Because I remember there being a thread like this last year, so I doubt all of you got up and stopped doing NaNo (oh like people STOP doing NaNo, amirite?), so since I'm not a Rutgers student myself, here's the topic for us. :3

First off, I'd like to have an on-campus location where we can have write-ins. Being a freshmen I'm not too sure of any of the good spots, so any upperclassmen know of good places we all can meet up? :3 Also days of the week and times best for you guys would be helpful as well.

And secondly, to get some convos rolling or something past the write-ins, what is you...
Class Year? Major/Intended Major? Are you on-campus/commuter? If on campus, what campus is your dorm on? And anything else you can think of.

I'm, as I said above, a freshmen, and currently undecided. I'm on campus at Cook/Douglass.

So let's get some talking going? x3

Hi! I'm Tracy! I go to Rutgers, also :D

There's some pretty good places around here. And if anything, the libraries are obviously the best places to work. I work at Alexander even. They have some nice study lounges.

I'm a Sophomore, this is my first year for NaNoWriMo, and I'm pretty excited.

I'm a Pharmacy major, class of 2014! I live on College Ave in Hardenbergh, one of the river dorms.

Hi guys! I'm Karin and I live in the suites on Busch. And I'm like Tracy - sophomore in pharmacy :]

@ tracy - How'd you think you did on the orgo exam? did you start studying for physics yet?

Back to Nano .... the student centers all have quiet lounges - the college ave student center has a reeeeaaally nice lounge on the fourth floor with sofas :] and the food court iin each student center is also good if you're like me and dead silence creeps you out :P lol

there's also the computer labs on every campus, but they're always packed during the day :( i personally like the computer lab on busch the best, the one in ARC, especially when they open the side rooms, because the side rooms are usually much emptier and have larger tables :]

Hey guys I'm Rachel ^_^

Like Jaime I'm a freshman and we have two classes together :D I'm currently undecided for a major as well but plan to go into the teaching program... probably for math and english if i can do both <3 it's my dream to study english in japan for a few years so hooray for dreams!!! xD uhh I commute but i live right in highland park so i have like a 10minute walk to the harrison/river road bus stop on the L and its easy getting around <3

Anyway this is my first nano and i'm sooo excited... i already have a plot so feel free to read the synapsis on my page ^_^ uhhhh what else... hmmm oh! i don't suggest our read ins be on busch student center because the lounges are too spread apart... then again i've only been in the two giant lounges (the fireside lounge i think it's called ... and the other xD) and there are possibly more lounges here that i don't know off xDD... personally though i like the douglus campus center lounge best for the quiet and idk 'warm feeling' i get there xD but i'll be happy to work anywhere else... hmmm oh yea.. i'd prefer not to do sunday nights or weds nights just because i have expos at 8:10 the next day which SUUUUUCCCCKKKKKSSSS and i have to be up at like 6:00 am but i can do it if it turns out those are the only days other people can do it... which would be weird... one thing though is above sunday and weds I would REAALLY prefer not to miss thursday since those are my club days <3 however... i doubt i'll be able to attend anyway due to nanowrimo xDD oh which gives me a question... how late do write ins go?

Yea nights in general are kinda bad for me too ... i've got morning classes too and a lot of clubs and stuff at night ...

Last year, i think we only managed to set up maybe 4 write-ins and they were only two or three hours long (laptops die quickly when u're in the middle of the food court with no outlet in sight). The ones I went to were in the college ave student center from around 6 PM to 9 PM (i think ... memory is failing me ...), depending on who went and how much time they had. There were 2 or 3 of us, and we all had clubs at about 9 so we all scattered quickly :P

Yea the international and fireside lounges in BCC are a little big, but we can move the chairs and tables around to suit us :] the food court could be good too once we find outlets - we can push tables and chairs together :] there's a quiet lounge with cubicles and big tables in BCC too, it's kinda hidden back where the arcade was. or we could use the reading room in SERC - lotsa tables and chairs and outlets. LSC also has a lounge, but i don't think we can move the furniture around. I've never been inside douglass or cook centers so i don't know about them :/

Ello ello!

I'm Allison, you can call me either Alice or Ally. I'm a Rutgers Junior, an English major/Entomology minor, and I'm living on Douglass. <333

This is my first year doing NaNo and I'm pretty excited. I've only just kinda watched from the sidelines the past two years.

I think a write-in would be wonderful! I'm usually around and available after 4 or 5, Thursdays are bad, aaaaand Fridays it depends on whether or not my boyfriend or family is visiting. ^_^ Good to meet some of you!

Hi everyone!

I'm Shaili (pronounced Shay-lee, emphasis on Shai). I'm a sophomore and an English and Psych double-major; I live on Busch.

This is my first year doing Nano too! I tried once before but I felt too pressured in high school, but I'm trying again :) I have a vague idea about what I want to write about, what about you guys?

I really want to do a write-in. I can do Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday nights, if we're doing it at night. I'm up for doing it on College Ave, it's way too quiet on Busch. I don't really have a place in mind, though...

Wow, despite being a freshmen, I've got the most years of NaNo so far, don't I? xD

Anyways, Thursdays are taken up for the most part for me. Tuesdays are iffy too because I have an 8:10 class on Busch. Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays (plus weekends of course) are all fine with my schedule given nothing catastrophic happens. The few opinions stated seem to agree on College Ave's campus center. That's fine by me (hopefully I don't get lost lol). 6-9PM is fine as well, on the days I've mentioned.

