Hello all you Rocky Mountain WriMoose!

For those who are new to NaNo or our region, I am Banai (rhymes with Renee), the ML. This will be my third year as ML. IRL, I am a professional genealogist and a web site developer (reluctantly on the latter now, but I still have to pay the bills).

I have participated in NaNoWriMo since 2003, when I randomly found the web site in October. I have won every year. (I have to. I have OCD. Failure is not an option.)

I still have no idea what I'm writing this year. I've got a title for a wacky idea in my profile, but I'd rather come up with something better.

We have a Facebook group that we started last year. It was kind of an alternative when the NaNo site crashed last year. (For anyone new, the site crashing in early November is typical, but this year it may have a chance of working through the whole month with the new server setup. Note the amazon logo at the bottom of the page.)

We also have a Twitter account, if you didn't notice that yet: @SLCWriMo. (Yes, I'm taking these web sites too far lately. Hopefully this is a phase that will pass. Again, the OCD, so it will need some time.)

Links to both of those are in the forum header under "Regional Info."

I look forward to seeing y'all at the kick-off, write-ins, and tgio this year!

Hi All,

My name is Judie and this will be my fourth Nano. I'm proud to say I've completed the last three.

This year I will have the pleasure of typing with a brace, at least I’m out of the cast like contraption they had me in for a while. My daughter would burst out laughing when she’d watch me try to type. My right hand is going a mile a minute while my left hand is trying to keep up with hunt and peck.

If asked how I mangled my arm I respond with “Roller Derby” or “Who would have thought Fantasy Football could get so physical.” The truth is my multitasking skills are lacking and I simply tripped and did a face plant as I was trying to enter the library. So the rumors are true, I can’t walk and chew gum at the same time. ;)

Hello all from - more or less - the middle of Salt Lake valley. I am a professional writer and curriculum developer. You would think that this makes it easy for me to do NaNo. In actuality, the opposite often happens. It wasn't until the last 2 years that I could turn off the auto-editing in my brain long enough to just write and not worry about if things sounded right or whatever.

I'm trying to get my wife to do it with me this year. She's expressed some interest in the past but never quite did anything. I'm working on her, though. Mm-hm! We have 3 kids that are now old enough to not be annoy - er - asking her for help with every little thing every 5 minutes. So it's looking good.

Hello,

I'm Nick and this will be my fourth NaNoWriMo (missed 2007) and I hope to win ... for the first time ... this year.

After hitting a wall at 20k last year, I resolved to practice writing ALL YEAR so that I could breeze through this year. In the meantime, I like to think I've developed a bit more confidence as a writer, and I'm looking forward to taking another shot at the purple this year.

Hello!

Simone here. This is my first NaNo, so advice is extremely welcome. I'm a freshman at the University of Utah studying theater. I've got some idea about what I'm going to write, and I got really bored the other day and made my signature graphic. Anyway, I'm very excited to be a part of this. I hope to be able to get to know some of the other writers and learn some NaNo tricks from the veterans.

Hi!

I have suddenly found myself with lots of free time on my hands, and so needed a fun way to fill up the time that would not leave me feeling like I just wasted several months of my life. I believe NaNo fits the bill, and anxiously await November and hope that mingling with everyone else will inspire/put enough pressure on me to actually meet the goal. This will be my first year.

And I'd bet my life that I've seen you before, Banai, even though I don't recognize you from your picture or your name. I worked at the FHL for a year, and have gone there every day this week. Gen is another great way to pass the time without feeling like you haven't accomplished anything, even if I'm horribly disorganized, technologically backwards (I don't have a laptop, and refuse to use paper. So I guess I'll be writing my novel on my cellphone if I go to any of these write-ins.), and feel completely lost after picking all the low hanging fruit. :3

As for me, I'm hoping to go to the U next spring. Major in CS, Information Systems, or Sociology. Dream is to help create the holy grail of technology: AI. Until then, I'm hoping to whittle away at managers' job security by improving the decision making and execution abilities of the machines. It should come as no surprise that my novel is going to be SciFi.

Hey all!

This is my first year doing NaNo. I first heard about it last year when someone on one of the roleplaying sites that I go to was wondering if anyone else was participating in it. I was interested then, but I failed to sign up in time. Now this year I decided "Why not?" and signed up for it.

IRL I am a student attending high school right now. I have participated in the Technology Student Association and was able to go to the national conference in Denver. It was an awesome experience.

As for the novel I'm writing this year it is going to be a Fantasy Sword and Sorcery book. Can't wait for November to come so that I can start writing it immediately. I want to win so badly that I'm going to make it mandatory for me to write at least once every two days.

Hope to have a great time! Cheers!

