That's right! We finally had some things going our way and there's going to be a midnight write-in!

In years past, this party took place at the Fireside Cafe. Given new management of that location, and what sounds like a rockin' Halloween party, that isn't going to work this year.

This year, the midnight free-for-all is going to take place at the Shari's out at

1832 NE 122nd Ave
Portland, OR 97230

They are very excited to have us there and have lots of space and yummy pie to keep us going until the wee hours of the morning on November 1st. One of the benefits of this location will be easy access by MAX and lots of parking (in comparison to SE Grind/Fireside Cafe).

The party will be hosted by NightSilver.

When will this party start? Clearly the writing starts at midnight, but are there going to be people there before then? If so, how early?

Is this going to be the first get together?

Going to be a tough one and still get up for work at 0600 on Sunday morning. Oh well.

I was looking at the calendar - and it looks like the Midnite Write-In starts at 10:30.

Darn, I really wanted to come to this! Unfortunately, I'm Trick-or-Treating with my best friend, then going home, and trying to get some sleep, because I have an Irish Dance competition in the morning. I'm really hating this feis, because I was going to Cantor the Litergy of the Saints that morning of church, but since I'll be dancing *fades of into silence*. (I wonder if I can do something to prevent me from dancing, but not TOT-ing...? I'm notorious for injuring myself. I walked across my bedroom floor this summer, and dislocated my knee.)

Ummm... Guys? I hate to break it to you all, but it's not THAT accessible by bus or train. Actually, it isn't at all. The MAX doesn't stop really close by (other side of freeway by IKEA is closest), and the only bus that runs along Airport Way is the 87 and it doesn't run on weekends. It only runs roughly commuter times M-F.

This would be a huge problem for those of us on transit. Even more so for those of us who're on crutches *ahem*.

Anywhere else?

I hate bursting bubbles, but I'm hypersensitive to the transit possibilities because I'm on crutches.

Oh mygoodness! Thanks for pointing that out! I had thought that since it was "Airport Way" at least buses would go to it, and the max wouldn't be far away either. This is the trouble I get for ASSUMING!

I am working on looking at other options! But once again, thanks for the heads up Amandwolf!

Hello everybody! A new location has been chosen, and due to Amandawolf's quick and admirable intervention, we discovered and remedied this problem before it grew into UTTER PANIC!

Here is the new location!

1832 NE 122nd Ave
Portland, OR 97230

And once again, kudos to Amandawolf!

Good location. I plan to be there. What is the name of this location? Is it another Shari's? It helps me figure out where to get off the bus if I know the name of the place that I'm going to!

Yes, it's another Shari's. I checked the address with their website this morning. And I should be able to make it... I should probably request to not be scheduled the next day... although with being a more or less 'on call' notions pricing slave right now, I may not be working that Sunday anyway... I may be working this Sunday... or not. It depends on if we get the Dritz order today or tomorrow.... then I'll have plenty to price Sunday.

So, we'll see for the 1st.

I'm going to try and make it.
Busy day, with three kids and a play after trick-or-treating, but I am excited to start off with a bang this year. I've never made the launch party before.
Hope to see some familiar faces!

Hi guys,
This is probably going to look like a stupid question, but I thought I'd ask. I know it's a midnight write-in, but what exactly are the hours? Looks like it starts at 10:30pm? Does it go all the way through? To when, something like 6am? Is it come and go as you please?
Thanks,
~Eri

If you drive, you can leave anytime you want... 2 am ... 3 am.... but if you're on public transit like some of us, you either leave before the last bus/train goes by, or you stay until the buses and trains start running again... which is quite likely what I'll end up doing... crutches and public transit...

In other words, there's no set ending time...

I think i'll be taking a nap during the day Saturday, so I won't have to rig something to keep my head up and eyes open at 3 am.

Artesteri,

I will be there at 10:30, because that's typically the earliest people get there. Usually, that's because people are trying to get seats nearest the outlets, (in this case, power strips!) seats that you can only get if you come early.

See if this helps!

At midnight, there are a good 20 NaNo people there to shout off the countdown.
By 2 AM, people have begun to drift away, some for the last buses of the evening, others to their cars. There's about ten or so people left a this point.
By 4, there's perhaps five people left.
By 6, the last of the people leave, whether for the Trimet that's just starting up again, or for the cars.

These numbers are purely based upon the experience of last year at the SE Grind. This year may be different, but I will be there until the morning, at 5 or so.

And there's no stupid question, except for the one you don't ask! Otherwise, you don't get an answer at all!

Woo! Sounds like fun. I'll be able to come in. That'll be tough, working Friday night and all day Saturday after a long week at school, doing this, then going back to work Sunday...but hey, we're in for a tough month, right?

Thanks so much for changing it to a more-accessible-by-transit route! I rely on it as well.

I get off at 8 PM on Saturday night, so I'll probably come home, grab my stuff, and head on out. I'll definitely be one of the first ones there and (coffee allowing) one of the last ones out.

If anyone's riding to/from Downtown I'd love a MAX buddy so I don't feel weird and alone and tired. Anyone?

Thinking I probably won't be able to go... I have a friend coming in from Corvallis, and two from Seattle, and we're planning on going to see Rocky Horror. Nothing is concrete though, so I'll keep trying!

I hate this. I'm in pain so I don't know how much of the write-in I will be able to endure, if at all. I'll have to wait and see. I have a Halloween party tonight, and then I think I'll take naps tomorrow so I can rest my poor freaked out body.

Are there corner booths at that Shari's? If so, I may claim about half of one. so I can elevate my leg and also have something soft to lean against.

We'll see.

Fall season just isn't my friend...

I am so sorry Amandawolf! It sounds like this month is going to be abit challenging for you event wise.

As for booths, I am almost certain Shari's will have them. Not sure what a "corner booth" means exactly though.

Hope this helped the tiniest bit!

I am hoping to make it to the Write-in, if I take a nap in the afternoon I should be good to go. I hope to get the chance to meet many of you. A friend was supposed to be furninshing me with a laptop (yep, I don't have one right now), so I will be doing my write-ins by hand, arrrgghh, but it will be worth it in the end when I validate all those words!

Corner booths are the ones that go all the way around, they're usually round-ish and in the corners of the space. Regular booths are the ones where the benches stop at the wall...

I woke up this morning to ... well ... it's rather TMI. I'll just leave it at the fact that something I ate last night didn't fully agree with me.

So, I'll nap at intervals, do some OryCon work, now that stuff has been fixed, and try to relax... oh yeah, and laundry... at some point. I'm not dressing up tonight... I'll be doing the PJ thing.

I swear, Fall in Portland and I don't seem to agree.

Bleh.
