I live in Oneonta, NY and I was wondering if there are any other Nanos around. I know unofficially of two members in the surrounding area and hopefully a third new Nano. Plus I'm keeping an eye out for some members from the past years in the forums.

Cobleskill as well (I teach English at the college you attend, Gnome Commander.) I tried last year to have a meetup in the Cobleskill area, but it failed miserably; if either or both of you'd be interested in meeting up in Cobleskill, let me know. My classes are M/W/F, so those days would work best for me (minus the World Series, of course.)

What are the chances either of you could pay a visit to Oneonta on a Sunday. There are two other Nano-novelists in the area around Oneonta and I would like to schedule a write in at a local coffee house one Sunday morning in November. I do not have a definite date other than the weekend of the 14th & 15th is out because I'm heavily commited both days. (yes, I will have to make up words on other days because there will be little chance to get a lot of words wrote.

Unfortunately, my weekends are really booked up for the month of November. Which means I'll be drive and brainstorming at the same to and from Connecticut. However, I could probably do a meet up on a M/W/F to do some writing in Cobleskill, though Mondays and Wednesday nights would be about 8:30-ish because of a late night class.

That doesn't matter. My favorite writing companion doesn't Nano because she doesn't have a computer. Although another mutual friend and I have been working on her. So if you want to meet sometime at the Latte Lounge let me know.
Gnome Commander,
I would come write with you in Cobeskill but I don't drive any more. Good Luck with your Nano-novel. Maybe we can talk online if any of us get stuck or even to brag (stir up those competative juices) at some time during November.
I think my biggest obstacle is one of my cats who seems to think if my arms are crossed while I am working on a writing snarl that I need a cat on me. She doesn't seem understand that cat+keyboard does not equal a productive writing session.
Good Luck,

Just checking in.
Been a WriMo since '06. Glutton for punishment, I guess.
I'm in New Berlin, which puts me about 40 minutes or so due-west.
Can't say I can commit to any write-in or Coffee house meet up, though I think it's a great idea. Me and the wife will be doing a lot of traveling especially come Thanksgiving so not sure I'll have any free cycles. Maybe a post WriMo celebration would make sense.
In any event, just think of me as part of the cheering section for now.
(call me Vince. - t1ber1usa is an alias, if you haven't figured that out already. 8-) )
Cheers!

Holy crow! Didn't think I'd find anyone from anywhere near my area, and here are people from all around me. This is neat. Although I'm kind of in the middle of Oneonta and Cobleskill, I don't drive, so I can really only get to Oneonta. Stupid question, though, as I've never done anything like this before, what would be the point of getting together? Bouncing ideas?

Theoretically the idea is to inspire each other to rack up higher word counts. It isn't that you just get together to drink coffee and talk the ultimate goal is to write. We don't have to meet it is just an idea. So far I've tried to write other places than at home and find that doesn't seem to work. I've been writing at home at night.
Good Luck to all of you,

Sorry for belated reply--I have been busy the last couple of days between classes and finalizing World Series plans (going to see Game 6 and 7 if there's a 7--unfortunately for most of you, probably, I'm a Phillies fan since that's where relatives are from/I was born/etc.)
I could make a Sunday in Oneonta provided a) it's afternoon and b) my Garmin tells me where to go; I tend to drive east so don't know my way around Oneonta all that well beyond Brooks' BBQ. I am also up for scheduling some Cobleskill meetups, say, at the library or something.
Let me know! (Go Phillies.)

Where's the Cobleskill library? I pretty much drive (or rather, ride) right to the Chinese place and back. hehe
Well, does anyone want to share what they're writing about, or do we want to keep it hush? I'd share first, but I'm torn. I started writing up a romance I've been plotting for about a year now, but then my husband mentioned that perhaps I should write a different novel that I've been plotting for five years. It was my first thought, as it'd be easier to reach 50 K with everything that needs to be explained, but I'm not as clear on the plot and where I want the story to end up. *sigh*
I've found I can pretty much write anywhere. I write at work a lot between customers. At first, a lot of people were asking why I was working so long on a shopping list, but by this point the girls I work with know that if I'm scribbling away for an extended period of time, I'm either writing or plotting.

Hey Jo! :-)
I'm just outside of Oneonta (as you know) and wouldn't mind doing a meet-up with other NaNo writers. As soon as the car gets out of the shop (oy) my schedule will become more fluid again (unless Michael sends notes on book 2 this month...). So, I'll certainly consider meet-up options. :-)
Hope everyone's writing (or thinking about writing...)!

