I just moved down here for University. Fantastic city, fantastic people and many a perfect place to lose yourself in the writing lol.
Just wondering if there's anyone else doing NaNo in the area?

Hey there Forevers!
I'm also in Cardiff - there were quite a few of us the last couple of years so hopefully they'll wave sometime soon. :)

Hi Nilyn! *waves*
Am soooo sad not to be in Cardiff this year and missing out on Shot of The Dark laptop conventions! :( Will be with you in spirit as you aim for the 500k mark.

Hullo all, and a big hullo to Forevers and Jarofdirt and all other new 'uns. (Or ones I have not yet met.)
Really looking forward to the new Nanowrimo. Still not entirely sure what I'll be writing, I have a fair few ideas but they won't gel as of yet. Bah. I'm thinking of writing a sort of magical realism thing revolving around the North of the late 20's and 1930's and about famed industrial artist L S Lowry and about real life houses and people dotted in a painting of his that obsess a man.
Most of all I'm looking forward to those Shot in the Dark sessions again. I've recruited another member for Nanowrimo as well, my friend Sue. Sadly Drew from last year is down in the county somewhere in the depths of England - though I believe he is Nanoing from afar, he can't attend this year. Still, I hope they'll be a tidy bunch of us drinking the cheapest coffee and rubbing red, raw eyes around the table.
Pete

I'll be doing it to. I went to Cardiff University and loved it so much I stayed. I've only just heard aboout this madness, but, it seems perfect for me to get my arse in gear!
Looking forward to sharing all the trials and tribulations with you all.

I'm from Cardiff too. I hope I'll make it to a write-in or two but I don't think it's likely.
Where are everyone's favourite places around the city to go and write? I love writing in IKEA - 85p for a cup of tea you can refill all day, bargain! Rabiotti's on Penarth seafront is good too.

Shot in the Dark is THE place to write Nanowrimo, and not only because it's stupidly near to my house. I also recommend Coffee #1 on both Albany Road and the one next to central station. I used to live in Grangetown, just for a year, and apart from the IKEA cafe and the nearness to the Bay I'm struggling to think of places there. However, if you ever fancy some delicious, cheap food go to the Vegetarian Food Studio's near the bridge that's next to Brains Brewery, Grangetown side. I'm not a vegetarian myself, but I can't get enough of their cooking. In the Observer's top 5 UK vege restaurants. (End plug.)
Chapter Arts in Canton's good for that sort of thing as well, though they are refurbishing at the moment I think. I also find Terra Nova on a quiet evening quite comfy for a read, so I guess that'd be good too.
Hope you can make it too!

I'm a Cardiff-dweller as well.
This is my first year participating, hence this question: Where/What is this Shot in the Dark place? I'm assuming some manner of coffee establishment. Although I lack both a laptop and a coffee addiction, I might be able to borrow one of the former in order to meet up with fellow NaNoWriers.

Hi guys.
A few of you might remember me from last year *waves at fellow Shot-patrons*. I'm going to need talking into NaNo this year. I graduated in July, am working as a Christmas retail temp, and have just lost all passion for everything. So, who's up to the challenge? I've just counted and I have 22 days to get some kind of enthusiasm back.
I live much nearer to Shot this year, though my work schedule is a bit mad and I don't know if I'll be able to reliably make things. But I'll give it a try. Just thinking about it is helping me want to get back into it, so perhaps this will happen.

Hullo Kaymera!
I guess the thing is to key yourself up to at least start it, and then see how far momentum takes you. I wouldn't worry too much about finishing, there's no shame in not completing Nanowrimo - just violent beatings. Aheh. That way if you find it's not meant to be, then you can always retire, but if some idea plants itself in your noggin' then you might find yourself hooked again anyway.
Hope to see you in Shot in the Dark, anyway! Good luck!
Hullo DifferentlySane! Yep, it is a coffee shop, and a rather nice one. Don't worry, it does nice tea and beer too. It is at the end of City Road where Newport road meets, just head past the Ernst Willows and you'll find it a few doors past. Hope to see you there too.
I've got my plot idea now, and I'm pretty happy with it. Can't wait to start!

Hello to wrimos old and new :)
Unfortunately I'm too far away from Cardiff to make the write-ins...*sniff* as I am without transport.
However, as I haven't officially decided if I am taking part again this year, I don't suppose it matters!!

Ok...I'll get my naysaying in beforehand - pref any night except Thursday (but thats just a pref)
Are we thinking of Shot in the Dark? or a weekend meeting in town? (just to really complicate things ;-) )

I'm not from Cardiff but I'm living in Aberdare and doing my MA at Cardiff uni so I'm there two days a week. I've been meaning to do NaNoWriMo for the last few years but what with one thing and another have never got round to it. I'm in the middle of buying a house at the mo and looking to complete the first week of November, but I'm damned if that's going to stop me this time round!
As for meeting up - I'd love to. I'm in Cardiff Mondays and Wednesdays so those days are preferable for me, but I'll see what everyone else suggests.

Hmm, how about Wednesdays then?
I would quite like to Shot in the Dark it again, as I really like that place. ("And you live insultingly close to it and are very lazy," - ed.)
Not sure about other cafe-bars in the centre of town. There's Nos Da in Riverside, which is pretty nice. It's on the river opposite the stadium. There's a new pub called Gwdi Hw's which seems friendly. There is also Coffee 1 near the station and on Albany Rd. I'm afraid I'm sort of still opposed to big chain sinister mega-global coffee shops like Starbucks, boo-urns. There's Chapter Arts up in Canton too.
Any thoughts of any others?

Shot in the Dark isn't too far from me... I should be able to find it (hopefully without getting lost). Most days are good for me, so whoever has decided they're going to be in charge of organizing can decide.

Wednesdays are definitely good for me, especially as I go to an open mike night every 3rd Monday. Shot in the Dark should be pretty easy to get to from uni. I may have to leave a little earlier than everyone else to get the train home but that shouldn't be too much of a problem.

So it's looking like Wednesday at Shot in the Dark. Are we looking at this week or next week, and what kind of time are we thinking?