Let me know if this is good for you guys as well. I'll wait until the last few weeks in Oct. before setting some defined write-in days and times when more people started popping in as November draws closer. :3

As for my NaNo, as per usual I have a small character list at the moment (which will multiply by the first HOUR of nano), and a vague plot. I do have some details worked out, but I like leaving myself lots of room to work with.

Hi!

So many first timers! Good for you guys. First year is a lot of fun.

I'm a senior commuter, Comm major/ French minor.

I'd be up for a write-in if it were on College Ave, I guess more in the late mornings M-Th or at like 2:30 on M or W. Not really sure where or anything. So... yeah. :)

Fridays are good for me as well and weekends (especially Saturday mornings through afternoon) are very good. Besides that, I can also do Tuesdays 420-800pm, Thursdays 420- whenever, and Fridays, anytime after 1pm

I second (or third or fourth?) having it on College Ave. They have some nice lounges in the student center or in the library (I think. I haven't really ever been in Alexander. O_O)

Weekends would probably be best for everyone it seems? Fridays and Wednesdays are REALLY good for me, so... For me anything BUT Monday night or Thursday!

Someone said they're living on Douglass/Cook? Where? I'm in Woodbury Bunting Cobb. :3

Joining the conversation a little late but I'm Rachel. I'm a sophomore PoliSci/Labor Studies major on College Ave. Coll Ave write ins sound best to me, the student center has some nice areas to settle down in, but I'm pretty flexible. I'm good for Fridays-Sundays for the most part and Mon and Thurs. nights as well after 6:30. I won in 06 and 07 but being a freshmen distracted me last year, and I never made it far so I hope to correct that this year.

Hi, I'm Ashley! I'm a senior in engineering and ITI, and this is my first NaNoWriMo =)

I'm a commuter, but I live right in New Brunswick. I'm free Thursday evenings, Friday afternoons, and Saturdays. As for a location, they just opened up the Alcove at the CAC computer lab, and it is absolutely gorgeous! (http://alcove.rutgers.edu) Maybe we can make a few reservations for that spot?

Good luck to all. I graduated from RU in 2007 with a bachelors in Marketing. I commuted all 4 years and worked 2.5 years in the Cook/Douglass Computer Labs. I loved writing in the computer labs in between classes, at the Douglass Student Center lounge, or at the Starbucks on George. I still go to that starbucks all the time since I work across the street @ J&J now.

Hello everyone! My name is Courtney and I'm a graduate student in the Masters of Library and Information Science program. This is my second year doing NaNoWriMo - I wasn't in this group last year because I was under the impression that Rutgers was in North Jersey. I'm really really bad with geography. I'm from the shore, down by LBI, but spend most of my time up here. The Alcove looks beautiful and I think we should do that one night. I could pretty much be around Monday afternoon-night, Tuesday evening-night, and Thursday evening-night. I'll start being around on weekends, too, but hopefully I'll be working, I just don't know when or where yet. I live off campus on Hamilton Street. I have a few different plot-bunnies hopping around in my head; I just have to decide which one to chase.

Hi Courtney! (and all),

I'm another grad student in the MLIS program. My first NaNoWriMo was in 2000 and I actually won that year, but I have not won since (though I've at least signed up and written something most years since). Mondays are the days I'm on campus; after 6 PM on College Ave. would be best for a write-in for me, but I live way off campus in the bottom of Middlesex Co. and commute to RU, so please don't schedule around me (besides, the venue would need to have a handy outlet for me to plug my laptop in).

I really shouldn't be doing NaNo this year at all, because I have so much else on my plate, but what the heck...

Hey all,
I'm Sabina. Sophomore at the Business school (I know, I know...business school and NaNo? weird, but it works). I'll be graduating in 2012, with (hopefully) an accounting degree.

This is my first year doing it officially, although I've kinda tried (and failed) unofficially all through high school, skipped last year all-together, and now I'm trying again. Hopefully something works out this year.

I live on college ave (hardenbergh), so meeting up on college ave would be awesome. However, my schedule is disgustingly hectic, so you guys pick and if I can make it, I will. Hopefully we'll work something out b/c I need friends who understand the craziness of NaNo.

I know this is kind of late, but will anybody be writing on College Ave this week? I intend to be The Red Lion cafe sometime after 8pm on Tuesday in case anybody wants to join me.

I'll be the one with the massive green Dell laptop.

Hey guys! I'm Rose, I'm a sophomore here, English Major with a Cultural Anthropology Minor. This is my.... fourth year doing NaNo, and hopefully third successful year in a row! *crosses fingers* I remember doing some write ins last year at the Rutgers Student Center. They were pretty cool for me and really helped me catch up on word count whenever I fell behind, and were just plain fun.

I don't know if I'd be able to go to any write ins on Tuesdays (they're my hell days) but I would love to go to write ins whenever I get a chance.

I live on Douglass, but most of my classes are on College Ave, so depending on the day of the week, I'll be spending all my time on either of those campuses. I'm mainly on Douglass on Mondays and Wednesdays and am free on those days till evenings if anyone wants to do a write in with me then!

Hey! I'm Adriana.

I'm a freshman and I live on Cook/Douglass, too. I'm free every night but Tuesdays and Thursdays (and Wednesdays until November 18th––everyone come see Sinfonia perform!) and I'm psyched there are other Rutgers students around who are into this.

So let the write-ins commence? :D

Hey guys! I'm Kaye, I'm a sophomore, I live on Cook/Douglass and I'm an English major. I would be ALL ABOUT write-ins and writing parties! I'm free pretty much every night but Mondays and Wednesdays (damn late-night French class). Unfortunately most days I'm booked until about five, what with class and work, but Thursdays are entirely free.
