Hi ho!
Okay here's the deal. You guys should RSVP HERE if you're coming so us MLs can estimate and prepare the number of goodie bags to be given out during that day! What do we do on a kick off party? OOOOOOOOooh. Well, we have fun and meet other Nanowrimo-ers in Singapore! Let me give you the details below:
Location: Earshot Cafe , The Arts House (drop at City Hall MRT)
Time: 2pm-4pm
Date: 31st October 2009, Saturday!
This year our kick off party is part of the Singapore Writers Festival! ALSO, A BONUS BOOK LAUNCH! Some of us Nanowrimoers wrote stuff and it'll be part of the programme. Cake will be provided so bring tupperware if you want to bring some home! Seriously, we always have a lot of cake especially since this year's should be pretty big...
OH AND ONE MORE THING!
Dresscode: Undercover
That's the theme of the SWF and that's the theme of our dresscode! Read into the theme on your own, heck you can dress up as an Undercover Tai Tai (heh, heh, local book reference) or a wizard being undercover as a muggle (WHERE IS YOUR WAND?) etc etc. It's Halloween so have fun too!
Quizzes, games and PRIZES to be had if you're coming so make sure you RSVP!
Ps. This is an all ages event, if your parents wish to come with you to make sure we're not creepy people, feel free to bring them along!
Pps. You might want to check the http://www.singaporewritersfestival.com line up too to see what other talks and panels you want to attend that day.
EDIT:
For those who're wanting to know about the book launch, we're launching a book entitled: Happiness at the End of the World.
It is a collection of eight short stories united by a common theme: happiness at world's end.
The Project began out of a desire to see happy endings instead of misery literature and a need for Singapore speculative fiction. The Happy Smiley Writers Group decided to come up with their own science fiction anthology of happy endings in a worst-case scenario. Each story features a different take of the theme in a variety of genres and settings, which range from a desolate space station to worlds ravaged by constant war.
Feel free to bring lots of friends and those who love stories and books too. They are more than welcomed to attend. Just for this event, it'll be at a discounted price of $15
EDIT2:
Nearly forgot, it's at EARSHOT CAFE, so yes, there's free cake and goodies but you'll have to buy your own drinks. Or they might get frowny at us. Cost for a drink is... well the same range price as how cafes pretty much are. That is all! It's not insane expensive drinks there though, thank goodness.
And as usual, Nanowrimo will always be freeeeeeeee.

It goes without saying that I'll be coming right? I have yet to decide what to come in as seeing that it's also Halloween. (Candy? Please?)

I'll be there of course. I might take the whole undercover thing very literally and come in a duvet cover. My sisters will be here for my 50th birthday and they went shopping (at home in Ireland) to buy posh dresses for a gala dinner the Irish are having here in Singapore on 6 Nov. I gave them a description of a dress to buy for me, covering all the big wobbly bits and keeping things modest and the response was "So you want us to buy you a sparkly duvet cover then?" My family humour. But under the duvet seems like a good interpretation of the theme undercovers.

I'll be there. I also have an album by a band called Undercover which is largely covers of famous songs, in case we need music in theme.
If anyone wants to know why I have the album, I bought it for Gerry Rafferty's Baker Street and I'm sticking to that story.
No idea what I'll dress up as.

Ack. This term my schedule includes classes on BOTH Saturday and Sunday from 1pm to 6pm, so I won't be able to come to the Kick-Off...or in fact, anything at all.
This makes me sad. Ah, damn.

Hello!
I'll be there!
Finally! After 4 years of missing all the kick-offs and TGIO parties, I'm finally Nanoing back home in Singapore! (And not in some dreary room in winter)
And I guess I don't need to dress up (since all of you have to guess who I am =p)

There's a dress code this year? Neat :)
Looks like my idea of wearing a blanket has gone out the window... although a duvet is much to warm to wear in this weather.
I think the kick off party is at the same time Neil Gaiman's giving his talk at the SWF... at least those of us that didn't get tickets get to party! Woo! :D

It is! But then, hahah it's not like everyone got tickets for that slot so yeah. So it's all gooooood. Plus, you're not allowed to sneak in without a ticket else the venue for that one will make people with tickets frowny.

Probably turn up as Una.
To those who don't know Una, that's the point.
Cy'all there!

Hello! (:
I'd love to be there -- but would anyone notice if I'm a tad late? Say, about 1430?
I shall be undercover as... the tardy one. Nothing beats hiding in plain sight.

Sure! As long as you're here before 4pm when it ends or at the very least 3.30pm if you don't want to miss anything in the beginning with all the stuff.

I'm torn between attending this, and going for Neil Gaiman's talk on the same day! I'll most likely pop by after the Gaiman event, and I'll see if I can spot any of you guys around.

Um, shouldn't it be the other way around? Ours start at 2pm and his at 3pm. Our "talkings" and such will end about 3-ish and then it's mingling and book signings and such from the second part of the programme. So really you won't miss much if you come early and then leave early from it, that way you can at least get the goodie bag and such because we're having to pack up and such from the location by 4pm.

Yes you can! Please do come! You'll receive the nano goodie bag packed by us and the stickers the HQ in the US sent us too! Bring a friend or two if you're shy! And no, you don't have to book or pay anything. As long as it's nanowrimo, it's FREE. Oh and we just want to know your RSVP so we can prepare the number of bags and candy and stuff.