Hey, all! I'm Opheliac, and this is my second year here, and my second win. (It is. Like Banai, I must win.) (I also did Screnzy earlier this year.)
I can't chat long, before I have to leave for work, like, now, but anyway, I'm super-excited even though I don't REALLY know what I'll be writing this year. :(
Love you all!

Hey all, I'm Moof, a WriMo from the Millcreek Township area (WAY South Salt Lake) and this here is my second year. I made 25,000 words in two weeks last year, but finals and work and having to move caused me to have to put it all on hold. However, recently finished my Bachelor's Degree program and am comfortably settled and work is still there but oh well. I'm gonna wint his year!

*heads back to figuring out what he wants to write this year. . .*

I signed up last November and then I got sick, my husband got sick, and my two little ones got sick and it just wasn't a good time. I was so excited to try this that I couldn't wait for the next November, so my husband and friends held an event just for me last May. With their support and encouragement, I won in May! It was such great fun that I'm doing it again already and dragging about 100 middle schoolers along with me. If there are any other teachers out there doing this with their students, would love to chat with you about how it's going!

Hi everyone. I'm konajar (pronounced kon-a-HAR, I know, it's weird),
this is my fifth nano, and I've won the last four times. Since I have more time this year than last year, I hope I'll be able to manage this year as well. I'm a U student majoring in Chinese. My novel is going to be about werewolves. (Um, again. I did werewolves 2 years ago and fantasy all the other years. Haha.)

Hi, Everyone! I am JsBugga, which is short for my grandson, Josh's, name for me: Bugga. This is my 3rd year with NaNo, and will be the 3rd time I have won! I won't accept defeat! My older son got me started, and I am so glad he did! I am trying to get my youngest daughter to participate this year, too.

I manage a group home for 3 men with severe disabilities, so I am very busy with that. I am NOT, however, too busy to write! My first novel (2007) was about a young orphan girl who finds a wonderful family. Last year was a fictional story about a grandmother and her grandchildren. In that one, I related many of our own real family stories. This year, I have no clue; but that is how the other two years started. I just started by describing a scene or small incident and the story took off by itself. I love that about NaNo!

Best of luck to all who enter this year!

Hi all! I'm Mandy! I'm a college freshman at SLCC (just because it's cheap and close to home) double majoring in Psychology and Creative Writing/English. This will be my second year doing NaNo, but I unfortunately lost my information for both my old account on here as well as my e-mail account that was connected to it! I'm really looking forward to it, even though my friend wants me to challenge myself to write 2 novels since I write so much anyways!

Can't wait to get started!

Hi everyone! Newbie here. NaNoWriMo has intrigued me for years. This year my boy is in full-time kindergarten, so I thought: no more excuses! I'll be writing a traditional fantasy.

Hello all, I'm lostfairytales. I'm sure everyone can say that. LOL. I'm near the Sugar House area. This is my fourth year. Nano is extremely fun and can't for November to be here so I can start on my 3rd and final chapter in my "Forgotten Mystic Chronicles: Krys" saga. I'm shooting for 5K a day to be able to actaully finish my novel before the end of the month. I did win last year, but I never finished the novel as I should have after the month. So I'm shooting for that amount of words to geter dun!!!! LOL.

Hi everyone. This is my first NaNo. I'm married to Daggerfang and he convinced me to give it a try this year. I think I'm a bit crazy--I have two children in elementary school and a just-turned-one-year-old boy. I figure naptime will be when I do the majority of my writing. Or getting up really early.

Anyway, I love pioneer stories so I'm thinking of heading in that direction.

Looking forward to this adventure--I've never done anything like this before!

Happy Noveling, hope to see you all at the kick off.

Tried this back in 2002 and got 20,000 words of a caper novel written before I had to give it up.

This year: Call Me Isaac. That's Isaac of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

Research is fascinating. Worked most of the day today on just the last half of Gen 11. Just trying to grok Terah. Why did he take off for Canaan? Why were his descendants so drawn to in-marriage? Did that affect their infertility (Sarah, Rebekah, Rachael)? Why did he stop in Haran? Joshua says Terah was a pagan. Is that why he named his daughter and granddaughter after the wife and the daughter of the local moon god? Etc.

I'm in Sugarhouse. Trying to organize Sugar House Writers. (This link goes stale in 6 days.) If you're interested, you can e-mail me at sugarhouse.writers@gmail.com.

My bretheren! I have returned unto you!

It's Bri, if anybody remembers me. (I REMEMBER SOME OF YOU.) I had the friend who kept biting everyone? Yeah. Anyway, I've moved up to Ogden and tried it with the local group last year, but it's just not the same! My loyalties run entirely too deep. (Honestly, the Ogden group kind of really, really sucked.) So as it happens, I think I'll be crashing the parties you fine folk throw.

