So, I happen to be on rather good terms with the charming gents who operate Hub Comics in Union Square, Somerville. (go in and say hi! James is the owner and Jesse is his hired geek. They're totally rad guys and Hub is easily the best comic shop in the area! You will not regret stopping in! Just make sure to set aside a lot of time... I went in on Saturday and was there for several hours talking nerd-shop)

Hub recently hosted a 24 hour comic day event (write a 24 page comic in 24 hours) and got sponsorship from Bawls. Jesse suggested that we could probably have a NaNo event there, and they could re-obtain sponsorship.

Bloc 11 cafe is just down the street (as is The Independent, if you prefer booze-fueled writing) and there's a Market Basket a block or two away for provisions. Reportedly they can give us table and chair space and outlets, and it's a nice atmosphere.

I don't think I'd want to do an all-night event (damn you, real life! *fistshake*) but a late night event would be a ton of fun. Would anyone else be interested in something like this if I worked on getting it set up?

Yes! When I start running low on ideas, few things are better than closing my eyes and pointing at a random comic book cover.

(I'm pretty sure John Updike used the same technique).

I would be up for this (I guess it's a generation thing? We always said we're up for something?) but depending on how late--the old real life scenario. I could maybe bring my daughter who is an awesome comic book artist and wants to do that comic thing if they do it again.

I live one town over (Medford) so this is a great idea! I don't think I could do a 24-hour writing marathon if it was over the week (I'm attempting to get full-time employment) but maybe a weekend night could work. :)

I'd definitely be up for that! I haven't been spending nearly enough time at Hub, lately.

I may be in for a Union Square event. I don't live nearby, but I love it.

So, it's been suggested that we could make this a weekly event on Tuesdays, as those are particularly slow days, and they're open late because of new comics arriving.

I personally will probably go over there basically every week on Tuesday just because they're totally rad guys and I love hanging out in the shop, so having it be sanctioned that I can be there working away on my laptop is just too great to pass up.

Join me, brethren in insanity!

Extra bonus points will be awarded for everyone who adds onomatopoeic sound effects in their novels during Hub Write-Ins. :D

OOOHHH I LIKE THIS IDEA

hm at this rate I'm going to need to clone myself to have time to get to all these NaNo Boston events AND yanno do the rest of my life too. (eating? sleeping? who are they?)

luckily, if I'm in a comic book store I'm sure there will be a guide for how to do this.

I'll add this to the calendar when you guys set a time; please e-mail me (letterslight -AT- gmail.com) with the times and the street address of the location.

Cheers,

I'm up for Tuesday night Write-Ins at Hub Comics. Can you confirm that they're cool with our doing that? From when to when would these go?

Hmm. The logistics of getting there on a Tuesday are a little problematic for me, so I can't offer anything stronger than "maybe", but I might be down.

I'm totally down (I live near Inman, so it's a short jaunt by foot for me). What time to what time?

Edit: The V remake series starts the first Tuesday in November... I will likely watch the at least premier (and hope they put other eps on Hulu), but I'm happy to come by after, depending on how late you kids stay.

I'm still waiting on confirmation from the Hub guys... The big boss man initially wanted to do it on Thursdays, but I let them know that we have official write-ins on Thursday, so no one will come. ;) So we're working on peer pressuring them into Tuesdays, but who knows.

I'll keep you guys posted as things surface!
