I'm happy to meet the younglings, but I'd also love to buddy up with other full-time, professional writers who are Nanoing this year. Are you out there?

Hi...

I guess this topic was posted a while ago but I just found it so I thought I'd reply. I'm another full-time writer--a ghostwriter, actually, so believe it or not I write books all day for a living. Haven't ever managed to finish one under my own name, however, so hopefully this whole nano thing will help.

Anyway, good to meet you, if you're still out there!

I'm most likely going to be working on my 4th novel, which is the second book in a series. I'm nearly finished editing my 3rd book (first book of the series) and I have an agent waiting for the first 30 pages and synopsis.

The series is based in a small, ficitonal town in northern New Jersey, in the Colesville/Sussex area. In the context of the story, it's a town that's been written about in Weird NJ where weird, supernatural stuff happens regularly. Shadow people, Lake Walkers, lights in the woods, haunted houses, ghost children...that sort of thing.

The main character of the first book, Fallen Angels, is Dylan Carver, a homeless guy who may be more than human, though he doesn't believe he's anything special. He, with the help of some local folk (a nineteen year old girl who is sensitive to the dead and a 36 year old guy who lives at home and plays video games), has to stop a crazy old man from opening a gateway so that ancient gods that once ruled the Earth can come "home" and rule again.

The second book is the fallout and consequences from the first book and Dylan's search for the soul of a woman he loved, who was murdered in book 1.

So what are your plans for November?

Happy Writins!

Hi, Gary,

Well, as far as ghostwriting, I do whatever the company I work for gives me. :) My books are mostly nonfiction--business, relationship advice, political issues and lots of memoirs. I do get to write fiction occasionally, which is a nice treat. I'm actually working on a romance novel right now, which is...well, quite a different experience for me!

My Nano novel is about a sort of down-and-out woman in her thirties who has to take care of her dying mother. Through that experience she learns about all sorts of family secrets (some true and some not--I'm thinking something like the movie Big Fish) and comes to terms with why and how her life got so off course. Kind of a vague description, I know. I'll have to work on boiling it down a little. It doesn't sound as exciting as your books (which sound really interesting!) but it's a subject close to my heart, and I think it will come out better than I can describe it.

Can't believe I have to start it in two days, though!

Depends what you mean by a professional writer? I'm a professional journalist.

I've always wondered about if I could use NaNo to do something non-fiction, but that would take a lot of research beforehand to do so, I would suspect.

Hello there,
I'm also a professional writer. I have one novel published, and 4 non-fiction books, 2 more non-fic out next year. My 2nd novel simply hasn't been faring well in the real world, and my third is now with my agent, so we'll see. I'm drafting a fourth this month. I'm a Nano newbie.

My day job is writing freelance for anyone who will pay me.

Nice to meet some pros.

I am glad to be here. I am not a full-time writer, but a full-time English professor and part-time writer. I have a third draft of a novel I should be working on, but during the tsunami of the semester I can't focus. I am finding that I can do THIS though, write in short bursts without editing, etc. and I hope to have a finished 1st draft for over the Christmas break that I can work on. I love reading your posts and feel quite excited about this project.

Oh, and I am in West Milford. Anyone else nearby want to go to a diner and write some Sunday morning in November?

I hear ya! I'm 45 and have been a working journalist for 20+ years. I blog on the daily newspaper site where I'm an editor, and I also blog on open salon. Been trying to write fiction for years -- have lots of projects started -- but it's only recently I've had the time and patience to do really write on one subject at a clip. This is my first time attempting NaNoWrMo.

The problem with coming from a journo background, is writing more than 500 words at a clip is rather a challenge! I write 500, feel "done" and need a break. But my story is moving, I know my characters and I would write all day (with lots of breaks haha) if i could.

Off to work now -- late hours -- election day. woo hoo!
