Hey, guys! The one year I won this thing, it was because I went to write-ins and made friends. I slacked off last year, but I am in it to win it again this year! Because of my work schedule I work until 8 most nights, but I am off every Wednesday and can be somewhere any time then, and somewhere by 6 at the latest on Sundays. I would love to form a write-in group for Wednesday and/or Sunday nights in the Carrollton/Farmers Branch area.

As for places, I know there's an IHOP on Belt Line just east of Marsh. There's also a coffee shop called Saxby's which we've used previously and rocks, but I think it closes at 9. It's on Midway near LBJ. I'm open to suggestions on places and on times. I'm looking forward to diving in head first again and meeting some amazing people.

If I can get away from home life I should be able to attend a few write-ins. Last year I was a stressed out recluse. I want to avoid that this year - at least the recluse part!

The IHoP on Belt Line would be ideal for me and those days are perfect. I work 8-5 during the week, so Wednesdays I'll be available to attend 6-8'ish those evenings. Sundays I have a lot more flexibility except for I'd like to be at home at a decent hour for work the next morning. ;)

Woohoo! I live in Carrollton and am so glad that there are other's that want to do meetups so that we can all help each other out on our novels. I work from 8-4 during the week, so I will be available anytime after 5:30 or so on Wednesday's, and on Sunday's I'm available all day, so it wouldn't matter to me what time we met up. Maybe we can do something this upcoming weekend (October 23-25) and meet up and get to meet each other and continue working on our outline's or whatever we're working on at the moment.

Hey Chloe! Good to see you again.

I am all about the write-ins. Wednesday nights are good; I probably won't be able to make Sundays, but I won't be offended if people get together without me ;)

The Cafe Brazil in Carrollton (Trinity Mills and Josey) is open until 11 pm and has free wi-fi. What do you think about meeting there?

I could definitely meet up at the Cafe Brazil, I'm about 5-7 minute drive from there.

Yea, more people in Carrollton. I'm free on Sundays afternoons. I get off between 6 and 6:30 on weekdays so that wouldn't be a problem. What about a couple of us meeting at Dunn's Brothers Coffee on Marsh and Beltline?

Hi, Blarg! Nice to see you again, too!

Alright! It seems like Wednesday night is a great night for people. We will go with the Cafe Brazil at Trinity Mills and Josey. Most of you guys can't get there until 6 or later, which is just perfectly fine. I will probably be getting there most weeks somewhere between 5 and 6 depending on how motivated I am to get writing. They close at 11, but everyone is more than welcome to come and go any time they please. I don't want anyone confined to certain times.

I've never been to Dunn Bros. but I've heard it's pretty loud. Will it be quiet enough for us to work or will the noise be too distracting? The layout seems like a great thing. Opinions?

Oh, and does anyone know how to add stuff to the calendar so I can go ahead and get Wednesdays on there?

To add events to the calendar, either post all the details on the forum thread (date, one-time or weekly?, start and end time, location address) and one of the MLs will add it to the calendar, or you can PM one of the MLs (we're listed at the top of the regional forum page) with the info.

If you give me the street address to Cafe Brazil (with zip, if possible, so people can Mapquest it), I'll add this to the calendar.

Thanks!

:) Criss.

Are we still planning on meeting Wednesday night at Cafe Brazil? I just noticed it was never added to the calendar. When I'm a little less sleep-deprived (it's 1:30am on day 3 and I've only just caught up to day 1's goal), then I'll PM ReinaCriss or another ML and ask them to add it if we're still a go!

It's on the calendar now!

Sorry, I think the site was having trouble sending out emails, so I missed some forum posts (like the one with Cafe Brazil's address). Thanks for following up!

Hi Chloe et. al.,

I'm a total newbie at NaNoWriMo; is this something I could attend? It sounds like all of you have been doing this a long time (I mean, winners and everything!!), and I'm afraid I might be really lost! I'm currently browsing the site and learning the rules, etc.

Thanks for any responses, and I'd love to hear from others who might be new to all of this as well.

As another newbie - write-ins are your friend! I'm trying to get to as many as possible because they're super encouraging to me, you meet nifty people and have fun. :) I'm not in this area, but thought I'd throw in my $.02

Last year was my first year doing NaNo and I stayed reclusive and solo'd it all the way through. This year, I've attended (so far) the midnight kick-off and a write-in and I'm kicking myself for not attending them last year.

Being able to meet up and write with other participants is not only encouraging, but also rewarding. You'll be surprised how much fun you have with people just like you. :)

The only year I've won, I went to write-ins. There's just something about being around people with the same goal as you. It inspires you to keep going and win. I don't know about you, but I'm a competitive person, so it also helped me keep my word count up because I wanted to have the highest word count of the people at my write-in. We would love for you to attend! Don't be intimidated by us, please! Each year is a new year, and even if we've done it before we're all starting over again with a new November.

So... I totally didn't make it to Cafe Brazil last Wednesday. Did anybody go? This thread is especially quiet. Is anybody planning on going this Wednesday?

Hello?

*knocks on screen*

Is this thing on?

I'm up for write ins closer to the beltline side of things. I have limited access to a vehicle during the day so most of the places suggested so far are out of the range of my feet.

There is a Starbucks at Beltline and Quorum on Southeast Corner with free wifi and good seating. (I go there to write a lot - It is a longish walk from my house so I can fake a trip to the gym on the way.)

I know the Barnes and Noble on Beltline and Montford is very welcoming of NaNoWriMo people in their cafe as well, I mentioned it to one of the managers and he was really excited about it..

There is a Corner Bakery in the same shopping center as the B&N on Beltline and Montford.

I am not sure about the wifi situation, but LaMadeline at Beltline and Montford has a lovely workspace too.

The flying fish out here in Addison isn't a good place to write, but it does have a fabulous selection of beer if anyone needs a break.

Hey! Sorry about getting back to you so late. Hopefully you get this before tonight. Eep. Either Barnes & Noble or Starbucks would be awesome for me. The StarBucks sounds the best. Yay free wi-fi! Most StarBucks' make you pay. Would you want to get together tonight for a write-in? I don't work and can be there any time. Again, sorry for the short notice!

Yay! People in my area finally! :) I didn't see Cafe Brazil, B&N or any of the others on the calendar. Are any of these write-ins happening?

(Ps--I generally get off work at 6:30, so I'm good to go after that!)

Since I'm not going to be able to attend the NOWD, I was planning to get up early Sunday morning (4 am - yep!) high tail up to an IHOP or Dennys and pass the time writing until noon. Can't dedicate the whole day because I do have family obligations (no kids, but my husband could fit the bill!).

wwear - The Cafe Brazil write-in is on the map. Unfortunately, no one's confirmed or denied actually doing it so I don't think anyone's been going.

Rebekah - I work until 7 on Saturday and then am going to try to make it to the NOWD. I will definitely be up for doing something next Saturday. I get off of work at 4 next Saturday and can be somewhere by 5.

LM - Holy cow, that's early! I wish you the best of luck!

I've been lazy about checking the forums until tonight (procrastinating finishing chapter one, now that I've done chapters 2-6). I'd love to attend a local write-in. I'm pretty shy, so please just promise you won't bite and I'll be willing to show up. I'll watch this thread for any further details on venue changes or venue not-changes.

Thanks! That's been my strategy to actually acheive my daily word count goals and not ignore my husband and mother-in-law for a whole month. So far I haven't always been able to get up as early, but when I do, it's really not that bad. I guess I'm just a morning person.

I very much need to write a LOT tomorrow. I'm going out tonight, so I think an early start will be out of the question for me, but I'd be happy to join a bit later with a when and where :)
