This is my first Nano and I'm scared to death. Anyone else in the area planning to do this too?

Pasadena here, for my third year~ Apparently NaNo and schoolwork together haven't taken up enough of my time in the past two years for me to learn better. :P

Hey there!
We're super-excited to have you all, and it's bound to be a fun and exciting November. :) I know it's sometimes scary the first go-round, but trust me, there's nothing to be scared of! You'll soon learn that it's more invigorating and exciting than scary, and we're all in this together.
By the way, I'm opening a thread called "Travelling Write-ins" in which we, your MLs, will be travelling around to different regions to host write-ins. We would love to have your input on where you want a write in hosted. :)

Thanks for your reply. I would love to see a write-in anywhere in Pasadena which I believe is a central enough location for us SGV folk. Don't know of a specific location though. Was there a write-in here last year? Sorry for my ignorance. I think a write-in is a great idea and would be happy to participate or maybe help set one up.

For the last two years, there were write-ins on Sunday morning to mid-afternoon at Vroman's Pasadena in their Atrium building next door in one of their rooms. Vroman's has a coffee bar even. As far as I know, they were very gracious and several consistent writers went. I missed because of church, but several went. The Atrium is available just by coordinating with the Vroman's staff. Just FYI.

First of all, welcome to your first nano and let me warn you it IS addicting. This will be my 6th Nano and as usual I am looking forward to it.
Second of all, don't be scared -- there is a lot of support and fun folks in the LA group (as well as Nano all around).
I live in Baldwin Park and we have a group of about 4-5 of us that have been meeting pretty regularly on Saturdays for the last year after meeting at a Nano writeout. We meet at the Panera in Pasadena.
My one warning for you though is watch out for the forums -- they will suck away your time! It will be enjoyable of course, but the time will be gone.
Have fun with it and it will be a pretty good bet that you will be back again next year!

I'm from West Covina and this my first NaNo too! I do hope there will be a write-in nearby so we can all meet. :)

I'm in Pasadena, too, and also a newbie. And I would love to do a write-in! I am really excited and really, really nervous about this.

Howdy, I'm also a Pasadena resident. I haven't ever participated in Nanowrimo, so I'm equally as clueless about how it all works. I think that's probably half the fun!

San Dimas resident here - not too far from Pasadena. Third try at nano, and I'm gonna do this thing if it kills me. Some local write-ins would be pretty cool. :)

I've been doing this since 2002 ~ on and off, mostly on and I am in the Pasadena area. I went to Vromans a couple of years ago for the write-in and I was the only one writing by hand! =D It was intimidating but kind of cool. Anyway, no worries, newbies, NaNo is a great self-imposed project to take on and if you set yourself up with a steady writing head (determination, confidence & positive thinking) you can accomplish it. :)

I'm from Altadena. I've done some smaller WriMos before (never NaNo, as November has never been a good month for writing for me), but I've still never gone to a write-in. I really want to go to one this year though, now that I (hopefully) have some time in November.

Hey I'm in Covina. This is my first NaNo, but I have a friend who did it last year and whose book (No plot, no problem) I stole a few years ago. So I figure, I have the book-- why not?

I am a NaNo Virgin too, and loving the way the excitement is building. I'll be taking some index cards camping with me this weekend in the Joshua Tree area to get a sense of the structure I have in mind for a long percolating novel idea, preparing to hit the keyboard running on the first! I am orginally from New England, and I think November is the perfect time to slam out a first draft--the air is getting crisp, we're back inside, schools are back in session so the other egg heads are also putting their thinking caps on, and we can forge right in, "harvesting" the fertile ideas that have been growing ripe in us for a while! And then we have the whole Winter for luxurious rewrites... I am based in the Miracle Mile area and look forward to the write-ins. Hope that some weeknight write-ins spring up too, since I go camping most weekends. Cheers to all of us for jumping in for this adventure!

Hey SGV/Pasadena Writers :)
If there are any established write-in days/times, don't forget to post those on "The Grand Write-In Thread" :)
I would love for tons of people to come out and write together.

I would love to organize a write-in in Sierra Madre, CA. I know it's a bit out of the way, but I'm a nervous driver. Failing that, how about the Duarte/Monrovia/Arcadia/Pasadena area?

I'm posting a PASADENA Write-in for Saturday morning, 9am - noon at Panera Bakery on Foothill (next to Islands) near the Madre exit off the 210. Is that close enough to Sierra Madre for you?
Can you make it?

Hi Scott,
I got us Vroman's, but not until the last three Saturdays of the month. However I'm posting a PASADENA write-in at Panera Bakery on Foothill (Madre exit off 210) for Saturday (tomorrow) morning from 9am to noon.
Hope you can make it!

Hi Sara,
I'm going to try to make it to your write-in this Saturday. I've taken a four year hiatus from NaNoWriMo, but it seems that I've once again been tempted by it's Siren song.
Cheers,
Erik
