go by a variety of nicknames, including Kittie, Turtle and KT. I dare you to say that outloud without making it sound like the first name or a French pronounciation of the first name.

Tata, lovelies.
