Over the last couple of weeks, I've tried my hand at recruiting my friends (and even my mother) to join me for my first NaNoWriMo attempt, and have been depressingly unsuccessful. And so, I thought I'd come here. I'm an 18 year old senior in the Beaverton School District, and am looking to meet some people in my general area and age group (I'm thinking 15-21 would be my comfort zone, since I'm about right in the middle there) to keep in touch with in November. Whether that means sticking to the NaNoWriMo forums, creating a Facebook group, or even getting together for write ins and coffees if we click enough to want to meet up, we can figure out later.
For now, I thought I'd just make a quick post to say 'sup, and see whether there was anyone located near me who wanted some fellow writers to make sure they don't OD on caffeine and rip their hair out over the course of November.
So drop me a line (:

Teen here! 16 to be exact.
I'm Marika, and it's also my first nano...and I also tried to involve friends unsuccessfully. I'm in Portland at Cleveland high school.
----------I think making a facebook group = win.

Sweet, so I'm not completely alone here in the Rose City (:
it's nice to meet you. I'll hop on getting a Facebook group started asap, and post the link here.

Hi! I'm Lani, 16. This is my third nano. Facebook group sounds perfect, I'll join once it's up!

I'm Alice and I go to Grant. I'm not on facebook, but I'd love to do write ins and stuff. (I have a bunch of favorite cafes to do write ins at. Crema, Chance of Rain, Travelers Cafe, this one bubble tea place on Hawthorne. :P) I have a bunch of friends who have done NaNo in the past but I don't know if they're doing it this year.

Hey! I'm in Sherwood...and I'm pretty sure that I'm the only NaNoer in my entire high school. I surveyed the kids at lunchtime, so I have a pretty good idea. I think NaNo might even get in our school newspaper...at least, I wrote an article about it. :)
I'd love to meet any fellow NaNoing teens...and how the heck we're gonna manage schoolwork, homework, extracurriculars, AND NaNo this year.

Hah, FINALLY.
I'm Allison/Alice, and I go to ACMA.
(Arts And Communications Magnet Academy)
I believe ONE other person might be doing it in my entire school, which is really depressing. I don't think half the writing program people even KNOW about it.
----------Honestly, I've already got so much homework... I'm just hoping to finish before November starts and hope it doesn't get worse from there.
But I've got an idea and characters in mind. If it's as hard as people make it sound, then good. I like a challenge.

Darn, there's another Alice. :P Nice to meet you, I don't actually think I've met someone near my age named Alice before. *shakes hands* I am SO jealous that you are at an art school. I went to daVinci in Portland and I loved it. I love Grant, as well, but it's just not the same as daVinci.

Ahhh, so great to see all the teen support, guys!
I feel you guys on the juggling school work on top of NaNo. This is really going to be some sort of self inflicted torture, but in a beautiful way. November is a crazy month -- college apps, the school play, newspaper, school work, attempting to keep friends ..
Which is why I want to make friends who are doing NaNo (: Two birds, one stone, y'know?
Anyway, I'm going to get that facebook group up soon.
Any ideas for names? I was going to do something generic like Teen WriMos of Portland, or something. But if anyone has some sort of spiffy name? I wouldn't be opposed to suggestions.
I'm also going through and adding you guys as writing buddies on here, so don't be creeped out

In all honesty, it's Allison, but everybody calls me Alice anyways, for one reason or another.
A pleasure to meet you as well.

And sorry, no witty titles for the Facebook group.

I'm not gonna join the facebook group (partially because I'm trying avoid posting stuff on my wall so I can give off teh illusion that I don't actually use my facebook) but can you guys keep us posted here?
Also, who wants to have a meet and greet specifically for teens? We wouldn't have to rent a place or anything. We could just meet somewhere and have coffee/pizza/a drink (except for we're minors)/whatever.

I'd definatly be in with the teen meet and greet. I'm fairly certain Allison would too. A coffee shop or small restaurant would be pretty good, though it would depend on how late they're open, how late we want to be there, and when we want to do it.

Teen meet and greet sounds like fun.
Just throwing out ideas, there's Oasis Pizza on Hawthorn and like 35th, Kettleman's on 12th, near Division.
Or we could meet at a Starbucks downtown, or something.
But, I heard something about milkshakes? I love that idea, does anyone know a good milkshake place?

Before we decide on a location, can I get a poll for where people live? I know that there are two Beaverton people, at least one Lincoln person (so that probably equals west side), at least one Cleveland person (South East) and me (who is North East). Anyone else live anywhere else?

Near MAX... Just throwing out ideas, but maybe the starbucks at pioineer square?
There are a bunch of cafes in the Hollywood area, near the MAX. (Well, not a bunch.) I'm thinking Blind Onion Pizza or Fleur De Lis or the Darwin place by the library. (I go to school in that area so I know it uber well.)
We could go to the Lloyd Center somewhere. (Also on a MAX line.)
Central Library.
Powells is near the 19 bus line, I think, and isn't TOO far from a MAX line. (Like, just walk two blocks down Burnside and then go under the Burnside Bridge to the Saturday Market place.)
The Pizzicato at PSU is either by a MAX or a street car. I don't remember which.
Those are just off the top of my head. I'm sure there are more.

Is it too late to crash the party? :D
Katherine, reporting from Valley Catholic, class of 2012. I live on the border of Beaverton and Portland. For the place count, of course.
There's a freshman doing Nano here, too; I can persuade her to come to the meet-n'-greet, I'm sure.
And, if I may suggest, Skyline Restaurant has simply divine milkshakes. But it's kind of out there; here's a link to a Google map of it.
But it would be super awesome to meet my fellow Nanoers up there. :3

Hey everyone! My name is Luna, and I'm 13. I live in the Portland area. Meet and greets would be cool (don't know good places, 'cept my good 'ol Starbucks!). I really want to hear comments (well when we actually start writing) from other people. Though, I was just thinking that I'm really kinda stupid right now because of all of my school work... *sigh* Well, drop me a line. :)

I'm Cecily and, since I know you won't say it right CESS-il-lee. yeah. umm. I live in Gresham, I go to Barlow, but also CAL, if you know what that is. I'm 16, I'm a junior. And....I'd love to go to some kind of meet and greet thing somewhere that's not too far away.. See, this kind of thing probably wouldn't be possible unless I had a car (which I don't) so...the closer, the better... But the Facebook thing does sound like a good plan. I'm totally on there, so...somebody look me up! XD

Well I know for us ACMA and other Beaverton people the whole Cedar Mill area would be easy, but I'm not sure about the rest of you guys. I'm not sure how close it is to any public transit, but it at the very least would be a nice place to hang out with some variety in food and things to do while waiting for everyone else to show or waiting for a ride.
Where ever we choose people should remember to bring some money, or someone with access to some. While this seems pretty obvious I've forgotten money for things like this before and you end up owing people money or just very hungry, so I bring it up none the less (and watch me show up without any as always).

I'm gonna vote that we do it on Friday Afternoon, sometime after school, somewhere either in NE or accessible by public transit.

Well, public transit for people who don't have any other way of getting there. Preferably, we would be in a very central location, that is close to everyone but that isn't possible since we have people in Clakamas and people in Beaverton, which are kind of faraway from each other, so instead we will have to meet somewhere near a ton of public transit. Just because it's public transit accessible doesn't mean you have to bus there. :)
What does everyone think of meeting at the Central Library? It's downtown and it's accessible by about a billion different public transits. We probably don't have to reserve a meeting room since we're not EXACTLY having organized stuff. We're just meeting and greeting.
