Hi all.
I am curious about what time others feel that they write their best pieces during. Personally I really enjoy writing when I am exhausted, pulling an all-nighter with friends, then sitting down at like 4 or 5 in the morning and writing makes me happy. For some reason when I am physically and mentally exhausted I feel like I have an easier time writing things out and filling in details. I also tend to have more abstract (and more interesting in my opinion) thoughts during that time period.

hmm. I have an odd schedule but I say it really comes to me when I'm about to fall a sleep, I always keep a notebook or sometimes my laptop is on and I got down what I'm thinking, or plots, or characters. Though I do write right before I go to sleep weather I want to or not.I try to at least read over stuff; the notes from the previous night. And it normally gets me writing, I've been known to write anywhere; any time. So I'd say 3 am to about 4 am is my window of really writing though.

Late at night or early in the morning seem to be the best times for me.

I always do my most interesting writing when I'm not really paying attention to what I'm writing, which is probably a bit of an odd thing. Whenever I'm not paying attention, some new little thing slips into my stories that I don't notice until I reread it quite a bit later that will tie up a loose thread in a strange and interesting way that I hadn't even noticed I'd left dangling. Which is a horrible run on sentence, I think.

Very late at night, very early in the morning, with the window by my desk open, and candles on my desk.

I like to write during late afternoon and early evening, especially when I have a time crunch I tend to do my best work. Though I find what I'm wearing actually helps me. If I'm dressed fully dressed it makes it much easier for me to forget about myself and the outside world and write.

Early afternoon, for sure. I'm full with lunch so I don't let myself get distracted with taking snack breaks (okay maybe just one). I'm not tired where I can't concentrate and my house is usually empty as everyone is at school or work so I can play my music as loud as I want and sing out of tune without anyone the wiser.

I write over lunch and in the evenings, but I have a "sweet spot" in the early afternoon and get a lot of good ideas in the shower.

I have a very erratic schedule, so I have to take what I can get when it comes to writing time. However, I will say that I think I work best during daylight hours. Even if it's a gray, rainy day, I still write my best when there is some semblance of natural light. I get tired pretty early at night (usually ready to sleep around 1030 and in bed by 11), and when I feel drained/sleepy, it's difficult for me to get much work done. I'd rather write when the sun is up.

Me too! I get some of my best thinking done in the shower! I've had multiple ideas sparked while washing my hair (ha-ha). I don't know what it is about showers...

I also love to start wrtiting in the evenings and then continue on. I find this time so inspiring and if I'm lucky I have just woken up from a quick nap. But in the real world I try to write during lunch and after I get home from work;

Inevitably, I get inspired 10-15 minutes before I'm supposed to go to sleep, end up staying up past my bedtime to get the ideas out before they disappear, and am consequently sleep-deprived and dead at work the following day.

My best writing comes out between the hours of 11pm - 4am. And when I say best, I do actually mean most interesting, because there's no way my grammar mistake riddled piece could be called my best. I guess that's what happens when you write with your eyes half closed!

The 15 minutes I have before I punch into work. I'm half asleep and there's no time to think about if it's any good or not.

Definitely late at night. I don't know why, but my mind just works differently at night. I'm all discombobulated early in the morning and I can barely pour a cup of coffee much less write a coherent sentence. I end up doing most of my writing in the afternoon, though.

Yeah... contrary to popular belief, the "I think better in the shower" thing isn't exclusive to Motel 6 showers...

I do my best writing when I'm emotionally unbalanced... i.e. depressed, irritated, hyper, angry, etc. When I have one emotion that's totally in the driver's seat, my writing can surprise even me.

However, seeing as I like being emotionally balanced more often then not, my next best writing time is - like most people - during that no man's land of not quite asleep yet not quite awake. I think this is because the line between dream and reality is still slightly blurred, so it's easier to let your brain crunch out ideas... if that makes sense.

Typically right before I go to sleep - I can usually prolong sleep for an hour, depending on the momentum I have. I also get wonderful ideas while I am (most inconveniently) in the shower. :P

Usually when I should be focusing on something else, like work or cleaning the house!

I tend to do the most dedicated writing in the evening and through early morning. My best inspirations seem to strike just before falling asleep, though... generally resulting in either forgetting the idea or frantically scribbling it down as best I can, usually meaning I wind up going to sleep even later than I already would be on most nights (well, mornings, technically).

Oh that sounds perfect! Except for the whole 'very early morning thing'. Dawn and I had a fight several years ago and we're not speakign any more. ;P My best writing tends to get done when I'm supposed to be doing something else. Taking notes, working, sleeping, etc. Empty pages don't scare me, but they don't inspire me either, so when I set time aside to write it either takes forever to get started on something I can actually work with, or I just give up entirely.

"Geez! You scared me! Where'd you come from?"

"Oh shut up."

Its usually when i get off work before i go to bed. I promise my muse is as big a night owl as i am. I might get some done during the day and on break at work but soon as iget home and park myself behind the computer at night, it mgith take a bit to get started but around midnight to 3 am i'm usually on a roll if bunny's being cooperative....