I could definitely do a Cobleskill meet up any day of the week (might have to show up a little later due to classes). In my four years here, I've only been to Oneonta once, so I have no clue where I would be driving to....but that's what MapQuest is for, right?
----------Sunday afternoons are ideal for me. Nov 15th, I'm free after about 1pm if we want to do a meet up in the Cobleskill or Oneonta?

If you know where the parking garage is Oneonta you are most of the way there. Park on the top level. Go through the covered walkway and you should come out right on Main St. Take a right go past the Subway shop and there is usually a big sandwich board out front of the Latte Lounge. If you start to pass the Green Toad (excellent book shop) you have gone to far. The Green Toad is right next to the coffee shop as a matter of fact there is a convenient walk through between the two stores.
My book is a paranormal romance. It's very rough and of course includes more food than nookie at present. Whose heart doesn't beat faster when chocolate and baked goods are involved? So far I have beat my previous Nano totals so I'm super psyched. (Have I dated myself?)
My absolute best news is my daughter is also participating and I think she told me she broke 10,000 words. I'm so proud. She called me at Dialysis to break the news.
Good Luck All!
Shannon, I think I know roughly where you live. Ellen tried to explain that you live that a way .... But sometimes what people tell me and what gets in my head are two different things. It can lead to some nerve wracking and amusing side trips. Are you all feeling better?

I would have loved to meet and write but the weekend of the 14th and 15th I'm heavily booked. I will be writing any Nano-novel words long hand and inputting them on Monday. I'm helping out at a local low cost spay/neuter clinic on the 15th. Enjoy your visit home. How is your novel coming?

Well I was certainly surprised to see NaNo's in the Oneonta area! I live in Cherry Valley which isn't too far away and I love the idea of meeting up! I could swing meetings there and Cobleskill as well since I am just about right smack in the middle of both. Latte Lounge is sounding like an excellent meeting place next weekend, are these plans solid then?

Depending if I work or not, I might be able to make it for an our or so. Usually if I work Sundays, it's about 5-9:30. So I should be there, I'm just not sure for how long.
Do we know if the Latte Lounge has outlets? My laptop's kind of old, and needs to be plugged in to work for any length of time (ie: longer than 15 minutes).

I'm over here in Oxford. Unfortunately things are so busy for me right now that I'm lucky I'm getting a decent word count in. I probably won't be able to make any meet ups during the month.
As a side note, I also graduated at Cobleskill and enjoyed the English program they had. My instructor, I think her name was Mrs. Turner, was probably most responsible for planting the seed in my head that I could actually write and take it seriously.

Yes, there are outlets and if someone has a spare powerbar it might be a good idea to bring it. I am not sure if it is a Wireless Internet hot spot. If the GOFAR clinic ends early I will try to get a ride down there. (I will change first.) If there is an idea of how many Nanos can come, I will call and ask the owner if he can set a side some tables so everyone can sit together.

I'll know today if I can come or not, so I'll post that tonight. I'll look around my house for an extra power strip, but I'm not sure if I'll be able to find one. I think I might have one with three connections hanging around somewhere, but the question is where. My next book is going to be a children's story about the gnome who lives somewhere in my house and eats everything I'm looking for and need yesterday. ^.^

I forgot to harass my husband about this, but I should be there, as I only work till 2:30 that day. I think if I buy him food, he'll agree to bring me. Does anyone mind if he hangs around during the write-in, though? He doesn't write himself (or even read, really), but I'm always bouncing ideas off him, and he's a great sport about it. It's either that, or I'd have to hoof it up to Grand St when we're done. Don't mind doing that, as long as it isn't raining. So let me know, please and thank you!

I *might* be able to make it on the 15th. Car's better (knock on wood), fam's better (and again with the knocking on wood), it'll depend on if any weird farm stuff suddenly crops up.
IF for some reason the Latte Lounge is too crowded, I'd suggest an alternate venue of Capresso (across the street then turn right). Drinks are generally cheaper (cash only, though), the space is larger, and it's a WiFi hotspot.
Hope to get to meet some of you on the 15th... Will look for folks with laptops and a determined look on their faces... ;-)
Also, remember Penguin's annual warehouse book sale kicks off on Saturday the 14th from 1-8pm at the former Maines warehouse in Conklin.
