November is only two weeks away, so it's probably about time we get our kick-off planned.

In previous years, we've had a big party on the evening of the 31st, and hung out until midnight, at which point we all started writing furiously. Or at least, that was the plan. What usually happened was we got out our writing stuff at midnight, then got tired and went home.

This year, I think I'd like to split it up: a party Friday evening, and a write-in Saturday night. I'm thinking 6pm-9pm for the party, at a restaurant with good (and reasonably-priced) food. The write-in will start just before midnight (probably around 11pm) and run for however long we can keep going.

I haven't decided where to do this yet, so please chime in with some location suggestions!

I'm lobbying heavily for downtown. I know that you guys will graciously give rides to us carless folks if we go somewhere else, but a downtown location makes that unnecessary.

How do people feel about the Berg for the kickoff? Is that too college-y? The foods pretty cheap, good and if I recall, I'm pretty sure you can reserve that little room off to the right for free. (It'd probably be too loud for any actual writing, but if we're giving up all pretenses of that for the kickoff, I think it'd be great.)

That's my two cents.

Y'know, I'm prolly gonna pass on this myself.

I know for certain that I'd be the oldest one there, and I'm sure you'll all of you stay up past my bedtime. :-)

Sounds like fun, though...

You're actually unlikely to be the oldest person there this year. And not forcing people to stay up past their bedtimes was kind of the point of separating the kick-off party from the midnight write-in.

I'm planning on attending the kick off party, assuming no one will object to strongly to a St Louis refugee crashing the party :P

and btw, Radio, I just turned 45 as well, so you won't be the oldest one there :)

The Berg isn't a bad idea. It's right behind where I work, as a matter of fact...I could see about the room, if you'd like.

I don't require a special table for my age group, just a place to park my walker ;)

Btw, I thin there are more folks in our age range novelling this year than you might expect. I know of at least one other in the "has a tad more life experience to write about" category lol. To the younger crowd, please do not take that as a dig, just an old fart trying to feel better about being middle aged!

At least one ...

Is the write-in going to be at Country Kitchen this year? I showed up around 3 a.m. last year (had to be at work by 7, so I slept first) and all you diligent souls had already achieved your word count and gone. This year I'll be there on time.

I am completely open to wherever people want to have the Friday party. I know there are a lot of good places to eat downtown (I kinda like the Fish Shack place b/c there aren't that many fish places *in* town, but that has nothing to do with the kick off party.) For the write in though I'd be more inclined for Country Kitchen or IHOP or someplace that is open 24 hours.

But that's just my two cents,
Lilah

The midnight write-in is officially scheduled for 11:00pm on October 31st, and will be at Country Kitchen. I'll give them a call tomorrow to reserve their back room.

I don't have a problem with the Berg. Shakespeare's and Noodles & Co. were suggested in person earlier this evening, though I'm not certain that either allow reservations. Other reservable restaurants in the downtown area that I can think of include Addison's, Boone Tavern, and the Pasta Factory. And remember, we can provide rides to non-downtown locations.

I'll stop back by this thread over the weekend and try to reserve whatever looks like the most popular choice.

I will throw a vote in for Addison's, because their nachos bianco are about the best thing ever. (The Berg and Boone Tavern also sound good, though.)

Sorry, I've just had to wrestle myself away from starting early, like, 3 times today. :D

Yay, NaNo! I'll be at the kick-off party and the Midnight Write-In.

Is anyone else planning on being in costume for the write-in, or is it just me?

I have no costume, so no costuming shenanigans for me :-(.

I'll be at both too, though.

I'll be at the Berg tonight, in costume as an undercover cop. Oddly enough, it's the same costume from the year I dressed as an alien inhabiting a human body!
