Do you already have an idea for your Nano book? If so, shout out about it in this thread!

And I'll start. :)

As usual, I'll be writing a science fiction novel. The first novel is going to be a SF version of the fairy tale "Little Red Riding Hood". Complete with an alien wolf, trees that move on their own, and a planetary mystery. And just what the heck is granny doing up there in her cottage in the middle of the forest, anyway? Oh, and red cape figures into it, too. It should be a lot of fun to write as it's already been really fun to plot it out.

Yay for Nano!

i've got a general idea for what i want to do.. :Q

this year i think i am going to try and write a story about a man who is immortal, but only through body switches. and it's going to mainly be about his life in the 1990s or late 1980s during a time where he ends up having a child with someone who is born the same ability. still working out some kinks with it, because i am still thinking about throwing in some side stories about his life spanning through different generations in different bodies and the people he meets during those times.. but i am generally looking forward to it and excited for the idea/this year. :)

yours sounds really interesting, julieann.. lol. i want to know more about this/read it already!

I'm down to three ideas that I'm torn between.

FIRST: Science Fiction (my favorite): A man has a natural ability to see wormholes. They're almost always quite small but he has never been able to enter them. He spots one while riding his motorcycle and decides to give it a try. After entering the orifice he finds himself flying through the air towards several large boulders, as the wormhole exited on a precipice. He crashes and becomes trapped by what appears to be a huge carniverous plant. He is saved by an unlikely new friend who helps him discover how common wormhole travel is, and how difficult it is to return home.

SECOND: Autobiography: August 4, 1990 I was riding a motorcycle home when a station-wagon came around a corner and swerved into my lane hitting me head-on. I should have died instantly. My left leg was shattered and hanging on by shreds, my pelvis was broken and protruding through my abdomen, my back was broken at the T8, my neck was broken at the C1, my right arm had broken both the radius and unlar bones, my left arm had broken the humerus and was ripped out of the socket, shredded the brachial plexus nerves and had ripped open a major vein, the base of my skull was fractured, my face was broken and torn, I had received a traumatic brain injury, and lost the skin on the back of my left hand. A hundred miracles happened on that day and the following year that kept me alive, only paralyzed my left arm, and got me back on my feet. To say that God was with me would have been a huge understatement. This is the story about surviving this and other accidents, living with severe chronic pain for nine years, and finally discovering a surgery that reduced my pain and gave me back my life.

THIRD: This story is from an idea from my wife. It's an action/adventure and tells about how a man's life ended with a murder, but not his murder. It ended with the murder of a little girl, a life sentence from the judge, and forgiveness from the girl's father. And then it began anew.

I'm not sure which one will win-out. Any ideas?

Much fun and happiness,

C.D. Stanley

BTW I just finished reading DustyChica's blog about her entry this year (it can be found at http://goatflyers.livejournal.com/ ) and it sounds hilarious. (Insert shameless plug here) Props to you! My son is a HUGE Christopher Paolini fan and I know he will love reading every word. I look forward to it.

With much pain, bitterness and envy,

No. Wait. That's not right. Is it? Try again.

With much joy, happiness and anticipation,

This is my first year. I don't know what to write. I'm thinking of just starting and then watching what arises. It may reflect sentiments that mirror my life since I've moved to Prescott two months ago. Now that I'm typing maybe it will be something that is set in the parks or forests around. . . . .

I don't know.

Suggestions?

Hi there! Welcome to our region!

Ideas are such individual things, so it's hard to just throw things out there in hoping something will stick. But, I do have a few suggestions.

The first is to download Lazette Giffords free ebook NaNo for the New and the Insane. Not only does this have great advice for anyone doing Nano, but she also talks about coming up with ideas and expanding on the beginnings of ideas.

Also, here is a website with an article about surviving Nano and practical tips.

Perhaps take a look at different idea generators? These don't work for everyone, but you might want to take a look at Seventh Sanctum. It has a ton of generators as well as a lot of links to others.

Right here in the forums is the Plot Doctoring forum. There are always threads in there about plots to adopt (as well as characters, first lines, and so on), dares and other things. Last year one of the "Adopt a First Line" almost inspired a story. Before I stomped the poor little plot bunny.

Watch out for the plot bunnies. Once you have one they tend to multiply and take over your life. ;)

Welcome aboard!

Should make for a funny book, although I haven't read any Christopher Paolini. But, with the year we've all been through, we need some amusement and laughter!

Still poking around on which idea to go with? Which one of them fires you up the most on a personal level?

Being my first attempt at this, I'm not really sure what I'm doing. I did read the "No Plot, No Problem" book last weekend and that's what convinced me to "just do it," (props to Nike). I've also picked up a copy of some kind of Book in 30-days guide, that I've thumbed through for some ideas on how to manage time and "regular life" chores etc. while this project is under way.

Back to the point:
The story that's been running around in my head is fantasy genre set in mythic Egypt. I've actually been tossing ideas around and doing some research, and basically doing anything other than actually writing the story - so hopefully this will give me my much needed deadline in order to get some kind of draft out on paper! I'm excited to see how it all unfolds.

"No Plot? No Problem!" is a great book to read in preperation for Nano. I loved the humor in it. Nice to hear it spurred you to action and you found our little group!

You might also want to download Zette's free ebook NaNo for the New and the Insane, as that also has a lot of practical advice.

Sounds like you've been getting in some good planning. Yay! Every writer is different, but for me the planning helps me finish the project. Yes, I'm a big outliner, too. Yet I'm still excited at how the story will tell itself, as it always changes WHILE the store is being written. Mythic Egypt has a lot of ideas and smaller stories to really liven up a book. You should have plenty of material to work with!