I see we have a fancy calendar this year! My, how organized we are.

Hey guys. I am he who is William.

Wow....i am not that pretentious I promise.
Anyways this is my first NaNoWriMo experience and I am delightfully excited. I have been writing creatively for a little over four years now. I mostly journal, write poetry an other such shorter literary adventures. I am 18 and a freshman at Westminster College. I am planning of writing some sort of coming of age story in an unconventional way. More of a "oh crap no one told me life would actually give me challenges outside of school" type of thing. It will be mostly dealing with four different friends dealing with transitioning between highschool and college. I fully understand this is a overused topic but for some random reason I believe I can actually doing something unique within it. Call me crazy. I am currently reading the "no plot no problem" book and am simply love it. It is both instilling a sense of excitement and fear in me. So ya I dont have a title yet but I guess you guys will be the first to find out!

I can't wait to start writing with yall and I shall see you around the website!
happy writing!

Howdy, I'm Maelstra, an Accounting/IS major at the U. For all you new folk who requested advice, I'd suggest brainstorming plot points now, and doing some practice typing to get up to November speeds. ;)

This is my 5th NaNo, and I'm happily prepping for my next venture into this madness. I'm planning to do the next book in the same universe as my last two NaNoWriMo's, which is an odd sort of science fiction/fantasy mix.

I'm getting very good at completing rough manuscripts, but not at editing them. Oh well. That's a problem for another month. Reckless writing ahoy!

Hello everyone, I am fisher. This is my third NaNo. The past two I have been really prepared and won but this year I have not done a thing yet so I am a little nervous about the whole experience. I do have a couple of weeks to get something, maybe a plot, a character or two. Here is to hoping. I have not participated in the write-ins before but I am hoping I can participate in a couple this year.

I like to write fantasy. I look forward to meet my fellow Nanos.

Good luck everyone.

Hello to all of you!

This is my first NaNo and I'm excited to participate. I found out about NaNo through my younger sister who is very enthralled with the prospect of writing and has been reading the book "No Plot, No Problem." She doesn't want to participate alone and asked me to join in this next month and write. I, myself, am more interested in the editing part of writing than the actual writing of things but I still love to write. I have been writing for the past 2 years and have been editing/proofing books, articles, and papers for the past 10yrs. Mostly for friends and family but for the past 5 yrs I have edited 2 authors books that have been published.

I am going to school with a major in American Sign Language Interpreting and have decided just recently to minor in a Writing/Editing degree (still looking at programs and degree's at the time). I love all sorts of genres and have thought about writing a Civil War Romance/Historical Fiction at the moment, although I have a feeling that it will change come 1st of November.

Again, I'm very excited and can't wait to get started!

I'm Kyle,

I actually just moved from downtown SLC to Magna, but consider myself an SLC citizen. This is my first nano and I have a horrible track record and completing hobbies. I really doubt that I will win, but I'm going to try. I look forward to getting involved and getting some feedback and just might make it to some events.

Hi all. I'm Drew, and I manage a bookstore by day and write by night. I'm a published author, but, in history (I had to figure out some way to use my history degree from the University of Utah). I'm think I've got all the longing for history out of my system now and have been playing with fiction, writing short stories and filing ideas for novels for a number of years now.

I am also a prolific book collector and reader- you rarely will find me without a book in my hand. While I like to read nearly anything, I'm very partial to mysteries.

This is my first attempt at NaNoWriMo and I'm looking forward to the concentrated effort to get 50,000 words or more down on the proverbial paper. I always do better under pressure, chased by deadlines.

Can't wait for Nov. 1

My name is Jess :)

I have lived in Salt Lake for about two years, but I grew up in Las Vegas. This will be my first year doing this, and I'm really excited about it! I've always wanted to write a book and this will really give me a push to get the ball rolling. I have no story line, title, character set up, or anything... so I'll be doing this completely from scratch... oh dear...

I can't wait to meet you all at the Kick-Off at the Pie!!!

Hi everyone! I'm Lanea. I've been considering doing NaNoWriMo for years, but kept putting it off. This year I couldn't think of a good reason not to that wasn't "what if?" so I'm finally giving it a go. My novel will be a Cinderella retelling. I'm terrified of the commitment I'm making and really shy online, but I hope to get over it all and have a good time.

I'm Caius. I'm in High School, and my friend's been telling me about Nanowrimo for the past couple of years, but this is the first time I've looked at it. I doubt I'll be able to reach the 50,000 word mark between essays for school, but I'll try.
