Hey Quickstrike and various other Folsomites:

You all up for the usual day and place? Or do you want to go somewhere else or take another day?

[It dawns on me that I should write down the usual day and place. The tradition for Folsom has been Friday nights, generally 6 to whenever they kick us out, at It's a Grind at 2770 E Bidwell St in Folsom. Hence Folsom Fridays.]

I must have dropped out of the running last year or something... We did actually switch? I only say cause I thought that It's A Grind had closed for a month or so and we had to go back to Borders. Either way, It's A Grind is good for me. They do have the free wireless and all. Course, it's always nice to reciprocate with a drink or something ;)

2005 - largely untitled look into What Is Love? *(but didn't finish the book)
2006 - was to be "The Search for the Ultimate Burrito" and became Mr. Doe Takes A Vacation (not even close to winning or finish

Yep, we made the switch. They were open all four Fridays, so it was good.

Hmmm, better not firmly commit until we've gotten a couple more people to commit, but the odds are looking pretty good right about now.

I liked the It's a Grind last year, and it's close enough that convincing someone to drop me off there is easy! So I vote for the usual day and place.

I'm in Orangevale and will try harder to make it to write-ins this year, since my baby is bigger and can be left with Daddy a bit more. It's a Grind is a bit far, but a bit of non-baby writing time sounds liek bliss about now (we both have a cold....)

Same time, same place sounds good to me. :) Friday night write-ins are the best.

I've promised my husband that my NaNo writing won't interupt our normal activities, so I can't promise to join in any write-ins. However, if I can make it one night, Folsom is the closest to me (Rancho Cordova).

I'll be sure to make it out there. I have no life and love to go different places to write. :)

I'd love to come sometime! I live in Rancho and Folsom is so much easier to get to. :)

edit: Sweet! This place allows you to buy kids sized stuff? I'd love a kid sized hot choco.

I'm planning on coming. Did anybody else hear that borders is switching to free Internet? I don't know if folsom's has switched yet but they are all supposed to eventually...It's a grind is cool though. And there's a peete's in el dorado hills if you need a backup.

I'm planning on going to as many write-ins as I can. It's A Grind sounds great. I live in Folsom, so anywhere in Folsom is good for me. Hopefully I'll stick with it this year :P

Nice to see some familiar names and some new ones.

Fridays at It's a Grind. So the first time we meet is Friday the 6th at 6pm, right?

Bring your surge protectors/extension cords because there never is enough electrical outlets.

See ya,
Erik

Fridays work out well. I'm in the Cameron Park area, so this will work out as it's close and there are (so far) no planned write-ins closer. (And I'll be able to drive! Woohoo!)
Would some of my non-committed friends be allowed to come too? They like writing...just not the 1 month committment, lol.

Bah! What's the fun in writing if you're not insanely trying to churn out 50,000 words in one month? ;) Here's the thing, though. The place we usually go in Folsom isn't the biggest of places, and I'm hesitant to invite non-Nano folks (other than parents, but that's so some of our teenaged Wrimos can go to these things) for the moment, if that makes sense. We may have completely outgrown the usual Folsom location, which will mean some scrambling for a better one, but I won't know that for sure until the first write-in. Normally, I'd be okay with non-committed friends as we could always try to assimilate them into the collective, but...yeah.

Also, I think there's a person up on the hill that's trying to plan some for Placerville -- I don't know if that's any closer, and we should probably encourage them to post their thinking on the board -- but it's another option.

[Speaking of which, folks planning to attend Folsom, where shall we decamp to if it turns out that our first-choice venue happens to be too small? I'm thinking the Borders, but I'm open for other ideas.]

To give some validation to Kat's reply, our best night last year had fourteen(14 or more) peeps show up...not counting regular customers in that coffee shop. It already looks like we have another good 10+ replying to this thread.

Can't make the kick off stuff this weekend, but whenever I can get away from the house to write, I'll be at the It's a Grind on Folsom Blvd/Blue Ravine since it's 1/2 the distance from my house than the other one.

My regular schedule if anyone wants to meet outside of Fridays. . .
      1) Friday's at It's a Grind on East Bidwell across from Borders, next to Bell Air
      2) Tuesdays I'm at It's a Grind from 3:45-4:45pm (my girl is in ballet class for 1hr around the corner) @ Folsom/Blue Ravine
      3) Saturday mornings and Sunday mornings from 6am-7:15am It's a Grind @ Folsom/Blue Ravine
      4) I might be able to sneak a Sunday evening in as well...got to bribe the wife though

      Be seeing ya all.

As a side note. . .

I want to publish this novel and 30 days won't be enough words.

As we get closer to the end of November, if anyone is in a similar situation and wants to continue Fridays into December and maybe beyond, I'm game!

Is the one at Blue Ravine bigger than the East Bidwell one? If it is, we may want to reroute to that one.

Oh, I didn't see the one about Placerville. If it's closer, I'll bug them about this. (:
And thinking about it, it would be crazy for me to go to Writing Club on Fridays until about 5, then go down to Folsom at 6 for Write-Ins. I could manage, but I don't know if I would have the brain power to write that many words in such a short span of time.

Yeah, I haven't seen any posts about Placerville yet. I just know we have a deputy ML who was talking about doing something up that way, which is why I mentioned the bit about encouraging them to post their thinking on the board. ;) It's kinda hard to have write-ins if nobody knows where to go!

But seriously, the reason Folsom Fridays have become a tradition in the region is because a few Folsom-area folks a few years ago said, "Hey! We're writing in Folsom! On Friday!" and it just kinda grew from there. So seriously, start your own write-ins. Your MLs love that sort of thing. :)

Yeah. I'm still figuring out how late into November my Cross Country runs. I learned today that my season isn't over this Thursday, but I still get to work till at least next Saturday. Great! e_e That means the first week or so for NaNo will be slow.. weekends are good, they can help catch up!
