Hello, Central Arkansas WriMos!
I am NOT an official Municipal Liaison; however, last year we had a few impromptu meetings which I found encouraging, so thought I'd grab an unofficial gauntlet and run with it. (Oooooh, that mixed metaphor stank!!!)
Have secured the McMath Library on John Barrow Road in Little Rock (south of Baptist Hospital, not too far from I-630, right near Parkview High) for a few dates:
Thursday, 5 November 2009 : 6 PM - 8:30 PM
Thursday, 12 November 2009: 6 PM - 8:30 PM
Thursday, 19 November 2009: 6 PM - 8:30 PM
Saturday, 28 November 2009: 9 AM - 1 PM
**for the evening dates, attendees MUST be there BEFORE 6:30 PM if they want to get in the parking lot** If you come after that, you may park in the circular driveway and walk up the sidewalk to gain entrance, but someone will need to open the door for you.
I realize the Saturday is right after Thanksgiving/Black Friday, but some folks may want to escape from the family or the dirty dishes or whatnot. It can be a combo Finishing-Up and/or Thank God It's Over affair.
We may bring food & drink as long as we are careful; there was a small deposit for that, so no problema.
You can PM me or email me at mahaliaretha at sbcglobal.net if you have questions or suggestions. If you think you CAN come to a meeting, please do PM me so I can psych myself up to crawl out of my shell and meet'n'greet. Otherwise I'll be there floundering away at my laptop all by my lonesome. :-)
Peace,
gammy-the-slug

Hello All,
This is my first attempt at NaNoWriMo! I would love to come to one of these gatherings. Could you tell me exactly what it is about? I do not have a laptop. :( So I will not be "plugged in". Is this a requirement?
Oh and Raethin...perhaps we can be "shy" together! That way we won't feel so out of place. I am terribly shy.
I am super excited!

C'mon, y'all, show up and enjoy yourselves. Writers tend to be loners or introverts; that's why we huddle together and write -- because the rest of the world doesn't understand this compulsion. Safety in numbers. :-)
Raethin, I think I met you online (at least -- maybe at a coffeehouse too?) last year or 2007, b/c I had you on my buddy list, so it'd be great to have you show up.
No requirements to show up; some of us actually write (the motivated ones like Shayla), and a few of us schmooze around and share problems with our plots, characters, word choices, etc. I *love* the brainstorming-in-a-group-of-2-or-3 aspect; often someone else can give one insight into one's book. Like we are muddling about in the trees and they appreciate the outline of the forest. The "I got this far and now am stalled" stuff, where we toss ideas and see if any stick.
If you want to write, sometimes the library has laptops which can be used, or you can write longhand. Bring a flash drive so you can save it if you do write. You might could use my laptop (assuming it doesn't die on me; one never knows) if you wanted. If you don't have a flash drive, I could burn your night's work onto a CD-R.
Sometimes all we want is a break from the novel but with people who understand why we do it. As in, not our families/roomates/partners/hamsters. As in, other Wrimos. Some of the Wrimos are published authors, but I do this for a lark and am totally unambitious. I won't listen to your plot and then snicker and go "Is that all you've got?" -- and neither will the published big kahunas. That's why, in my opinion, shyness is not a problem: because we are all in the same boat.
Feel free to nanomail me if you get cold feet about showing up and I'll try to encourage some more. I am not a social person, but I look forward to NaNoWriMo and our local meetings because I will be with a few people who "get it."
Let me know if I should try to bring coffee, hot water & tea bags, brownies, or anything else snackwise; I put a deposit down so we are allowed to have food. I am extremely overweight, so fair warning that any snacks I bring will not be healthy. :D

Unfortunately, I teach class on Thursday nights but I might be able to do some rescheduling a couple of those nights. I will certainly try and make it.
Could you provide me with a street address since I'm new to this area and I'll stick it in the GPS? Thanks so much.

I work at the Dee Brown Library off Baseline (part of the same library system as McMath) and could set up some meetings there, too, if anyone is interested. We could possibly do Monday nights. Somebody let me know if I should book dates!

I have booked the meeting room at Dee Brown on the night of Monday, November 16, from 6:00-8:00 pm. Please NaNoMail me if you would like to come!
We have eight laptops that can be used as long as you bring a flashdrive to take your work home on.

Thanks, Nadja! Will try to put in an appearance.
Bought some junk food today for Thursday night's write-in. :D I hope some of y'all will be able to come out.
Remember that if you come AFTER 6:30 PM, you will need to park in the area near the book drop-off kiosk and walk up the sidewalk to the doors and get our attention to open them.
Good luck everyone!

I would love to attend but I'm not sure if I will get the chance. I am barely finding the time to write right now between my day job, taking care of my sick boyfriend, and cooking meals. I hope I will get the chance to attend sometime. I thinkn writing in a group might help keep me focused.

Went to library to double check. Here's the updated info:
I will TRY to be there about ten til six; I run perpetually late so if you get there before I do, go in the lobby, and the meeting room is immediately on the RIGHT. There is a youth program before us, so we will get the room when they are through.
McMath closes the doors at SIX PM on Thursdays, so you will need to tap on the door after 6 PM to get me or someone to open it for you.
After 6:30 PM the parking lot gate closes; you will need to park in the circular drive and walk up the sidewalk to the main entrance and get our attention. This should not be a problem unless your mobility is extremely impaired; the sidewalk is on a slight incline but pretty smooth, so crutches or wheelchair would make it alright although I am not sure where the entrance cut is down at that level.
I am hoping to bring snacks and maybe coffee; if you want to bring your own drinks or goodies or any to share, feel free. We will try not to make a big mess.
If you have questions, call me at 227-5169 and ask for Carol. This is NOT a cell phone, so after 5:45 you will be out of luck.
I usually schmooze at these things but am way behind, so I may end up actually writing instead of plot doctoring. :D

Oh, I would SO very much like to do this... I can't this week, but maybe next... (I don't have a laptop either) XD But I'll bring a flash drive in case someone has an extra or the library has one I can use.... or I could just write the old-fashioned way *laughs hysterically at the thought* I just moved to Little Rock recently, so I'm looking forward for the chance to make some new friends. :3

My, my ... only 2 of us here with all this snack food and neither one drinks coffee.
So far I've chatted a lot, but we are plugging away. "Spelliingwords" is writing like a viking ship on fire. I am slogging along like a forgetful granny on a sugar high. :D
Maybe next week a few more can make it.
I sincerely hope nobody tried to come and left because I didn't hear knocking on the door. If so, my deepest apologies.

Wow, I just found this thread. I wish I could get out to meetings but can't do it at night. I am glad to hear that there are other WriMos out here in Central Arkansas. I hope more people show up for the other meetings. I know what a drag it is to schedule a meeting and not have people show up. It does sound like the two participants enjoyed themselves. That is great.
This is my first NaNoWriMo although I have been telling myself for years that I was going to do this. I am having a hard time just throwing down the bones and not editing but there will be time for that later. Editing the life out of my first paragraphs are what have cost me actually getting anything done in all these years.
Thanks for being "out there."
Cheers,
Ardee-ann

Oh, I so wish I could meet you tomorrow - but I have class during that time. If there's ever any other time you're out and about writing, do tell and I'll see if I can come drink coffee with you (and maybe even work on our novels!)
Also, also - I definetly understand about not wanting to meet up at night. I went last week, and I plan on going again this week, and I know that for a lot of people, at night after work is the only time they can be there - but I'd also like some other times if it could be arranged.
