Hi!

In my newbie thread we started talking about online tea parties so here is the thread! I've got my kettle on so come and join. Lots of choices for you to make: mint, black raspberry, mango, earl grey. Or just bring your own :)

Ooh!

Sign me up for some mint (peppermint if you've got it!). I've had a cold lately and the mint is very soothing to the poor throat.

Did someone say tea? I'll have some mango. That sounds exciting.

Since this is an online tea party, I'll bring Salada Raspberry tea, which I haven't been able to find for a couple of years. I think it may have died to make room for all their green teas (sniff sniff).

Hello my friends !

Here I am, if it's allowed I can bring Ice Tea (if it is counted as tea).

Of course it's allowed. Even coffee drinkers are allowed I think, as long as they don't try to 'convert' anyone. And you can always bribe us with cookies (chocolate in them is a bonus)... hehe

Ever tried looking in Teaopia? They have over 100 different types of tea, so they might have it. Or perhaps it's under a different name? Their stores are only in Canada, but they ship to Canada and the US (sorry to everyone who doesn't live there). I've used many of their teas and find them exceptionally good. The website is http://www.teaopia.ca/

I'll have to bring my Funky Lemon and Coco Caramel teas, because I couldn’t chose. Don't worry, I'll share.

Thanks for the tip! They didn't seem to have it, but there are many teas there that I would like to try :)

Okay, so do you guys drink tea during writing? Or use it as a break? Just curious as to what your tea-habits are.

I love both but usually I take a break and then take my tea with me... Then I don't feel as if I'm losing time...

Oh, I am SOOO here. No one is moving me from this place. Just keep the tea coming!

I'm a fan of the more old-fashioned types; Earl Grey, Lady Grey, Prince of Wales (droooool), sometimes Russian Caravan.

I'll be joining vulture with the iced tea as while NaNo ramps up so will the southern Summer, and I love a rooibos iced tea, mixed 50:50 with a nice fruit juice like cranberry/apple. On ice. With mint leaves.

But right now it's a cup of Bushells, strong, with milk and a little sugar, at my elbow :)

Tea is life.

To answer the question whether we drink while writing or use the tea as a break, I can say: I do both.

If I write at home, nothing is to say against some tea to refresh the nerves and the head. However, when I write somewhere else ( at school for example) I drink the tea after the workload is done, again to restore and refresh my nerves and the head. And to warm me up, because it's getting cold here in Hamburg lately.

Tea is life. You're totally right !

greetings from germany,

TEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEA! *jumps into thread with a fresh cuppa*

I'm with thorhammer on the Russian Caravan. Love that stuff!!! Assam is good stuff too! And of course the loveable 'usual' regular tea wins my heart over any day.

*makes cake for all*

Oh that's it. I need a cup now. I just got to work and I should be working . . . instead I'm browsing here and over at Aeclectic Tarot forums, and I need a cup of tea to . . . to . . . well, to fortify me. Against the day, you know.

To answer the question, it depends on my mood. Sometimes I grab a cup before beginning to write (usually for a longer session), but for shorter sessions, I usually don't. Tea also makes a good reward after I've reached my word count for the day. Then I grab the tea and usually write more.

For me, it all depends on if I feel like a cup of tea or not xD It's not really connected to my writing in any habitual way, but I do tend to crave it if I'm feeling stressed or down.

So how are you all doing on planning? Do you guys HAVE plans? Do you know what you want to be writing?

Me, I have only the vaguest hint of an idea, and it probably sucks xD

Actually, yes I do have an idea, but I fear I won't get over 10k with this idea, so...well...I'll have to improvise and add descriptions, dialogues, stylistic devices and so on to fill in another 40k words...

Even if I don't manage to get 50k words, at least I did participate and wrote more than I ever have written before.

Hey everyone!

I'm an Earl Grey girl all the way, what ever teas I try out I always go back. I like anything spicy though, with cinnamon and cloves in it, if I dare to stray.

Hm, I use the tea making process as the break from writing (process involving putting the kettle on, talking to the cat like a crazy lady, preparing the cup and pouring the water, cuddle with cat and give cat a treat, decide to put honey in the tea, search fridge for chocolate and find none, spill a bit of the tea on the floor, curse, and then get back to my computer).

That first sip of hot tea makes me all warm and happy inside and then I can start typing again. Then I forget about the tea and have to drink it cold 20 minutes later.

This year I ordered the Nanowrimo Travel Cup to help me with this issue ;) It's not just for traveling. It's for scatter brains like me as well.

I completely agree with you jenniepennie on the forgetting about your tea. And then it's not cold but like room temperature and that's disgusting. I really hate it when that happens. I need a NaNo mug too...

