With 10 days to Nano and no conceivable plot in sight, I figured this thread was more than overdue. Plus, we've all turned whinging into an art form really.

WHY WHY WHY DO I NOT HAVE A PLOT? WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME THIS YEAR?! I JUST KNOW THAT I'M GOING TO END UP IRRITATED AT MY CHARACTERS AND WASTING TIME ON EXPOSITION AND THEN 30 NOVEMBER WILL ROLL AROUND AND I'M STILL STUCK ON WHAT COLOUR THE HERO'S TIGHTS SPANDEX PANTS ARE GONNA BEEEEEEE.

AND WHY IS MY HERO WEARING TIGHTS ANYWAAAAAAAY?

*rolls on floor*

Aha! WELL! I don't know about your hero, but the hero of our collaborative Bubble G.U.M. novel wears pink tights on the bottom and lime green tights on top and he wears them as part of his military uniform.

Yes, that's a bit of a spoiler but there are lots of other things to be revealed at the TGIO when the book is launched.

[edit] And thanks for starting this thread. It's usually me doing the whinging.

For some weird reason, I don't plan what I write. Not in exams, not ever. I just love sitting there staring at the topic and everything just comes out in this rush like some waterfall. (: Don't worry about not having a plot, because some people (don't know 'bout you though) work better under pressure haha.

You hear the sound of a big baby crying and that's me!! Someone postponed the big posh, dinner, gala, ball thing with long frocks and dickie bows that was supposed to take place two days after my birthday when my two sisters will be in Singapore and now they'll have left before it happens because it's been moved back two weeks and I got a lovely dress in Debenhams when I was in Leeds and now they won't see it ... okay, they will, but it won't be the same with all three of us getting dressed up with our nails and hair done and our photo taken for our Mummy & Daddy and I just want to cry!!

*sigh*

I hate it that a respiratory tract infection manifests almost exactly like a cold. Grr. To think I took all that Panadol for nothing. /grumble

Having just returned from nursing my daughter through the H1N1 virus, I have to ask if you've had your swab done to make sure it isn't the dreaded 'flu. Although, having said that, there was no dribbling nose and yucky stuff coming up with the cough, just the cough and general dreadfulness of aches, pains and high temperature (eventually -- which I won't go into because that would be an enormous whinge on the British National Health Service's ridiculous 'Swine 'flu' handling...)

Anyway, get well before Saturday otherwise you might find yourself getting spritzed with various antisceptic cleansers.

Amusingly, there's something in the goodie bag that might help with that.

If it's disinfectant does it work on minds? I accidentally caught thirty seconds of Riz Low's speech and now have to cough gingerly for fear of infecting someone nearby.

There is no reason why you & your sisters can't get dressed up & go for a posh dinner & have your night out without all that organisation - even if it's just for yourselves - it will be fun.
i hope u get to go out & have fun with your sisters.

Adult responsibilities, they suck.

Need sleep. Need rest. Need people to get out of my face so that I can do the first two in peace.

Also, don't want to be at work.

Image change is like REBRANDING. Omgosh.

I'm just happy I didn't jump in and published individually on Raven Azure. Or it'll mean more blahs for me.

P/S - Rebranding. I'm not gonna be Raven Azure anymore. Even though NaNoWriMo's username can't be changed. BLAHHH.

>Image change is like REBRANDING. Omgosh.

Some people go to great efforts to keep the old "brand", though.

When I was in the UK, a crisp company was undergoing an image change of sorts, in that they were rolling out a new layout on their packaging.

They took great pains to assure everyone that the brand had not changed, with a series of adverts and slogans. The catchphrase?

"Same s***t, different package"

A similar one but with more "G" rated language was the "Darkie"/ "Darlie" change. (amusingly, in Chinese, it's still "Black Man toothpaste")

Really? It stills says that in Chinese? I remember the first time I saw Darkie toothpaste as it then was back in 1981 and I nearly fainted with the shock. Interesting the way the face has become lighter as well as the name change.

Okay, that wasn't a whinge, but it took my mind off things.

Yes - rebranding - exactly what i feel like doing this year ... but how much is lost in rebranding, how much is actually changed - the fact that people still remember Darling as Darkie toothpaste ...
i actually liked the oxymoron of using Darkie to get white teeth ...

a rose by any other name smells just as sweet

ok enough blabbling...

PS: i wanted to change my Nano username too but it can't be done - sigh! Nothing to do with image - more to do with privacy.

>Why, pointless source skills essay, why? Why do you hate me so?

My highest scoring essay at NIE involved me writing the equivalent of the Sokal Hoax with my tongue planted firmly in my cheek.

I think I impressed them by using the phrase "we must modify the Renzulli paradigm" and illustrating that aforesaid change with bar charts showing how the two protagonists of Chariots of Fire achieved their level of ability that is a "socially constructed and arbitrary definition of 'genius'", and how any indvidual might have achieved that level with sufficient work.

Rozen:

Yes, it really does say "Black man's Toothpaste". Apparently the black man is Michael Jackson.

Edited to add:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Darlie_toothpaste

As I said, wikipedia is our friend!

I didn't get a title for last year's nano until this year. You can always change it.

My whinge:

WHY does Wizards of the coast have to release Zendikar exactly as Nanowrimo starts? And why does Butcher have to release First Lord's Fury right in the middle of it?

It's infamy, I tell yer. They all have it in fer me.

2000 words in 24 hours. If you weren't some sort of weird mental prepping for Nano, I'd suggest you go to hell, stupid Ed Psych paper.
