Hey all!

So every year we get people asking whether write-ins can be held in Malvern/ Worcester in addition to the main ones in Birmingham.

And so since you have an ML who is located in Malvern this year, I have made it my own personal mission to get things organised.

So I have found a couple of places that will allow us to host our events. All in Worcester City Centre.

First up is the Glasshouse:
It's up near the commandary but I can give directions to anyone who doesn't know the way (or meet somewhere else and take you there.). They've said that they'll reserve a table for us. But they have said that they're not that happy with us going there in the evening. So unless we find a weekday afternoon that we can all do then that may not be an option.

Secondly is the Library:
I haven't confirmed this but I went in and got the email address of the person to speak to. So if we decide that this is a viable option then I'll email them and get this all sorted out.

Thirdly, Laebrye has informed me that Charlston's in Reindeer court will take us. I'll have to go in there and make sure but that could also be an option.

Lastly is a last resort option. We may need to use someone's house. I'm happy for mine to be used, but maybe not every time. So if you are happy to host write-ins in your house (and don't live somewhere obscure that no one will be able to find.) then drop me a PM and let me know. We've already had two people offer up their houses (I'm naming no names but one of them is me. :P).

Any other ideas then please either reply to this thread or PM me.

Thankyou
Lily

As Lily has already pointed out, I am indeed very keen on this idea, as regular trips to Birmingham are currently unfulfillable due to budget constraints.

If we need to then you can just come round my house and vice verser. :P I'm always up for more write-ins. :)

The library would be good :D I'm thirteen and my enthusiam (translation: special concoction of bribery, blackmail and guilt tripping) has got several of my friends into it. I'm hoping to start a school club during November and possibly beyond. But anyway, there's definitely two people who could come (if it wasn't late on a schoolday, or during school hours) and hopefully more once the club's up and running.

Also would it bve possible to have an after-school write in? Perhaps at 4:30ish. My school is close to town so when I get the club up and running we could walk down there, though most of us don't have laptops. Or perhaps I could organise a write-in at our school library... :D

EDIT: Okay, so I'm stupid. Yes, the events are at weekends. Yes, I SHOULD HAVE NOTICED.
But I can't make any saturdays. I'll se if I can get to any Sunday events though.

I can't do weekends (because I need to be in Birmingham doing the main write-ins) so a weekday would really be better for me. 4:30 sounds good. I'd be better on a Monday, Tuesday or Friday really. Tuesday is the best because there's plenty of time for me to get home and spend some time with the puppy before coming back into town.

I'm a bit tentative about using the library. From my experience of write-ins they can get pretty hyper and noisy at times. Would you be okay using one of the Cafe type places? I can check with them that they're okay with a thirteen year old. If you don't know where they are, I can meet you somewhere else beforehand and take you there?

For me, tuesdays aren't much good - I have essential windband practice straight after school (we're entering a competition in November), though I don't know about everyone else. Fridays or Mondays would probably be good (I'll NaNomail Jeah - my dedicated Real World WriMo Friend - to see if she can do them) and cafes would be fine. More than fine, because YUMMY! :D

I know most the places in Worcester, so finding it shouldn't be a problem, especially with jeah's help.

I'll have to talk to my mother and find someone to check on Puppy, but Wednesdays might work for me. I could just bring my laptop to college and find somewhere to write until you all get there. We'll have to check that laebrye and anyone else can come on those days but hey.

But yeah if we can't do wednesday then it'll have to be friday or monday.

Wednasday is fine. I'm okay for any day (excluding school hours, because of course I would never skive for any reason... unless I ha to...) except Tuesday and Saturday, and as far as I know Jeah doesn't have any commitments, unless she's made a spontaneous decision to start Chessboxing.

Meh, MUST NANOMAIL JEAH.

Okay so Wednesdays it is. Unless Laebrye or someone else suddenly comes along and says "I go sky diving on Wednesdays" then we'll have to pick another day.

Okay so for now we'll say wednesdays at 4:30m and rethink when the others reply.

Now where:

Glasshouse is very nice. It's nice and open with plenty of power sockets for people bringing laptops. And they've agreed to reserve us a table.

Charlston's is also very nice. It looks slightly more comfortable than Glasshouse, but the lighting is quite dim. I think it'll be okay for people who are handwriting, but it is something that needs to be considered.

If we choose Glasshouse then I will need to go in and check their okay to have the younger of us in there as they do sell alcohol. But I can go do that one day. We just need to pick one really. If we pick Charlston's then I'll just need to know numbers so that I can ring them to say whether we need two tables or not.

I've nanomailed Jeah to check about Wednesday. Overall, Glasshouse sounds like a better place but I've never been to either of them so I can't really help. Dim lighting probably wouldn't be much of a problem as long as the write-in doesn't last for more than a few hours.

