I thought the veterans could share their experience with their writing tools, and the newbie could have some inputs. Now I don't know which category I belong to, newbie or veteran =P.

Tools yang gw pake:

Microsoft Word

  • Terutama karena grammar checknya. Lumayan banget kalo nulis bahasa Inggris.
  • Kelemahannya, lumayan susah kalau mau membagi dokumen totalnya jadi per chapter, makanya gw pake tools berikutnya

Chapter by chapter (http://pagesperso-orange.fr/sebastien.berthet/cbc/index.html)

  • tools tambahan untuk microsoft word, only for windows.
  • freeware, bisa dengan mudah menyatukan dokumen chapter terpisah dan melihat berapa jumlah total word countnya (berguna banget tuk nanowrimo)

Celtx (http://celtx.com/)

  • Untuk general outline cerita, plot, deskripsi karakter.
  • Fungsi aslinya sebenarnya untuk menulis skenario film.
  • Freeware, for mac & windows

Happy writing!
Astrid

http://www.dailywritingtips.com/writing-software/

Most of them aren't free, but the ones that are seem useful.

And then there's always Write or Die:

banyak sih. sebelum november tiba pilih mana yg terbaik terus fokus. kalau hanya perlu word saja ya pake word aja.

kalau gratisan:
http://storybook.intertec.ch/joomla/

^ cukup sederhana. tapi gw lagi ngulik liquid story binder.

kalau ngetik gw pake ini:

enak biar ga keganggu.

tapi senjata utama gw tetep buku tulis.

I'm using Word (microsoft) for Mac - dunno if they new Word for PCs are the same, but the one I have actually have tabs (like Excel) so I can separate my chapters in the same file. It also have some sort of a scrapbook (not perfect but good enough). I use the scrapbook for timeline notes, character descriptions and photos of actors/actress fit for the role.

I don't seem to be able to use celtx, and other writing tools, because it distracts me from actual writing... I prefer to have my notes printed and pasted on my desk :P

Btw, I loooooove write or die!!

NOoooope!!! The one on the PC still the boring uninspired one *wants mac but hates the fact i can't afford one at the moment*

Oh and I use Documents to Go on Blackberry. It can edit/create/review .doc(x). Very good when I'm on the move :D.

I strongly recommend that you use Ywriter5. It is far more practical in writing novels than microsoft words. One project can be break out to chapters and each chapters can be break out to scenes. In it you can write your character notes, location, plot, detail etc. It make writers easier to access their note midway or to see previous chapter in a click of a mouse.

I've tried to use Liquid Story but in the end, I'm back to MS Word again ^o^

Palingan sekarang lagi suka banget sama One Note, tapi itu buat ngebantuin riset sih bukan buat ngetiknya.

Oh ya. I loooove Celtx tuh... :D

I am using MS Word. Nothing fancy, because then I wouldn't be able to operate it. *blush* The disadvantage of my inability to use mouse... Dratted Jaws. But well, without my reluctantly-beloved screen reader, I wouldn't be able to operate the computer, less the Internet. *grin* I am using my laptop for this year's NaNoWriMo, since my cmputer is currenly dead, and for easier access I am using my mobile phone. No more using braille! No transcribing needed, then. Mmm. I'll just do the chapters separately, then put them into a file when the time for the ferification comes. Not practical, I know, but the other options seem more bothersome than this.
