We've seen some votes for a write-in for those of us near the JHU Barnes & Noble at 33rd and St. Paul or One World Cafe on University Parkway. I'm willing to host if there are a few of us able to make it.
Thursday nights or weekends seem to be good -- thoughts? Post here if you're interested in coming to write-ins at either of these locations! I'm excited to meet some NaNo friends in the neighborhood =D

I've been trying to set up a write-in in Towson, but it doesn't seem to be working out. I'm at NDM and have been to the JHU Barnes&Noble many times. I'd love to meet with some writers there! Never been to the One World Cafe.

Awesome! I think there are potentially two others interested in meeting at the JHU B&N. Would Thursday evenings work well for you?

Thursday evenings at either place would quite likely work for my roommate and I.

So let's say B&N, every Thursdays, 7-9:30p.m.? I posted this info on the write-in thread as well. See you there!

What about One world cafe?
Because:
1. They serve wine
2. They have better internet for those who don't go to JHU
3. They're vegetarian

I can do either one, since I use an Alphasmart and I don't drink. I can definitely make the B&N one.

Is wifi an issue at Barnes & Noble? I've never tried to connect there. I will definitely attend One World but I'm not as comfortable hosting it (as much as I am in favor of vegetarian food and a non-JH U atmosphere).
I had an awkward experience with a group there when several of us from the office went for drinks and nachos. The wait staff seemed really put off that we were taking up a table and not ordering more food, to the point where I sort of couldn't wait to leave. I'm not planning on ordering an entree at every write-in, so I'm a little hesitant to go back with a group.
phillipcarey, would you be willing to contact the owner(s) at One World and ask if they'd mind having us? If you can work it out with them for 7-9:30 on Thursdays I can move the write-ins over there or we can do halfsies :)
Until then, let's still plan on B&N so we have a backup.

Sure, I can ask them today. I am a regular and I don't think it should be a problem!

I haven't been to the BN enough to be dead-sure of this, but I believe there are more tables available at One World. And it's an indy restaurant/coffee shop, so +1 for local.
Parking may also be ever so slightly easier at One World if you're not on foot.

I work right down the street from One World Cafe and think it would be an awesome little place to have a write-in. Do they have free wi-fi?

Yes they do!

Such enthusiasm! Looks like One World takes it here -- any luck asking the owner if we're good for our Thursday night time?

Currently your write-in is still showing for B&N. If you plan to make changes, don't forget to post them to the Write-In thread.
You could also alternate locals - do a couple write-ins at one, and a couple at another. Unless that is too much to remember!
Also, the Towson write-in is confirmed for Sat afternoons, 2-5pm, at Ukazoo.

I'll make sure to do that. I just want to make sure the owners are okay with our group before making it official.

I replied in the other larger thread before reading all the way through (sorry), so now I'm here to reiterate a vote for One World. Is there an update on what the management has to say about us being there? Is there enough support for 2 days a week in Charles Village (or maybe an extra day for the first week as a kick off)? This is my first time doing this and I have a feeling a strong start will be key to my "winning."
Thanks everyone,
Tracie

Well, I have a few more blocks to walk (6), but that's okay; I need the exercise. I guess I'll see you all next Thursday at One World Cafe then. Hopefully I can bring along a newbie I found recently.

Can we stick to the original time of 7:00-9:30? That works well for me. I'll post the location change to the write-in thread.
Will we be gathering in the front or the back area? I can print some of those fun little signs so everyone can find the table.

The front is more of a coffee shop while the back is a restaurant. Front suits me more. See you on Thursday!

I'll stop by this Thursday, but probably won't make it there until after 8pm.

so did anybody check with the Cafe ownership to see if we are allowed to congregate there without buying food? They are known for their douchey attitudes, and not buying food would probably incite a vegetable throwing riot...

I talked to them. They were not super excited but as long as we take a coffee or two I don't think they should have a problem.

Sweet.
By the way, does anyone have a power strip they can bring along? All ours might be in use right now (it's what happens in an old house with precious few outlets) but I think it'd be a good idea to have one on hand for folks without mega battery power :)

I'll definitely buy something. At the very least, a coffee.
How late are you planning to stay? I have something planned for earlier in the evening, but was going to stop by on my way home.

My battery on my laptop doesn't work at all, so I'd definitely need it to be plugged in. I'm just scared of getting lost because it's 30 minutes away and...I'm not good with directions!

I'm going to try to stick it out until 9:30. Perfectionism has gotten in the way of progress for me, so I a good old writing marathon could be just the thing.
And Malissa -- One World is right across the street from JHU's lacrosse field on University Parkway, if that helps.

Can we change the Thursday evening write-in to the Barnes & Noble? There were three of us at One World last night, and we discussed going to B&N next week. This is because One World was too loud, kind of dark, and doesn't have that much table space. People who don't want to buy a meal will probably feel uncomfortable there.

I got there later than expected and missed you. The bartender told me there was a writing group there, but y'all had already left.
Sorry!
Oh, and I'm okay with making the move to B&N if you feel it's more conducive to writing.

Hello! I was there, had to leave and came back and stayed until 9:30. Missed all y'all. Sorry! I'd be okay with moving in to Barnes and Noble too. One World is a li'l cramped, dark and loud. HTH! --Aileen
