Is anyone interested in doing a write in at midnight somewhere in the HEB area? If so let me know and we can figure out where to do it depending on how many people are interested.

I would be. We did one last year down near Eastchase... or Eastbrook... somewhere down in the skinny part of east Fort Worth and it was a good time. There were prize drawings for the word war winners once an hour or so. And candy to fuel that sugar-rush induced writing frenzy.. I think we finally knocked if off about sunrise.

I'm trying hard to find a bigger location to host us than my apartment this year. If they can give me a working gate code, I might look at the party room that they rent out, if it's not too expensive. If anyone has location ideas, please let me know so I can check them out!

yeah.. that was a bit of a pain last year... lol
I'm trying to think if I know of any kind of a rent-able room or conference center (anywhere we can bring outside food into) around North East Mall / 183 / 121 that would let us come in at 10 pm and leave after sun up. Something near an IHop/Waffle House would be good. :D

Okay, I just got off the phone with my apartment office. She said she loaded my number into the gate (I'll test it when I get home), and she told me that the club room will hold about 20 people. She also said that we would need to bring our own chairs. I'll scout it out as a possible location, but I'm thinking we might want to look elsewhere.
I drive right by the Northeast mall area on my way home from work. I'll check it out and see what's there. I don't remember seeing any kind of 24 hour establishments there, but I haven't explored it very thoroughly.

What about doing a write in AT some 24/7 place like IHOP or Dennys? That's what we did back in Tucson and it worked pretty well. Given we had to call ahead to make sure they had enough space, but they had this whole back room set aside for us, it was great.
Also, I'm having a couple out of town NaNo friends come in for the kickoff. If we do have a party in the HEB area, I might just bring them all along (it would be somewhere between 5-8 people including me). It would be fun.

I did some reconnoitering around the Northeast Mall area, and was only able to find a small-ish Dennys. There's an IHOP at I-30/Eastchase that would be a possible option.

Going just a little further east of the mall on 183, there's an IHOP near Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital HEB. Take the Central Dr exit, go through the light at Central and stay on the access road, it'll be on the right, next to Razoo's if I'm not mistaken.

Just wanted to let y'all know I'm lurking on this thread... I'm definitely in for the midnight write-in! There's an IHOP at 121 and Glade, which is around the corner from my house :P
I haven't checked this IHOP out, but when we had an all-nighter at an IHOP before, we ran into a power outlet shortage. The room we were given didn't even have a power outlet, so we had to run out and buy and extension cord to plug the power strips into.

I bought some extension cords for the midnight kickoff last year. We ended up not needing them, but I've still got them, and I can bring them along if we need them.

I've never been a huge fan of that IHOP. There's one on precinct line north of 183/121 and they're typically empty during the wee hours and they have an area that is rather closed in but still with room. We probably would need the powerstrips but gathering from the number of people offering extension chords and power strips plus mine then we ought to be fine.
Admittedly the construction on the way to that IHOP would be a pain though.

I haven't been to either of those IHOPs, but a fellow nano-er who meets with us in the Tuesday night critique group in Colleyville comes up Precinct line from 183 to 26 and he''s said the traffic just horrible due to the construction, so that's why I didn't mention that location.
Maybe we can get Cris to recon the IHOP at 121 and Glade for us. It's fairly new, I'm thinking it's only a year or so old.

The traffic isn't nearly as bad by 10 or 11 when we'd be doing it. But I agree with the traffic being a major problem. The 121 and glade is one I'm not familiar with.

Depending on where it is (the IHOP at 121 and Glade would be fine with me, for example), I might be able to make it.

The IHOP at 121 near Central, the one by the hospital, is RIGHT by my apt (within walking distance). If you want, I can check it out, see if they might have a back room or something we can use.
Like someone said, the 121/183 area can be bad traffic wise, but only during rush hour. The rest of the day, especially late at night when we'd be using it, we shouldn't have a problem.
And extra power strips are never a bad idea :)

The one over by central is one that I prefer not to go to personally. The one on precinct looks and feels cleaner to me for the most part. (I've had this opinion for some time things may have changed.)

Last year I started things around 9:30 - 10pm. It gave us some time to gather and socialize before getting down to business. I was thinking about having things start around the same time, unless people would like it to start earlier/later.