I'll pop by Glasshouse tomorrow and check that they'll let younger people in. But yeah I think it sounds better. I'll also need to check they'll be okay with more people.

Hey guys,

Sorry I've been really bad at replying to this. Wednesdays aren't possible for me, and Tuesdays/Thursdays will be difficult too. Mondays are possible but seeing as how I've booked every Friday afternoon in November off work (and the whole Friday the day after the Ash gig) that makes the most sense for me.

I've seen the glasshouse website and it looks pretty good. I did mean to try and check some other places out but so far I've not found anything.

Looks like Monday it is then. Are you free at 4:30 Laebrye?

I don't think that we need any other places now. I think we just need to choose one of the ones we've already go. It looks like it's a toss up between Charlston's and Glasshouse. So let's just pick one.

I spoke to Glasshouse today and they're happy. They'll even put some tables together for us if we want. :)

So I don't mind whichever one we want to go to so show of hands maybe?

I can do Monday's at first, but about halfway though November I go on school placement, so it'll be really hard for me to make them.

Is it that you can't make write-ins at all later in the month or that you'd be better on a different day. Because I'm happy to have extra write-ins for those who can make it on another day as well.

Sorry, don't know if you misunderstood, I meant Fridays make the most sense for me. Unless you already got that and chose Mondays for some other reason (it is possible I've missed something elsewhere in the thread). If we're sticking with Mondays getting there for 4:30 will be impossible, due to working full time and already taking some generous time off for nano. It'll be 5:30 at the absolute earliest and that's if the buses are running ok, which is rare. But if we're doing Fridays I can make it by 4:30 easily, and will probably try to get there earlier so I can get a head start!

Sorry that was a misunderstanding. My mistake.

Okay fridays sound good to me as long as everyone else can make 'em.

I might be there early too, don't know for sure because I'm having to get things sorted so that someone looks after the puppy whilst I'm out.

Okay so it seems that it'll be Fridays at 4:30pm at the Glasshouse. Starting 6th of November and then every Friday for the rest of the month.

If anyone has a problem with that please raise your hand (or just post a reply to this comment... Or! Take a picture of yourself with your hand raised and post it in reply to this comment!! Too tricky? Okay just reply to this comment)

Also if you could just reply saying that you're coming and if anyone else is coming with you. I just need to know numbers so that I can let Glasshouse know. Oh and how many people are bringing computers? I might bring an extension cable.

I'll be coming with my trust clunker laptop. I don't even know if it works... But hopefully it will :) I'll have plenty of time to test it beforehand anyways.

Hey all!

I'm in Great Malvern and have limited transport/funds so am looking to stay within the Great Malvern area. The local library (where I am right now) is fine with people meeting here either at the computer stations, in the study area (if you're quiet) or in the cafe area - plenty of drinks/snacks to keep you going! You can reserve two hours of computer time a day, or if you bring a laptop they have surge protector thingies for you to use. Seeing as my flat is way too distracting, I see myself being in the library writing probably every day in november (except sundays of course!) If anyone would like to join me, and there a specific time good for them, then please mail me! I am free daytimes tues to fri and possibly late afternoons on mon and sat.

Let me know :) The library are also quite interested in the idea, so we may get some random support or people staring at us, which could be funny :)

Wait the Library up in town? Near where woolworths used to be? They told me they wouldn't have any more than two people meeting there! Who did you talk to? Why are they giving us different information?

Belay my last post. I might just come down and talk to them myself. The people I spoke to before were really unfriendly, but if I get a written agreement then there's no chance of them being unfriendly to us again.

I'll be there in about 5 or 10 minutes. I'll slip on nano hoodie so if you want to look out for me. You may not see this message before then, but if you do and you see me then come say hey and we can sort this out together.

It's brilliant that you've done this. I'd given up on using malvern library.

Hey all again!

Have just met up with Cieria and we've had a discussion with the Library manager here in Malvern. We are holding two information sessions next week - Weds 28th Oct at 6.30pm to 8pm and Thurs 29th Oct 7pm to 8pm to talk to people about NaNo - if you would like to come along to discuss arranging Write-Ins that would be great!

Cieria will be at the library on the Thursday, I will be there on the Weds.

See you there!!

Michelle

PS. We'll be in the cafe area!

I can't guarantee I'll make it to either meeting. Nor can I guarantee my attendance if the write ins get moved to Malvern, due to a muscle injury I've recently suffered. We'll have to see whether I recover sufficiently to be able to scale the hill from the station :(

Oh I'm sorry! We didn't mean that we were moving the write-ins to malvern! We're gonna hold some in Malvern /in addiction/ to the ones in Worcester. Sorry for the confusion.