I've been drinking a lot of tea for the past days as I have an inflammation of my vocal chords :(

Vulture: I'm sure you'll figure it out, and as you say, even if you "only" write 20.000 words that's still quite an accomplishment and you'll hopefully have a finished story that you can do something with, or just have in your computer as a constant reminder that you can finish something! ^^

*gasp* It's been - what? - two days? How has everyone not had tea for two days??? LOL

It's been the weekend, that's how :) Did everyone have a nice weekend? It's Monday morning here, and I'm putting off going to work. I am determined to Get Stuff Done today, despite my total lack of motivation for anything work related.

It's so hard to care when you're leaving in two weeks.

Good morning!

(hehe, Thorhammer, your morning starts on my sunday afternoon, my day at work just started)

I did not have time for tea on Saturday but made up for it on Sunday by drinking at least 1 and a half litre. Had a great and geeky weekend, tried to rest up before next sunday when all the Crazy starts :)

Vulture: Even writing 10 or 20 k is still a great thing, it's more than I've written all year :) And who knows what'll happen!

Lillith: I hope you feel better soon!

Thorhammer: I did have tea every day. Aren't you proud of me? ;)

Jenniepennie: I'm feeling much better, thanks. I think I'll just have to take it slow with my voice so as not to put too much work/pressure on it.

To you all: OMG! I just had a plotbunny yesterday during a Väsen concert and it's not leaving me alone. But I can't figure out names or anything and gah!!!! My plan for my historical novel was just coming along beautifully and now this idea won't leave me alone. Btw, how awesome is "58 Polska's" or "How to woo a girl in 58 Polska's" for a title?

Yes, you have to take care of your voice (and drink lot's of tea with honey) so that you'll have a voice in november, for all that crazy rambling one needs to do when getting stuck or having a great idea!

OMG plot bunny!

Have tea to settle nerves, don't scare the plot bunny away!

And I really like "How to woo a girl in 58 Polska's", it's awesome!

No doubt I'm missing the point, but what's a Polska? I know what a Polski is, and what a Polka . . . it's the hybrid I'm unfamiliar with :D

Yep, take it easy on that voice. It's like your back. You've only got one! Will vegie soup help? I made so much of it on Saturday that I'll literally be having it two meals a day for a week!

Jenniepennie: I really like it too. but I can still have both in my head. I think the short version is better if I would decide to make it more serious whereas the latter would probably be pure chicklit :)

Torhammer: a polska is a swedish dance, it's also the name for music on which you can dance a polska. It's Swedish folk music.

Thanks for the support dears. I'm still undecided as to which one I'll do for Nano but hopefully my muse'll take care of that.

Congrats on the plot bunny!!! A tea-worthy thing I am sure ^-^ ...omg now I want to go and buy a bunny-looking toy to call 'THE PLOT BUNNY'...that'd be a good totem...though if block set in, the bunny and I couldn't have a civilised tea party anymore.

Kettle broke the other day! I was mortified. But we have a new shiny one for the stove, and it vaguely whistles.

*notes down the definition of 'polska'* word of the day methinks!

Can I ask- does everyone here write chronologically but with a plot in mind, or does anyone write little sections at a time and build on them seperately until they converge? I have trouble writing start to finish, and end up jumping hither and thither.

Oh dear, kettle breaking is serious dramatic event this close to November! It's awesome that the new one whistles, just think about the possibilities! (instead of setting egg-timer, put on kettle and then type like a mad hatter until it whistles. Or train one-self like one of Pavlovs dogs... kettle whistles and instantly you start to type).

I want a white plot bunny too. Hm.

About chonologicality (erm)... I think about the story chronologically, and I always try to make a good "start", an opening scene. This works 50% of the time, with a splendid opening or I just get stuck and can't even type "It was a dark and stormy night".

It frustrates me, since I have ideas about stuff coming up later in the story that I want to get to.

I've been trying to train myself to let go and write whatever scene I want to write, hither and thither :) But it's hard. This years nano is the big test! (Maybe I need a kettle that whistles...)

Yay for the new kettle! Whistling is brilliant.

It is a rather brilliant word, isn't it? And it's so much fun to say (and even cuter when a Swedish person says it).
Oh and if you want a good definition you can wiki it, that might be more in depth than my quick explanation... :)

And I've decided to go with the 85 Polska's (or Polskor in Swedish... but that doesn't sound so good does it?) for Nano if I can figure out how to plan it. If I can get through the first four steps of snowflake for it then I'll do it. I'm terribly excited though :)

Yes, it is "polskor" in plural in Swedish. But polskas do sound cuter!

Oooh, the Snowflake method. I have never tried it. *hits google at once*

Maybe I can just be like: it's in English so I'll call it polska's :) Artistic license and stuff... hehe And the guys from Väsen called them polska's all the time (their bindtexts were in English so...) so if the masters say it I can too ;)

I hadn't noticed before that you're from Sweden, cool! Where in Stockholm do you live? I've only visited Stockholm for a weekend but I did spend three months in Gävle (and drank LOTS of tea to keep warm, all taht snow!)
