Ok, I'm going to make some executive suggestions and we can adjust from there.
1. Sunday write-ins 2 pm at Cloud Forest Cafe, 222 D Street. They have long hours on Sunday (unlike a lot of places), and I'm told they have wifi. :)
2. Wednesday write-ins, 6 pm, Crepeville, 3rd and C. They have never bothered us about staying long hours writing, and they have good food, wifi, and plenty of outlets. Farmer's Market Wednesday nights ends at Halloween, so no problem with big Wed crowds.
3. Friday write-ins, 6 pm, 3rd and U Cafe, 3rd and University Ave. This is a new one for us, and can shift it if it doesn't work, but on Fridays they have bottomless fries, so I feel like that is reason enough to go there. ;)
Anyone want to offer different suggestions, or additional write-ins?
Tara

I've never been to a write-in before, but I really want to go to one this year! ^_^ I've only ever been to Crepeville (once) of the places you named, so I can't really speak as to locations. I'd definitely like to try and come to a Sunday write-in. I'll probably show up late to a Wednesday or Friday one if I can make it at all. Hopefully I'll be able to make at least a few write-ins this November! :)

These all sound like terrific ideas, Tara. I miss Davis, and I definitely plan to swing by at least one of the Davis write-ins this year.

Purple - write-ins are fun, you definitely need to come to one. Expect geekiness, food, bottomless coffee/tea, and even some actual writing. :D

Hi,
I'll try to connect with you all at some of the write-ins. My writing cafe of choice in town is Mishkas. I know there's lots of students there but I've been going there on and off for years and I like the music. See you all soon, D

Hi D - Mishkas is nice, but it is almost impossible to get enough space for 4-8 people (our average write-in attendance). Maybe their new place will have more room, but that won't be built for a while.
I forgot to suggest Barista (5th and G) as a place, the owners are nice, the food is good and cheap, they have wifi, and good hours. But, we can try the places suggested, and go from there. We can always adjust! :)

I would be willing to try Barista, I hear good things there.
Mishka's, on the other hand, is always always always always full. (The emptiest I have seen it was during a horrendous rain and a blackout and they couldn't even serve anything, and they were STILL 3/4 full.). It's just not at all good for having an indeterminate number of people with laptops dropping in and out and needing table space, especially when the only free tables tend to be the ones where they don't allow you to do any work.
(Can you tell I've had a lot of issues having meetings at Mishka's? Not that I'm biased or anything...I was in a writing group last year that petered out and died, and every time the other girl wanted to go to Mishka's we had major issues finding seating for two, even without laptops.)

I plan to see you all there, because I plan to be writing out of Davis this year (visiting jenfullmoon for a few weeks in the beginning of November). If I get a teensy say, I vote for Crepeville since it's been years since I had one of their crepes and I am drooling thinking of the eggplant one.
There's a cafe on 3rd and University? And did Cloud Forest Cafe replace where we had wrimo in 2003 and 2004?

Glad you'll be joining us Jess. We'll expect to see you at the Crepeville write-ins, for sure. :)
The 3rd and U Cafe is in the place of Cafe Roma (Cafe Roma was there until 2002? 2003? Later? Not sure).
And Cloud Forest is just south of the hotel and Cafe Bernardos.

Yeah, the owners of the Roma buildings kicked Roma out and replaced it with a new cafe. Sigh. (Oh well, E Street's got replaced by a Peet's.) I can't remember what was in the Cloud Forest area when you lived here, it used to be a toy store.

As this is my third year now in Davis, I'm going to try to come out of my introverted shell and attend some write-ins. I'll probably be showing up to the Wednesday ones at Crepeville and possibly a Friday one or two. Huzzah!

I'll try and make some of these. I didn't do NaNo last year because I was busy settling in to life in Davis... I also didn't do NaNo in 2007 because my advisor would have killed me for working on a novel instead of my master's thesis. :P
We'll see if I can juggle being a second year Ph.D. student and writing a novel this year. I miss it, so I'm going to give it a shot.

I'm so excited about these write-ins. I think it will be really helpful for me to write next to some other people. Physical proximity to other committed writers sounds great. I'll definitely be there for the Wednesday sessions...
Looking forward to meeting you all,
Brooke

Having been to Barista finally this morning, I can vouch for it having the free wi-fi, and good cheap sandwiches, and being mostly empty so people can wander in and write whenever. Cool place, defintely one to keep in mind for whenever we are pondering write-in locations. Just wanted to let y'all know.

fwiw, I'm planning on being there Sunday, Nov 1. I figure 2 pm is plenty late to have recovered from whatever Halloween festivities we might engage in. :)

Just a reminder - set your clocks back Saturday night after you get back from Halloween festivities (or maybe before, so you don't forget) - otherwise you may be showing up to the write-in an hour early. I think. Could it be an hour late. The time changes always bend my brain a bit. :)

Early. We're falling back, which means we go through the one o'clock hour twice, thus meaning that the clock will say 4 when it's actually 3.
(To be honest, the takeaway hour in the spring is worse. Late sucks.)

Oh Cafe Roma, how I miss thee. I wrote my first novella chunk almost exclusively in that cafe my freshman year. As I recall they were forced out in 2006.
This is my first WriMo, and prior to this year, I had no idea it existed. So we'll see how that goes. I'm currently a grad student at UCD, but I live out of town, so I hope to be able to make a few of these meetings. Sounds fun. Cheers.

btw - Maybe this is obvious, but anyone can schedule a write-in anytime. If you happen to be heading to Common Grounds on a Monday afternoon, and want to give a shout-out on the forums, do so! You may just be joined by some others with similar schedules.
